Summary: Great book for Artist or for just anybody......
Review: This book is one of my favorit books out of all the art books i own (which is a awful lot). Its like my bible for drawing now... I have always loved pencil art.... and always wonderd how they make it look so real.... the trick is to look at it from the bottom layer, and up. Anyways after reading Ann Kullberg's book i have understand how to do so much more then what i did...before reading the book....i have to admit i never really read the art books i have, i just look throught them at the instrutions.... but i started reading this book and could not put it down! It tells how to do so much details like: she shows you what kind of tools to use,and how to make cheaper ones, she shows you light and how to use it, she shows you mood, how to make skin tones, gives you steps on how to color the face and hair, how to make clothes in all kinds of fabric. The book even gives you demostrations whith some of her paintings, And I almost forgot it gives you a section on how to sale you art work in the busniess. This book is so wonderful it has made it alot easier to do my pencil drawings. It is a good book if your needing help or if you just want to look at the awsome pitures that she has created.

Summary: A Fantastic Book
Review: This book is outstanding in its information about doing portraits in colored pencil, but, to me, it goes way beyond a "How To" book on a single subject. The sections on light and shadow and the importance of value contrast translate to any subject or media. I also found the information and examples on composition very helpful. I use it over and over.

Review: This is a really beautiful book! The distinctive style and generous showing of many beautiful portraits make this a book worthy of anyone's coffee table. Every picture is magic.

This book is not just for artists.

Summary: A Great Portrait Book
Review: This is one of the best books I have bought on the art of creating a portrait! I have never taken a class or read a book that addressed the art of seeing light on your subject, creating a good background, or use of color as well as this book. I can't wait for the next book by Ms. Kullberg!

Summary: colored pencil portraits step by step, by Ann Kullberg
Review: This is the best colored pencil book I've seen. I have very many! But this is the best one.

Summary: this isn't a book for beginners
Review: This isn't a book for beginners. Although, Kullgerg's portraits are beautiful to look at. I feel I haven't seen all the technigues needed to complete a portrait for myself. I think this book would have been helpful if it had guided me more on light.

Summary: If you want to learn, learn FROM the best.
Review: To me this book would be worth the price just for Kullberg's explanation of the technique of "scumbling". Fact is though, her "skin tone color guide" is something that is equally valuable, and well worth the time to construct (she shows how in the book)

I have probably read every book on "how to" paint in colored pencil. This one is the best published to date. Not only is it well done (and "step by step" as the title says) but Kullberg gives examples of not just how to paint drapery, but how to paint the various FABRICS (knits, polished, denim etc) and these are worth studying for one simple reason; Kullberg's portraits are so lifelike that sometimes at first glance you could confuse them with photographs. Her work is absolutely gorgeous. It REALLY gives you a benchmark to shoot for in your own paintings. The challenge of striving for that goal can provide you with a new excitement for your own work. I know this was bound to have been a lot of work for her to put together, but I really hope we see more such books from her in the future !
