Summary: Where did they get the script for THIS Jesus?
Review: What can I say that hasn't already been said? If you want to see a movie that bases its account of Jesus Christ on the New Testament texts ... look elsewhere.

But, if you want to see a groovy movie that purports to be about "Jesus" -- though certainly many steps removed from the person and personality one encounters in the Gospels and the other writings of the New Testament -- well, hey, no one is stopping you from watching this politically-correct and religiously-benign dog about a Jesus who doesn't know who he is or what his mission is or what he's supposed to do -- except die for "love" for some cockamamie reason. Sheesh!

If it never becomes an annual Easter or Christmas special, it won't be missed.

Major disappointment. Major...

Don't get goose-bumps because this movie purports to show the "human" side of Jesus. Hey, that's fine; after all, he was a man in every way (except without sin). But when it's done at the expense of his divine side, what you get is ... another Jesus. Not a "different" Jesus, ANOTHER Jesus. A fictional Jesus who never existed.

Summary: Great and Inspiring!
Review: I loved this movie when I saw it on CBS a few years ago, and I have since rented and watched it three times. I'm going to buy it to have in my personal video collection.

Recently I watched it with critical eyes so that I could take notes and share them with my Sunday School class while we watch it. Sure, there are parts which are not scripturally accurate, but it is a MOVIE afterall. I think that the producers had to dress it up a bit to make it interesting. However, most of the events depicted in the movie can be found in scripture. This movie is great because it adds life to the Biblical characters and really helps you to identify with them and their lives.

I cried during the trial and crucifixion...and especially as Christ gives the great command to His Disciples after His resurrection. It is a very spiritually moving movie. Love it!

Summary: The Millenium
Review: Once you sit on the arm chair and start watching
this movie. I think that it get you hooked .You
could even be from another religion but still
you would enjoy it .Jeremy could not intrept
Jesus better than he did . I think he was the best
one that ever did it like he did despite Powell in
Zefferelli `s Jesus of Nazareth . So if you are thinking
of getting this movie do , and after relax and see all that
the son of God had to go through just to save us .
I think that Rodger Young must have known what has been doing
like all his other Biblical films .

Summary: the human side of Jesus
Review: This miniseries is most affective in showing the human side of Jesus. Once you watch you find yourself wanting to read the gospel to know more about Him. Spotlighting Him growing up, being baptised by John the baptist, playing with children, picking his disciples, to his death on the cross is riveting and it holds your attention. The supporting cast is great especially Debra Messing as Mary Magdelene. I can watch this over and over again.

Summary: How Human Can God Get?
Review: Every film about Jesus that I have seen falls short in some way in portraying his unique life and mission. But I think this film does the best job of portraying the human character of Jesus. He is joyful, sensitive, fun loving, compelling, passionate and approachable. To those familiar with the Gospel accounts many of the scenes will seem rushed and many of the other characters will seem underdeveloped. There are some disappointing liberties taken with extra-biblical material, but they don't detract from the story too much. The portrayal of Jesus' relationship with Joseph is very interesting speculation. Pontius Pilate and Herod are played well and there are also many well done scenes in the movie. The scenes where Jesus is tempted by the devil are a very interesting interpretation. These are probably the best scenes in the film. The crucifixion is dramatic and realistic, but the post resurrection scenes seem weak. I think the film does a good job of interpreting the motives that people like Judas, Pilate, Herod, Caiaphas, Barabbas and Thomas may have had for their actions. This film is very much worth seeing but needs to be balanced by other films (like "Jesus of Nazareth") and a first hand study of the Gospels.

Summary: Pathetic
Review: This movie does not portray a more "human" or a "laughing" Jesus - it portrays a SINNER! One instance: Jesus GETS MAD at God when Joseph, his step-father, dies. He falls over his death bed crying with self-pity, "Without you I won't be able to go through with this..." He doesn't even know what God wants Him to do with His life - Mary has to tell Him. (Catholic overtones.) If your theology allows Jesus Christ to be a sinner, you might a blessing out of this film. If not, you probably wouldn't like it. I didn't.

Summary: Beautiful Portrayal
Review: This video is great. We had to watch it in a religious studies course, and let's just say I was looking forward to that class every day. It is very realistic, and doesn't feature a lifeless Jesus droning Bible passages. I absolutely loved the way the Messiah was protrayed as a fun, "laughing" Jesus. God is not a distant God, like the "clockmaker" portrayed in many 17th century Enlightenment ideals. We're made in His image. We share many characteristics. And joy is one of those. Why did Jesus turn water into wine? Even though Mary asked Him to perform the miracle, before the "right time," Jesus did not oppose the idea of supporting a festival. What does this show? I just loved this movie because Christ was shown as down-to-earth, with a lot of emphasis on His "human" side. It was great how so much attention was payed to detail. The involvement of Herod, the introduction of Barabbas (sp?) the revolutionary, the in-depth portrayals of the nasty politics of the Jewish leaders, and the fact that Judas was in charge of the money of the Twelve. The portrayal of temptation as inclusive of both seduction and power was good as well. Many extra non-Biblical details were added to flesh out the story a little more. Many people criticize this. I say, why not? These petty details support things that Jesus did, provide motivations, and in themselves don't affect the scope of spiritual Truth at all.

The thing I didn't like about this is how the ending seemed a little rushed. Not as many details from the sightings, etc. were portrayed.

I've been reading many of the previous reviews and they're so fundamentalist it's not funny... inserting tidbits here and there that do not affect the scope of things is not an error. *Portrayal of Truth, not fact!*

It's difficult to write a portrayal on the life of Jesus if all your sources are based on the spiritual teachings of Him. I thought a fine job was done on this movie with great attention to detail and the human side of Jesus.

Summary: A Brilliant Piece of Work
Review: Okay, as a non spiritual person, rather i am just a total movie nut, i must say that this film was beautifully done. Regardless of your faith, or how you choose to express it, the movie blends impressive scenery with heart-wrenchingly superb acting. Jeremy Sisto as Jesus after his his former roles, was quite a thrill to experience. I found myself watching him throughout the movie and saying to myself "that would be the face of Jesus." The simple kindness and joy in his expressions, the truth so eloquently expressed. The additional cast leading a truly enjoyable landscape upon which this film was carried, left me wanting so much more, i ran out and bought the remaining bible movies made by TriMark. So, whether you are a religous person looking for a new face to add to your ideas of the bible, or just a movie-holic like myself, i truly believe this movie is worth watching.

Summary: Jesus loves you!!!
Review: I believe that any movie that emphasizes the love of Jesus Christ and follows the Holy Bible deserves 5 stars. This movie was moving. One of the reviewers said Jesus "fell in love" in the beginning of the movie -- not true! I highly recommend this movie for a new Christian or someone wanting to get an intimate look into His life and what He did for all of mankind. This movie will bring tears to your eyes as you realize His unconditional love.

Summary: Jesus
Review: I could not rate lower than 1. This film is blasphemes, Jesus, didn't fall inlove. I could only watch the first 10 minutes of the film. I'm returning this film. The film summary was misleading!
