Summary: Geena Davis gives a brilliant performance
Review: A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN is spectaculary beautiful and very funny. Of all the team players, Davis is the stand out, giving a touchingly modest performance that shows her range and diversity when it comes to choosing parts in cinema. Her split scene is still my favorite scene in a film ever. And I mean ever.

Summary: A League of their own
Review: A league of their own is the firt movie that I have seen dealing with women in baseball. It is a movie for the whole famil, and has a little something for everyone. The casting was awsome! Madonna did a great job, and Geena Davis made you laugh and cry. I think this is Penny Marshall's best! There are so many good things to say about this powerful movie and I don't have the time to name them all. My family and I love this movie, and I highly recomend it for all viewers.

Summary: One of the best movies I've ever seen
Review: A League of their Own was one of the best movies I've ever had the pleasure to see. I had seen it years ago and recently bought my own copy of it. This movie is one of the best that Penny Marshall has ever directed. The casting was superb. Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell were perfect as street-wise, but loveable May and Doris! Geena Davis did a wonderful job playing Dottie Henson, who had a genuine love for the game, yet had responsibilities and priorities that were more important to her. Lori Petty was great as Kit, Dottie's little sister who fought so hard to get out from under her sister's shadow. Marla Hooch, what a great character!! Evelyn and her little boy Stillwell "Angel" will keep you in smiling all the time you want to bean him with a baseball bat. Ellen Sue, Helen, Betty Spaghetti, I feel like I know them all!! And Tom Hanks plays one of his best roles ever, as Jimmy Duggan, an ex-ball player turned coach. Not too thrilled with the job of coaching "girls", he accepts the job and finally comes to respect them as a team and as baseball players. I think one of the best parts of the movies is when the ball players reunite after 40 years and the casting of the older woman to play the parts of the aging ball players is a masterpiece. It is remarkable how these older "look-alikes" were all brought into this movie. This is a movie worth watching, owning and recommending. Very few come along in a lifetime that provide so much good, positive entertainment, but this movie has it all. I recommend it highly!

Summary: Smash Hit
Review: A League of Their Own

Tom Hanks portrays Jimmy Dugan, an alcoholic, ex-baseball player whose big league career is over. Jimmy Dugan gets hired to coach the All-American Girls Baseball League in 1943 when all the men went off to war. At first he didn't believe in the girls and was extremely negative and sarcastic about their ability. He never took their games seriously. Eventually they win his heart and bring him back into the game with gutsy plays and fierce competitiveness.
Dugan is especially fond of Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), the girl with the best swing on the team. Dotty spends most of her time keeping Coach Dugan in line while leading and sometimes calling the shots for her team. The roster includes Madonna, Lori, Petty, and Rosie O'Donnell. This team goes all the way to the World Series. This movie is based on a true story of women who paved the way for women's athletics as we know it today. A League of their Own is extremely inspirational and a must see for all girls.

Summary: Just shy of a homerun
Review: A little too sentimental for its own good, "A League of Their Own" comes up just shy of a homerun.

The bittersweet comedy is the true story of 1943's all-woman baseball league, put together to satisfy baseball fans while the male players went to war.

Geena Davis, Lori Petty and Madonna star as the women determined to prove their mettle and disprove the popular belief that "girls" can't play the game. Tom Hanks co-stars as their lovable, perpetually drunk coach, and Jon Lovitz appears in a scene-stealing cameo.

The film more or less follows the pattern of most sports films, setting up the conflict that will eventually pit sister against sister in the climactic championship game.

It's testament to director Penny Marshall that the film mostly manages to rise above the clichéd storyline, at least until the awkward epilogue, which forces emotion instead of letting it unfold, and reduces its characters to caricatures.

A League of Their Own isn't quite in a league of its own, but it's pretty close.

Summary: A Magic Movie!
Review: A really fun and pleasant motion picture! Fine performances all around. Jon Lovitz has just a small role, but I especially enjoyed his part! He's a howl! This film can be watched again and again! Get it!

Summary: Interesting bit of base history
Review: A well written script and plenty of good talent this movie delivers an enjoyable and entertaining experience. The only good movie that Madonna has ever been in as far as I can remember. Hanks and Davis are great of course and the movie delivers a bit of little known baseball history. Very entertaining and a strong recommendation.

Summary: Yea Bill Pullman!
