Summary: Amazing
Review: See the demand of this product. I'm currently using this one for my HP Handheld/PC 320LX (pretty old and perfect). Inserted it and configured it, Boom, I am on the Internet. Pretty simple and fast. In the product guide there is a 2 page section -- ISP Configuration guide, which is very good and helpful. Currently I'm juggling between Compaq iPaq and Jornada 545. Once I decide, I'll buy second Pretec 56k compact flash modem card for that one too.

Review: Terrible Tech support! Don't waste your money. Disconnection problems are constant. The documentation that comes with it is useless. I would have given it a rating of no-stars but...

Summary: Trouble connecting
Review: This is my second Pretec modem and my second Pocket PC. I could not get the connection to work with the HP545 or the Casio E-115. Each time the connection goes through, it immediately disconnects. I'm proud someone posted the tech support number online. I'll try that tommorrow.

Summary: This modem is great!
Review: This modem is great! If you've used Dial Up Networking , setting this up should be a breeze. Some internet services, AOL for example, require a code of authenticity, in other words, you need to have the net service to go online. However, I can help you there; If you use AOL, go to keyword CEBETA. Just follow the instructions and check your e-mail the next day. If you don't use AOL, find a free internet service. Anyway, if you need proof, how about this; I'm writing this review on my palmtop!

Summary: Small and fast, what more could you want.....
Review: Well, if a regular modem is fine for you, this is the one to get for your Pocket PC. After a couple years of the slow 14.4 modem that Palms *still* sells, using this one was a joy. Very easy to set up, just stick it in the Compact Flash slot on the Jornada, and configure your email settings to use it, piece of cake. It's very compact, and the speed is great. However, before buying it, you may want to consider if you would be better off getting a Socket card to do wireless internet through your cell phone. I use this with my Qualcomm phone, and it's a great alternative. Connection is quite a bit slower, so if you can afford BOTH, that's the ideal way to go.

Summary: It works! What's more to say?
Review: When you're buying a modem for a pocket computer, you're probably not interested in bells and whistles; you want something that's as small and as reliable as possible, that will let you connect to the Internet and check your email or surf the Web.

The Pretec modem fits that need perfectly. There's no flashing LEDs, no driver discs; the box contains nothing but the tiny modem, a phone cord and a brief instruction manual. (There's not even an AOL disc. They must be slipping.)

I was able to get connected in less than ten minutes, without touching the instruction manual. Just slip the modem into the slot, plug in the phone cord, set up a few basic connection settings, and you're off and running. If your ISP supports WIndows dialup networking, it will very probably support this.

The manual is the weak spot; the installation settings it describes on page 7 and 8 may well not match up with those needed. Since the dialogs used to configure the Pocket PC are quite similar to the dialogs used to set up Windows dial-up networking, you'll want to have your ISP's setup instructions available.

In conclusion, this product is certainly more than worthwhile; it gives you full-featured dialup capabilities in only a few cubic inches of space.

One final caveat: This product is also known as the "Pocket PC Email Expansion Pack". If you've just purchased a Pocket PC, you may find that there's a special offer included for this expansion pack, and you'll want to check out that offer's pricing and terms before deciding where to buy.

Summary: A must have for the road warrior, even one with a laptop.
Review: Without a modem or ethernet card, your Pocket PC is just a PC companion product -- it must have a PC to get mail, surf, or message.

With a modem, your Pocket PC becomes a truly stand alone device.

This modem is the sturdiest design I've seen for dialing through a regular analog phone line. No frail parts to snap off, no weird connections that require you to purchase a different cable to connect. You'll be able to take this right out of the box, plug it in and get connected.

With this small, rugged modem I'm able to check my e-mail at times when hauling out my laptop would do -- waiting near the gate at an airport, at breaks in meetings, while visiting a client, etc. The ability to sync up my avantgo pages or get my most recent e-mail has been a great benefit to me, especially since I travel.

Your Pocket PC is just a toy until you have this modem.
