Summary: A good quality product, at a cheap price!
Review: ... This system is excellent. The sound is great although it depends on how well the MP3s are encoded. 128 bit encoding is kindof low end, go for 192 instead. The music sounds just as good as a CD, sometimes better ...The headphones included are fine, but I put on my room mate's ear muff headphones and it sounded spectacular. Great bass, and it uses Creative's EAX sound enhancers. The only drawbacks I have witnessed so far s that the interface took a little toying with to get comfortable with, but once you're familiar with it it's easy. The Creative PlayCenter 2 software used to organize the music from your computer is a different story. ...It's like they went out of their way to make it overly-complicated to do simple tasks. The navigation in it is clunky at best, just overall asinine, but it is possible to get what you want done with a little patience and initiative.

Summary: A good product with a couple things on the down side
Review:

I have a 6GB version of Nomad, and I am overall satisfied with its quality and performance. I do not regret the purchase.

The sound quality is just fine, and I am rather picky on sounds. I couldn't even stand the reduced quality of MP3 sound compared to CD's when it first came out, but the convenience of having so many songs all packed in and ready to play any time made me a convert already. And Nomad is really a good portable MP3 player. It has a good equalizer and a few other fancy additions like effects and playing speed adjustment, so you can adjust sounds to your own liking to a good extent.

I also wanted to make use of Nomad's recording capability, but I haven't been able to since I need a decent microphone. This isn't a good device to do a casual recording, like you can with a Walkman.

A couple things that I think can be improved are the battery life, the start up time, and the navigation.

Before updating to the latest Asian version of firmware, it only lasted only about three hours. To my surprise, after updating it got up to about four hours. The start up time is about 40 seconds, which is kind of annoying when you just want music real quick on a short trip to bathroom :P. The navigation is kind of awkward, slow when you are playing at the same time. I just hope the search capability is improved so that I don't always have to start out from scrach, the first letter.

I think 10GB would be perfect, while 20GB is an overkill. If you have lots of songs, 6GB is quickly filled up unless you go for recording at lower bit rate.

Summary: I have had mine for over a year and I still love it
Review: After reading some of the other reviews its hard to believe that we talking about the same item. Only thing I would agree with is that it isn't for carrying with you when jogging and such. I keep it plugged in by the computer.

Summary: WARNING...
Review: Creative Labs should be ashamed of themselves for putting this product on the market. This completley wiped out the hard drive of my PC and blew my circuit breaker.... A huge waste of money and time. Words can not express my dissapointment with this product and company. You have been warned.

Summary: Serious QC Problems
Review: Do not buy Creative lab products. After contacting customer service multiple times about a warranty item, I talked to one of their techs, who said that they estimate 10% product failure on their products. My options were to pay to have it fixed, with another 10% chance that the repair could fail, or get the broken part back. They do not stand up behind their products. Don't throw your money away.

Summary: NICE
Review: Ever since my license got suspended, I've been riding public transportation on a daily basis. I got tired of lugging my giant "portable" CD walkman around so I decided to do some shopping for something a little smaller. MP3 players came to mind, especially since I've already got a handful of strictly MP3 gigs on my PC.

32Mb players run a little over [price]. Extremely small and lightweight, but WTF am I gonna do with 32megs??? Listen to the same 5 songs over and over again? Rewrite a new tracklist every night? Garbage.

64Mb players go for about [price]. See 32Mb description above x 2.

128Mb players can easily creep up to the [price] mark. Still not nearly enough space for my tough-to-please mentality. That's not even 1/4 of a CD's worth.

and then it appeared...

Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox - under [price].

10 gigs of music. Wow. 10 gigs?!?! And I'm here shopping around for 128megs?!?! *.WMA, *.WAV, and *.MP3 format with upgradable firmware?! Sold.

I finally got my new toy this past Monday and I already LOVE IT. The only thing that [stinks] is that it's the same size as my old CD walkman, which sorta defeats the purpose of why I wanted something new in the first place. Oh well. If you're all up on the whole digital music thing, this item is a MUST HAVE.

