Summary: Best ink jet printer I've ever owned-- by far
Review: Having purchased this 6 months ago for my home office based on reviews posted on Amazon, I feel compelled to add my own short report. I've used this printer for 6 months daily, and have not had a single technical problem with it. Setting itself apart from every other ink jet I've suffered through, it's quiet, fast, reliable, easy-to-use, and the paper never jams. Moreover, its 4 separate ink cartridges (one black, 3 colors) saves a bundle on replacement ink. (NB: with this printer, you can find very cheap, generic ink cartridges from several vendors onine by googling for "ink replacement Canon i550:).

Summary: I truly hated this printer - until Cannon fixed it
Review: I have owned this printer for nearly a year, and have found that it will print for me about 30% of the time. Most frequently, the paper doesn't feed correctly, and the rest of the time the ink runs dry (even though there is a lot of ink left) and a "cleaning" and a new sheet of paper are required. Nothing would give me so much pleasure as dropping this worthless piece of junk from a very high building and watching it crash, but then instead of having print capability 30% of the time, I would have it 0% of the time, so I would be less frustrated, but overall worse off. I can't get my $$ back at this point, and so I guess I'm stuck with it.

I will say that when it does print (and the ink hasn't run dry), it is of good quality. But that is such a rare event, it is hardly worthy of note.

Three months after I wrote this review, I called Cannon for service. They referred me to a service center about 10 miles from my home. When I called as well as when I dropped the printer off, the service people were fast and knowledgeable. They replaced the print head and now I do not have to clean the head before each use. The paper feed often needs to be tinkered with, but other than that, I am now happy with this product. Cannon even mailed the printer back to me so I only had to visit the service center one time.

While I was initially very unhappy with the printer, I was very pleased with their service and the printer works much, much better.

Summary: Great value
Review: I'm very happy with this printer, you get allot of printer for a great low price! The seperate color ink tanks will save lots of $$ down the line. It has good photo capibilities and is fast with text.

Summary: A step backwards for CANON.
Review: I recetly bought a new Canon i550 printer and I put it to work immediately. First, I was impressed by its quietness and the capability of closing both trays, input & output. But I'm using my printers only for making brochures and booklets for my patients in 3 different languages, not for photographs or pictures...For my purpose, this printer is very disapointing product: the print is faint (not CRISPY, as most other reviewers stated), even in its highest quality--it can't much even the "draft" mode of Canon S600 inkjet printer, which i'm using successfully for better than 8 months. I thought Canon is improving their line of products progressively (they stopped manufacturing the EXCELLENT S600), but it seems I'm wrong! Of course, I'm still going to look at Canon printers because of their economical "Think Tank", but I'll first try them and than buy.

Summary: Very pleased
Review: Have been using the i550 for six months now, much better than my old Canon bubble jet and does not use anywhere near the ink of my older HP inkjet. Blank ink lasts a pretty good amount of printing and the ink cartridges are much less expensive than either Canon or HP. I rate this a best buy product. I do a lot in color but very few quality photo prints so I can't rate those honestly.

Summary: Radio Frequency Interference Generator
Review: BE AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH THIS PRODUCT. Its print quality is great, but my unit even when turned off but still plugged in, causes severe electrical interference with any AM radio in the same room, whether the radio is connected with an AC adapter or using batteries.

Summary: AWESOME Printer!!!
Review: I have owned and used this printer for about 2 weeks now and it is by far the best printer that I have ever owned/used!. It is quick and easy to set up, you're printing in no time at all. It has both the usb and parallell inputs. It uses the four ink bays - black, and the three seperate colors so that if you run low on one, you just have to replace that one and not all of them or even the print head (like HP makes you). The main reason I purchased this printer was the seperate ink bays that saves alot of $$$. I recommended this printer for EVERYONE.

Summary: Unusable for flesh tones
Review: Prints landscapes nicely...flesh tones are horrible!!! Unusable! Anyone want to buy mine? I've manually changed the print settings, cleaned the heads, nothing helps. My old $50 Epson makes better prints. No one else here seems to have this problem...maybe I got a lemon. Stay away from this one!
