Rating: Summary: Good, Better, BEST Review: This is an amazing story that touches one's soul. It CENTERS around Ender Wiggins, a child genuis. The main characterization is of Ender and others are described only in context of how their relationsip affects Ender. Card is not trying for deep characterization of EVERY character mentioned. Instead he fully develops his main character to the point that you have an emotional response to the conflicts he encounters. I don't think that the techies (those who read science fiction primarily for the "science") can fully appreciate this book as they no doubt will be looking for pages and pages describing starship drives, weapons, etc. What this book does have is wonderful character development along with a very well developed plot. Card explores the duality of a child genuis. This book melds the brilliance of a genuis with the innocence and turmoil of a growing child. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys well developed characters and plots, but who isn't necessarily too concerned with all the high tech mumbo jumbo. I've read this book many times; as a teenager and as an adult. This book affected me greatly and really made me stop and THINK. I have read thousands of books throughout my lifetime and am no newbie to the science fiction genre. Without great characterization and plot, a science fiction novel reads like a travel brochure -- pretty pictures of places without any STORY. Thank goodness Card delivers in plenty with this book. Definitely worth five stars and it's own place on the bookshelf.
Rating: Summary: Definitely Read It! Review: Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, is about a young boy in the future who is going to be trained for battle. The action of the book are his adventures at battle school. I loved the book. It was very suspenseful, and it made you feel that you were there. I would suggest this book for ages 8 and up. When I was finished, I liked it so much that I went up to my sister and told her to read it. It is a wonderful science fiction.
Rating: Summary: One of my all-time favorites... Review: As a general rule, I am not a consumer of SF books. I came across this book and decided to "expand my reading" from the typical mystery/thriller category. Boy, was I NOT disappointed! The beauty of this book, for me, was in the simplicity of the storyline: A young boy taken from his family to develop military leadership skills via war simulators. Card fully develops the character, Ender Wiggins, so you can relate to and care about him. But boy does he throw a monkey wrench into the story for an ending. The remaining books in the original trilogy, Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide, were good reads. But to me they pale in comparison to this book. I have purchase but not read Children of the Mind. Ender will forever be one of my all-time favorites. If you liked this book, try Armor by John Steakley.
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: This book is the best book I have ever read! I am only 14 years old and I loved it. My whole family thought that this book was terrific! I have read it twice. Normally I am not a science fiction fan but I loved this book! Buy a copy!
Rating: Summary: I would rate it higher if I could! Review: I have to be honest I have not exactly finished it yet. I just found enough time when I was not reading it to write this report! If you have not read this book, take my advice and READ THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: I can't stop reading it.... Review: WOW! , This is a real trip to another place .If you read to "get away" this is the book for you. I found it very hard to stop reading it, and even harder to pass it sitting on the bookcase. It is scifi at it's very best..
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL Review: Ender's Game is about a young boy trying to excel in the space army. The stroy line starts off right from the beginning with a bang. Everyone should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Awards are for a deeper book than it seems Review: Ender's Game and the three books following it in the Ender Quartet are a shining example of how a protaganist can overcome emotionally and mentally strenuous obstacles. Ender isn't the perfect being, nor is he loved by all, readers included. However, Ender and his peers prove that children are the pinnacle of the human race...no question. Ender, as he ages, encounters new obstacles that are more important than being trained in a battle school and "destroying" an alien race. This is Card's message: Trust in the younger generations and rely on your inner feelings. This is apparent in the three later books which are, in fact, quite better.
Rating: Summary: Start it on a Friday Review: Published almost fifteen years ago to critical acclaim, Ender's Game has clearly found a special place in the hearts and minds of science fiction readers all over the world. I buy this book as a gift for the new friends I make, as I grow older, and they always consider it a special gesture. The only thing more pleasurable than reading Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is giving a copy away to someone who hasn't yet read it. I titled this review "Start it on a Friday," because you probably won't be sleeping the night you begin reading it. If you don't have this book BUY it today, and you won't regret it, I promise you.