*Fast transfers via USB ports - each track only takes a few seconds to upload/download.

*100% Customizable. Playlists along with tracks categorized by artist, album, and genre.

CONS:

*Comes loaded with some garbage samples and tracks. Not a big deal though, go ahead and delete 'em.

*I had no problem installing the included software on my Win98 SE PC at home, but couldn't do it on my Win2000 box at work. When I launch the Creative PlayCenter 2, it generates errors and shuts down even after reinstalling it.

Overall: 9 out of 10.

Summary: Nomad Jukebox (they don't deserve ONE star)
Review: First i'd like to start by saying THIS ITEM IS NOT WORTH BUYING. If you are intrested in buying a MP3 player i suggest you buy the Ipod. Anyways, the nomad's huge size and heaviness takes all the good values of a MP3 player. You want to be able to work out with it and clip it on to your belt not LUG it around all day. Seacondly, the batteries only last 4 hours, if your really lucky, normally its less than 4. Thrid, it skips! which is another huge pisitive for MP3s they aren't supposed to skip! Also Creative's customer serivce is terriablly bad don't count on them to replace a lost CD or cable.
The Nomad Jukebox by creative labs is a disgrace to MP3 players. <<>>

Summary: Not bad
Review: For what it is (an alternative to the ipod, for those of us who don't have 400+ bucks to spend) it's not bad. It plays the music just fine, plenty of volume, lots of memory. Transfer rate from hard drive to the player is very fast, and you can que up all the files at once so all you have to do is wait a few minutes. Transfer from CDs is a little slower and I had some problems with it not transfering all the songs.
On the negative side, navigating around can be very tedious and it's fairly easy to clear your playlist on accident. Battery life [is bad], ... The charger has no indicator lights so you don't really know if your batteries are actually charging or not.
Considering the relatively low price tag and the large amounts of space this is a pretty good buy, as long as you can stand some minor annoyances.

Summary: Only gets worse
Review: I bought the 6 gig version of this product right when it came out, which I think was a little over a year ago. I was amazed that it could hold 6 gigs... why would any one ever buy 128 or even 32 meg ones!!!????? It seemed too good to be true... turns out, it was!
When I first started using it, it worked Ok... It has always had excellent sound quality, and with my head phones, it sounded awesome. If you play with the 'Parametric EQ', and turn up the 'Mid Frequency', then you can get it to play REALLY REALLY LOUD!!!!! I really don't understand the reviews that say it can't go up loud, this is the loudest portable Mp3 or CD player I have ever used!!! That was a definite plus for me... It the beginning the only drawbacks were that the batteries only lasted 3-4 hours, (It takes about 4 times longer then my laptop to charge, too!) that it would periodically shut off for no apparent reason, about one in every 10 songs I put on it wouldn't work properly, and it's reaaaaallyyyyyyy sllloooooowwwww!!!!!
Then it kept getting worse.... the batteries started dying faster and faster, it started shutting off all the time - it always dies when going over rough spots in a car, and now the majority of the time it won't turn on at all, and when it does it won't work on any batteries, it only sometimes works when plugged into the wall. - Which is completely useless, because I might as well just use my laptop, which isn't nearly as annoying.
Overall I wish I never would have bought this product for any amount of money had I of known the aggravation this nasty machine would cause me... I recommend looking into one of the other 10 gig mp3 players (Don't settle for an 128 Mb, it's useless!)
(Don't shy away from other 'Creative' products though, my Creative speakers, sound card and CD burner work great!!!!!!!)

Summary: Creative Nomad Jukebox 10G- A Good Buy
Review: I find this item an extremely good value. The menus are easy to navigate, and you can organize your music in a number of different ways. It is compatible with Windows Media, so you transfer files using that program. Or, you can use the software which comes with the player, Creative Jukebox. This is also a very simple, yet versatile program. Though the player itself is a bit bulky (about the size of a portable cd player), I find it easy to take everywhere I go. The music never skips and the recharagable batteries last about 4.5 hours. I definitely recommend this item to the music lover with a budget.
