Rating: Summary: FRIDAY THE 13th SERIES BEGINS Review: Here we go the series begins with Jasons mother slaughtering everyone because of his death and them not paying enough attention to him. What a way to begin the series. But wait till the next 9. Freddy is not as good as Jason, neither is Michael. Go out and by the series... Now!!!
Rating: Summary: classic...or something Review: This film spawned the Jason icon. But, other than that, it's watered-down a bit for my taste. I saw this unedited for the first time not too long ago, and I was excited about experiencing the epic "Jason mask" for the first time! However, Jason doesn't emerge in the mask until, like, the third one. The main culprit in this first one is Jason's mother. Strange...and not as classic as the Jason Vorhees we all know and love. I suppose, by 80's horror film schlock standard, this film is mediocre. And, it has its place. But the down side is, it's not a Jason movie at all, so don't expect to see him.
Rating: Summary: SUCKIE MOVIE! Review: Was this movie supposed to be gorry? Cuz guess what? It wasn't. It was sOoOoOo cheesy! It was so stupid it was funny! I don't know what the whole movie has to do with Jason! I would really reccomend these following horror movies to you: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Freddy Vs. Jason, and Thirteen Ghosts.
Rating: Summary: It's Influence is still felt. Review: I have read many of the reviews here that give this film a low score, and would hazard a guess that many of these writers were not in the theater in 1980 when this film was released. Most people hadn't seen anything like it up to that time, and so the response was something to see. Today, we're too jaded after 20 plus years of slasher movies, but back in 1980, Friday the 13th was a pure shocker. For those who weren't lucky enough to see this one in a drive-in theater, you sure missed the ultimate horror treat!
Rating: Summary: Terrible!!!!!! Review: Jason Voorhees mom was doing all the killing?Awful!!I could see why she killed the initial camp counselors.Because they were the ones who let Jason drown. But to go back like 20 years later and kill a bunch of new counselors for no reason is stupid. The sequels are just as bad. Put a pole in the DEAD Jason, and have lightening strike, and all of a sudden he's alive again. Dreadful!!!The Halloween movies are much better.
Rating: Summary: Nothing new here Review: Not much to say. How many retarded teenagers do we have to watch get wiped out before the story actually starts? I'm being generous with 2 stars. There were a couple of jolts but this movie didn't offer anything that wasn't done much better in the "Halloween" series. Gore alone does not a story make. If I'm in the mood to watch slasher movies, Halloween I & II do it just fine.
Rating: Summary: gore galore! Review: 2 camp counselers sneak away from a campfire to make out.they are brutally killed with a knife by an unseen prowler. SEVERAL YEARS LATER...a girl gets a ride from a man(after being warned about the camp to which she's going) to the same camp where the 2 teens were killed where she will be working as a counseler.after meeting some of the main characters(ned, jack, and marcie),the audience returns to the first girl who gets a ride from somebody who chases her into the woods and slices open the girl's throat.at the camp(after visits from a snake, 2 pranks, the town drunk, and a cop)ned goes to check on a person he sees go into a cabin.he doesn't come out.jack and marcie go into the same cabin as ned and make out.at the main cabin, alice, bill, and brenda(three other counselers)begin to play strip monopoly.at the other cabin, (after a lightning bolt shows ned on the top bunk, throat slit,)marcie goes to the restroom cabin. a drip of blood falls onto jack's forehead.from under the bed, an arrow is shoved through the bunk bottom, and through jack's neck. at the restroom cabin, marcie goes to check on a noise in the showers.nothing is there she turns around, only to have her face split open with an axe. brenda goes to bed.she hears a child cry out for help. she goes to investigate. the archery range lights flash on, revealing her standing in front of a target. alice hears brenda scream. bill and her go to check it out and find a bloody axe on brenda's pillow, and 2 dead phones. ned's car is dead.steve(the owner)'s car has broken down.he is picked up by a cop.at the camp, the lights go out. bill goes to fix the generator. steve is dropped off and reconizes somebody who then stabs him in the stomach.alice wakes up and goes to check on bill. she finds him pinned to the generator door with arrows.she screams.she runs back to the main cabin, and seals herself in.she sees headlights and runs outside. she meets a woman named mrs. voorhees who says that her own son, jason, drowned at the camp.she trys to stab alice and is,in return, poked in the ribs with a fire poker. alice flees.she is chased until she comes to the kitchen.she hides in the spice closet only to have the door chopped with an axe. she whacks mrs. voorhees in the head with a skillet. she walks to the lake and is about to row a canoe into the lake, when the still very much alive mrs. voorhees attacks her with a machete.after a strugle, mrs. voorhees is decapitated.alice rows out into the lake and falls asleep. she wakes up and sees some cops and paramedics on shore.she relaxes. suddenly, the rotting, but still alive, jason voorhees leaps out of the lake and pulled under. she wakes up in a hospital and is told that they didn't find any boy...
Rating: Summary: SCREAM SUCKS! Review: This series is so much better. Scream is just mindless and stupid. This is actually scary, much unlike Scream.
Rating: Summary: Mindless entertainment.Love it. Review: Freddy is the king when it comes to slasher movies with cleverness and beautiful sets but high body counts and gore also deliver like hell.Friday the 13th is all about that and while the newer titles like Jason X have slipped, the first few Fridays are must-see.The story is not interesting.A killer kills the councellors on Camp Crystal lake. But it's not Jason. He's not around until part 2.Who is it?If you don't know, just see it.Anyway,by Friday standards, this movie has a low body count but it's quite gory even in this, the cut version. It's also kinda creepy. My real complaint is that there's no 5.1 remix for the dvd.Only the original mono track.I don't care too much about extras but the Nightmare dvds sound so great in 5.1.Real shame.Oh well,at least the picture delivers.
Rating: Summary: Buy the Australian DVD version NOW! Review: Just released this week on DVD in Australia is Friday the 13th (after a very long wait). It has been distributed by Warner Bros internationally. That is a good thing because we ended up with the full uncut version, plus a 'Making of Documentary'. The print transfer is pristine too - in fact, it is so clear you would think it was only filmed yesterday. Only problem is, it is quite a boring movie. I saw it years ago, and just wanted to own it to complete my horror DVD collection. It isn't a patch on "Halloween", although the scene at the end with the girl in the boat is brilliant.
