Rating: Summary: Awesomely Fun Spook-Thriller Review: A wildly fun rollercoaster of a horror movie, with serious overtones and well-realized characters co-existing perfectly alongside over-the-top "Evil Dead"-style outrageousness. Apocalyptic prophecy, delectable sexuality, blood-ripping violence, "Return Of The Living Dead"-style monsters, Die Hard/Rambo-level heavy firearms, respectful handling of religious themes, emotional vulnerabilty and good-natured high-octane thrills may not have any business mixing together so seamlessly in one movie without at least a few bumps, but they fit together in "Demon Knight" like moon and stars or Halloween and pumpkins. Concerns a drifter in possesion of a mystical artifact coveted by the forces of evil showing up at a boarding house, and the descent of those forces upon the house and its varied inhabitants. A truly great movie, with extra points for having one of the best performances to date by the versatile and gorgeous Brenda Bakke, one of my all-time favorites.
Recommended for fans of "Return Of The Living Dead", "Evil Dead 2", the "Jeepers Creepers" movies, "Night Of The Demons", "Freddy Vs. Jason", "Resident Evil" 1 & 2, and "From Dusk Til Dawn"
Rating: Summary: Perfect TALES FROM THE CRYPT movie... Review: 5 stars, do i need to say more? Billy Zane was excellent in the role as the Collector. Good special effects, lots of humor and gore... Buy it...
Rating: Summary: THE BEST HORROR/COMEDY OF THE 90s Review: A cool strong woman in Jada Pinkett Smith. A horror show that tackles religious themes. William Sadler (for me, that's a done deal) as the hero. And Billy Zane (wow) as the villain. I liked him more as this scenery-chewing monster than as Cal Hockley in Titanic.
Rating: Summary: A modern day classic Review: Any fan of the series can appreciate this movie. This isn't just a 90 minute episode though, a lot of thought went into the plot. The characters are well acted and believable, a rarity for the genre, and the plot deals with some off kilter religious themes, not just the same old formula a lot of horror movies are made up of. Definately see this movie even if you aren't a Tales from the Crypt fan.
Rating: Summary: I loved this movie!! Review: Billy Zane is wonderful as the fiendish yet sexy Collector, out to destroy humankind as we know it, by using an ancient relic. The only one that can stop him is Brayker, played to the "T" by William Sadler. Battle ensues at a dilapidated motel, involving the residents, which include Jada Pinkett as Jeryline, Thomas Haden Church as Roach, and other assorted characters. I seriously suggest this movie for Billy Zane fans and even the few out there who are not.
Rating: Summary: Cheap, B-Movie Fun! Review: Demon Knight is a blast which is a lot to say for a film that seems to be made on a sixty dollar budget. The special effects are nothing spectacular ( but I appreciated that more than outrageous tricks relied on by films like The Matrix ). This film is the best Tales From the Crypt episode you'll ever see. It may not be filled with the greatest acting or dialogue but it is one of the most entertaining films you'll see in a long time. I saw this in 95' and enjoyed it since then. I've just purchased the DVD and cannot wait to sample the film on high quality stock. Billy Zane shines although a lackluster Jada Pinkett should have been replaced by a more vibrant black actress such as Nia Long. Zane and Pinkett have no chemistry and it surprises that the filmmakers decided to have Pinkett be the " chosen mistress " to Billy's underlord persona. Anyway, this film has a few minor faults but nothing to make this film less than a five-star gem. A hidden jewel if I say so myself.
Rating: Summary: It's always better on DVD. Review: Demon Knight, its a Tales from the Crypt movie. It is so much better than the Boredello of Blood, its not funny. The audio on Demon Knight, I thought was better on VHS. (I could here the dialog better on video, but that's also on a $600 JVC.) Still, DVD offers better picture even at it's worse. If you like Tales from the Crypt, You'll like Demon Knight. You might even think about God, demons and what if's. It could actually inspire you, maybe. It's a good Tale. Billy Zane, and Willam Sadler are great with a good cast of familiar faces. Faces from Wings, Night Court, The Nutty Professor (remake) and American Gothic (TV show).
Rating: Summary: Excellent horror film, dreadfully underrated Review: Ernest Dickerson (Bones) directed this first feature length film based on HBO's Tales From the Crypt series. Demon Knight is a wildly funny, obscenely violent, and downright fun horror film that went virtually ignored by audiences and critics upon it's release, but the film stands today as a truly underrated horror film. When a mysterious stranger named Braker (William Sadler) comes upon a rundown motel in search of sanctuary, he and the other occupants fight for their lives when a demon-esque collector (Billy Zane) and his hordes come calling. Everything about Demon Knight is top notch: from the eye popping (literally) action and gore to various genre in-jokes to the superb performances (Zane and Sadler are terrific), Demon Knight is a true horror gem. The rest of the great cast includes Jada Pinkett, CCH Pounder, Thomas Haden Church, and B-movie favorite Dick Miller. The newly re-issued DVD is another one of Universal's recent re-released horror DVD's that is extra-less, and at least a commentary or documentary would have been a welcome feature.
Rating: Summary: This movie is great! Review: First and for most Billy Zane is so sexy! So if you like him this is a good movie. If you like Creep show this is a good movie. If you like horror its a good movie. If you like comedy this is a good movie. If you like good vs evil this is a good movie. Hell its just a good movie (no pun intended).
Rating: Summary: Billy Zane Rocks! Review: Funny, scary, and entertaining, "Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight" is the first of a series of films that are derived from the popular HBO series. Unlike the "Creep show" and "Tales From the Darkside" films of the past, "Tales From the Crypt" focuses on one tale of horror and suspense each time, allowing the story to develop into a more entertaining experience.Directed by Ernest Dickerson ("Juice") "Demon Knight" features the immense talents of William Sadler, Jada Pinkett Smith, and the ever versatile, amazing Billy Zane in a horror movie laced with plenty of comedic moments. The story revolves around a key that Sadler is carrying in order to pass on to the next guardian. There are a total of 7 keys, representing a galaxy each. According to Sadler's story, the key contains the blood of Jesus Christ. While dying on the cross at Golgotha, a follower of Christ pour his blood into the key to prevent the conquest of earth and the rest of the universe by Satan and his legion of demons. Until all keys are together can this happen, and with 6 of the keys in the hand of demons, the fate of the universe lies on Pinkett Smith's character, who is the chosen one to carry the key after Sadler. I must praise Billy Zane. He is amazing. He plays the perfect villain, and in this role he is dynamite. His performance is more comedic, and he would make similar villains of the past such as Freddy Krueger very proud. I can understand why Hollywood has typecasted him as a villain in almost all of his films after seeing this film. Zane's intense sex appeal will captivate many viewers, and his range of emotions is incredible. Pinkett Smith who was coming into films fresh from the cancellation of the long-running NBC series "A Different World," is great. As the heroine of the movie she really can kick butt, and her on-screen chemistry with Zane is perfect. In conclusion, this a great film to view if you are in the mood for horror mixed in with a bit of dark humor. The film can be strong at times with the sight of gore and violence, but if it weren't for Billy Zane's performance, I wouldn't have cared to watch this film at all. He is one of the film world's most gifted actors and this film was a showcase of his talent before he became a bigger name when he starred in "James Cameron's Titanic." "Demon Knight" is an excellent example of how to create an entertaining horror film. Skip "Blair Witch" and try this film instead.
