Summary: Jason lives!
Review: I own 1-10 on DVD! Nuff Said

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Kill her mommy! Kill her!
Review: Here's where it all began. True, future Jason flicks had almost nothing to do with the original story, but this is where the legend began. Jason Voorhees, a mongoloid boy drowns in Crystal Lake during the summer of 1957. In 1958, Jason's mother kills two camp counselors just when they are about to have sex. Then we are told there were a series of fires that started around the camp, but no one knew who was responsible.

Fast forward to the 'present day', June 13. The Camp is going to reopen, but the residents have already renamed the place Camp Blood. The camp counselors assemble and are preparing to get the camp ready for the summer's youngsters. Naturally there first night there, there is a terrible rain storm (It's gonna blow through here like a son of a gun!). One by one the counselors are killed off until only Amy remains. In the end she confronts and kills Mrs. Voorhees by decapitating her with a machete. Guess that's why the machete is Jason's favorite weapon of choice.

The final scene in the boat made everyone jump who saw this film for the first time and wasn't expecting it. To see young Jason leap out and grab Amy from behind is still to this day one of the most disturbing films ever shot.

This is not one of the goriest Jason films by far, but it had some good kills. One counselor who never even reaches the camp gets her throat slit convincingly as she leans against a tree. Kevin Bacon had the best kill with a spear coming up through his neck. His girlfriend got a nice little axe to the head too. Two deaths aren't even shown but we see the bodies later. The head counselor gets stabbed through the stomach, but we only see his facial expression. The great scene of Mrs. Voorhees getting her head cut off is great too. Not only does it look so real, but the way the slow motion starts and her hands try to reach where her head once were is very disturbing. A great film and a good history lesson for those who have no idea how the whole 'Jason' thing started.

Summary: Better than Halloween
Review: I liked this movie better than halloween but dont't get me wrong halloween was an awesome (a must buy). But friday the 13th had more gore, blood, and violence halloween didnt have blood or gore. And its the beginning of Jason. It's about jason's mom going around killing people cus she presumes her son drowned in the water and the camp counselors never cared. But jason got out of thw water and since he is a mongoloid he never knew what to do. Jason then returns as the villain is part which was pretty good to.

Summary: IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ATMOSPHERE.....
Review: I am not a huge fan of the 'FRIDAY THE 13TH' trilogy (is it like 10 or 11 so far?!?!) and I do prefer the 'NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET' trilogy (all except part 2) and 'HALLOWEEN' trilogy (parts 1,2,3 and H2O only) but I have to say this movie has a very effective creepy atmosphere and tension build up. Some folks may need a gratuitous amount of gore, splatter and violence (and this movie has a decent amount) but I prefer ATMOSPHERE... I still cover my eyes during some parts especially the KEVIN BACON death and the arrow scene but all in all it's not too NASTY AND GORY... I am sure this movie has been 'cliched' to death but at least compared to the horror offerings these days and no amount of scariness and NO ATMOSPHERE which seems to have taken a back seat to over the top gore, blood, guts and nudity... it is nice to 'check out' the old style horror of the 80's and ATMOSPHERE... I also recommend 'FRIGHT NIGHT', 'RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD', 'EVIL DEAD' (all of them) for decent atmospere... Take the movie for what it's worth... after about the 4th sequel the trilogy pretty much lost steam and got more stupid as the years went on... (I.E.... JASON GOES TO MANHATTAN AND JASON X) < talk about DUMB AND DUMBER!!!!! There is not any JASON in this one and no hockey mask so not to disappoint anyone who has never seen it... MOMMY is just a tad upset... not award winning horror by any stretch but a good homage to the classic horror of the early 80's.....

Summary: This is where it all started
Review: "Friday the 13th" is the first in a long (long) line of sequals. A group of kids have gotten to Camp Crystal Lake to reopen the camp grounds. But lurking in the in the shadows and the bushes is someone, and this someone soon starts killing all the kids as savagly as possable. First of all, the mystery (and that's what the first one is) dosn't play fair, the killer comes out of no where. I liked it because this is the goriest of all of them. This movie is the perfect example of 80s slasher movies; gratuitous sex and violence, with just a slight wink to let you know the film makers aren't taking things too seriosly. The only notable item in this movie for main stream audiences is Kevin Bacon has a small part in it, and is butchered in the movie's silliest death scene. The killer is under the bed with a spear, and he shoved it through the bed, through his throat. There is no way they could have had that long a weapon put it through the bed. But all the silliness is what makes it so great.

Summary: DVD Quality
Review: It is a pleasure to see this film in its original widescreen format. It is a vast improvement over the VHS; however, some things to note before purchasing. Extras are limited to a trailer and an alternate language. Despite the availability of space on the disc, they chose to use a high compression rate. This is really only noticable if you zoom, though. Also, an original film flaw about 46 minutes in is still present. This consists of a black line on the left side of the image that appears for about 10 seconds. Since it appears in a dark sequence it doesn't stand out as much as it could, but it is still annoying that it wasn't fixed.

Summary: Raved as a genre success, but not as good as presumed
Review: Friday the 13th (1980) Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Laurie Bartram, Jeannine Taylor, Kevin Bacon, Mark Nelson, Robbi Morgan, Peter Brouwer, Walt Gorney, D: Sean S. Cunningham.

Palmer is the most effective thing, who puts in a climactic appearance only for a quick payday to buy herself a car (!), in this moneymaking chiller as a vengeful killer hunting sex-crazed counselors at woodsy Camp Crystal Lake. (You reckon there was even a script written or a screenwriter named Victor Miller?) Makeup artist Tom Savini's realistic gore effects are the only ticket. Film gave birth to a new horror icon that later turns up in the sequel. Countless, mimicking sequels follow.

Running Time: 93 minutes and rated R for gore, violence and some nudity.
