Summary: Good value, not a great value.
Review: I wanted an inexpensive 27" tv to carry me over until I could afford a really well made television. I have had this TV since last Christmas and I agree that it is a good, not GREAT value for the money. The screen is fine. The sound is ok, However, since day 1, from when the tv is turned on, it emits a high pitch whining sound which is very annoying! This sound continues for about 30 minutes until the tv "warms up'. A new sound is then left, much like a fuzzy, static, low crackle sound. The screen also cuts off written scrolls such as CNN etc written at the bottom, and any news alerts...!!! I wont complain though, cause the only one that comes in is Fox news and that is the main one that I am concerned with, so...In conclusion, this tv is a good value for the money, but comparing it to my 19" Samsung from 10 years ago, that is still a much better value and was great in all around quality for sound and picture and options, being that it was the "Apex" of it's day.I would still pick that over this one. There are PLENTY of other makes and models out there for around the same price as this Apex. Shop around and get a better tv or take your chances. I heard its either a hit or miss with this one, just like their DVD players...Good luck!

Summary: Broken in 91 Days
Review: I was recently in the market for a 27" TV, and I made the rounds to my usual set of about 6 or 7 electronics suppliers. It was then that the APEX caught my eye. Relative to comparable televisions, the picture quality was extremely high, with a sharpness that could not be found in similar models. It was restricted to mono sound, however this was not a concern for me, as I didn't need sitcoms in stereo. The final touch was the slick styling of the set, so I picked it up.

All was well for the first few months, until a bizarre rattling sprung up. At any point in which the picture tube showed an image that was brighter than it was dark, the set emits an extremely loud rattling from inside the case. About a month later, the screen corners became cloudy and took on a purple hue.

I called the warranty center and, of coure, it was just out of its 90 day warranty - the customer service reps were of no help. To be fair, the parts are actually covered, but it will cost me over half of what I paid for the set in labor to fix it. So today I sit with a rattling, purple-cornered, slick looking TV.

As an added note, the faceplate covering the controls has the sturdiness and quality workmanship of a Cracker Jack prize.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

Summary: Mediocre Quality for a Good Price...
Review: The picture quality is good, but the reception is very poor on some cable channels (68, 69, and 70 are the worst). Initially, I thought the problem was with the cable. But we have two TVs and only the Apex shows a problem. We also get picture-perfect reception when using the VCR as the TV tuner. We also moved to a new condominium and still have trouble with the same channels on the Apex. So it is definitely the TV causing the problem. With most TVs being made in China today, there will be quality problems no matter which brand you buy.

Review: The TV worked great for the first 30+ days, then I tried to turn it on one day and the power would only stay on for a second and then it would die. I contacted amazon and they said that their 30 day warranty had just expired and that they would not accept the TV back. Don't buy this TV...

Summary: great tv with one minor flaw
Review: there is no stereo! the inputs/outputs are mono. which makes no sense really.

But i really do enjoy this tv. it's great for video games/dvd's. the picture is just crystal. you also have different picture settings you can access with one button press on the remote. default (your setting), theatre, and home. good for switching picture types for games to tv, etc.

the mono sound output is easy to bypass if you just connect the audio out from your dvd/vcr to your stereo. I needed a new TV but want to wait for prices in HDTV's to come down a bit. this is a great TV to hold me over till then and i didnt have to spend alot of money

Summary: Perfect for its price
Review: This is just about the least expensive 27" TV on the market, and, if you're trying to get together a decent set of home theatre equipment without spending an arm and a leg, there's nothing better on the market.

However, that does not mean that it's perfect. First of all, the edges, particularly the left and right edge, cut out sooner than is normal for TVs - on several movies I've watched, the text in the opening credits scrolls off the side.

Second of all, the input channels have some bleed - don't expect to be able to use all three of the RCA channels without getting some picture distortion. That said, even if you throw down a bit of money for an A/V switch, this is a value.

Also, there is a stereo version in existence, so if it's really important to you, go ahead and shop around for it. Personally, I go through a reciever, and only use the speakers for a couple very old video game systems, most of which don't even have stereo sound.

Summary: Murphy's Law
Review: This was the best TV deal I have come across in quite some time. I have owned this set for over a year and have had NO problems with it whatsoever.

The screen is near flat thus reducing any glare you might get from lights or windows. The look is sleek and high-tech and it serves its purpose well. To get a similar TV with all of the same options would have cost over $250 easily when I purchased this.

In my opinion, the perfect use for this TV is as a monitor to an existing stereo/5.1 setup. The TV is not a stereo receiver, which is not a big deal if you are using an Audio/Video Recever to run all of your equipment through. One simple S-Video connection to my receiver and bingo! A great 27" TV for a fraction of the cost.

The only annoying thing about this TV is that it does not remember your Video Out selection after you turn off the TV. Meaning, you always have to select your video source every time you switch it on.

Other than that, this is a great value.
