Rating: Summary: Please! Read this book! Review: It doesn't matter who you are, what you usually like, where you live, how old you are, it doesn't matter! You need to read this book. I have a copy and so many of my friends have read it that the binding is falling apart. Every one of them loved it. It is amazing. The plot is incredible. There is a movie coming out with Jake Lloyd Alexander starring as Ender if nothing goes wrong. If you have read this book and liked it ( or loved it) read Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass. Another book on my shelf with almost no binding left. Read them both!!! YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!
Rating: Summary: Fav. book i've ever read!!! Review: I never thought any book under the sci-fi genre could be so engaging. I read it within a day - half a day to be specific - not long before the major tests of the term. Not only was it engaging and interesting, I really could identify with the main character Ender. It addresses issues about life and humanity that I've been thinking about. It's an eye-opener, a life-changing story and I won't ever regret having read it.But I can't garantee that you'll be satisfied after reading the book. it depends on how deeply you choose to look into the story, or whether you look at it at the same level the author was at when he wrote the book.
Rating: Summary: Why All the Bad Reviews? This Book Was the Best Review: Recently I've noticed a sudden increase in reviews that say Ender's Game was "childish, boring, unrealistic, etc." I cannot understand how anyone can say this. Yes, the book was boring for the first ten pages, but after that it was more suspenseful than the best thrillers I've read, and I have, in my short life, read an average of ten books a week, from the time I was five. So, you might say "You read fairy tales for children, didn't you-" but, in my opinion, the books I've read were pretty adultish and well written- can you denounce Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and Le Miserable and all the old time classics as childish? My point is, this book was the best one I've ever read, and I've read a lot, in all genres except romance. And I really doubt that you can find a book better than this in the soggy genre of unrealistic romance! Probably, most of the people who wrote reviews against Ender's Game didn't even read it- are the reviews detailed? For the most part, no. Are they directly pertaining to the book? No. Then did they probably read the book or did they spitefully write the reviews without ever having read the book? Probably the case is the later. I read an review that said "You had to have been in Ender's shoe at least once in your life to have read the book and liked it". Yes, I agree. But, most readers have at least average intelligence- though I can't say that for some of the readers that look for only fast paced books. If you have at least average intelligence, you probably have been in Ender's shoe one time in your life. Although I liked the book all the better, because, for the most part, my life has been a mixture of Ender's and Valentine's and Peter's, I think the average reader can find this book one of the greatest epics of all time.
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome! Review: I can't tell you how relieved I am to finally have read a good book.Although I didn't like surtain parts of it such as the part about Ender playing the computer games and and Peter turning into a life saver. For the most part the book kept you on the edge of the seat. I mean the plot was totally orginal. Earth being invaded and it's only hope is a eleven year old. The author threw a few curves here and there in the story. The suprises were there when I least expected it, and they leaft me in shock. Orson Scott Card writes very well from what I can tell. I plan on reading his other "Ender" books.
Rating: Summary: A GOOD IDEA WITH A BAD AUTHOR Review: THOUGH ORIGIONAL, IT COULD OF BEEN 10 TIMES BETTER THAN WHAT WAS WRITTEN. GOOD IDEA WITH A BAD WRITER......
Rating: Summary: Wake me up when the story arrives .... Review: I realize that absolutely everyone reviewing this book simply loved it. I wanted to love it too, but for the life of me couldn't figure out the attraction. It was not a bad book, but it was by no means a great one, either. Perhaps I don't have a deep enough appreciation for science-fiction. But in my mind, there was very little sci-fi to this tale - it was a military technical manual - nothing more, nothing less. There were a few attempts at humanity with Peter the bad brother and Valentine the good sister, but I couldn't help but think that there are episodes of the Simpsons where Bart and Lisa are more engaging than these two. In the introduction, Card explains how the idea first appeared as a short story in Analog Magazine. Perhaps it should have stayed in that form. But no - that's not the way the publishing world works. Instead we have three sequels and the newest so-called 'companion novel' - essentially the same story told from Bean's point of view. Companion novel?? What's next? Gone with the Wind through the eyes of the Tarleton Twins? Misery through the eyes of Annie Wilke's pet pig??
Rating: Summary: A "You Had To Be There" Book Review: I read ENDER'S GAME several years ago, and I have never forgotten it. I love this book. The reason I only gave it 4 stars, however, was because it's what I'd call a "you had to be there" book. If you look at the negative reviews of ENDER'S GAME, you'll find that most of them say things like "this book is for children", "unrealistic", and "boring". To fully appreciate ENDER'S GAME, you have to have been in Ender Wiggin's shoes at some point in your life. In addition to being a great science fiction book, ENDER'S GAME is a psychological evaluation of the mind of an extremely gifted child. Orson Scott Card delivers a remarkably accurate depiction of the thought processes of such a child. It is often difficult for people to relate to Ender because they have never shared his experiences, and this could cause them to denounce the book in the way many people have on this site. I am not trying to imply that people who do not like ENDER'S GAME are stupid; ENDER'S GAME simply isn't for everyone. However, I completely loved this book, as have most of the people I've talked to. Children recognize themselves in it and adults remember the days. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Kids stuff Review: Not worth the time to read it
Rating: Summary: READ THIS BOOK Review: Ender's Game is one of the best books I've ever read. In fact, several years ago when I read it for the first time I liked it so much that as soon as I finished reading the last page I flipped right back to the beginning and read it again. Recently, I decided to read Speaker for the Dead (the sequel to Ender's Game) it too is a good book, but Ender's Game is easier to identify with. This book won the Hugo and Nebula awards, however, I think that it deserved every other award that books can recieve. I recommend it to everyone, young and old (although I'm not sure what six month olds would get out of it), if you have never read this book you should get yourself a copy and read it
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: This book changed my life. I have read every edition of it, and I have read it in two languages. For every child who has ever felt grown up, and for every adult who longs for their childhood. This is your book.
