weather.i liked this book because i liked the characters they were cool and funny so thats why u sould go check it out!!!!

Review: I really enjoyed reading Holes. As an adult reading a child's book, I really expected a lot and Sachar delivered. Stanley Yelnats was a loveable and funny character who was involved in some unbelievable and exciting situations. The mystery involved in the plot of the book really left me satisfied in the end. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and would recommend it to children and adults. (I gave a copy to my mom too, and she loved it.)

Summary: My Review of HOLES
Review: I really enjoyed reading Holes. Holes won the newbury award in 1998 and now I know why. It was a fantastic book; I could not put it down. I wanted to finish this book so badly that it only took me about half a day to read it (I finished it late at night because I just could not go to bed without knowing how it ended). One of the reasons I liked Holes so much (apart from its plot) was the way that the book kept switching off between three main stories -- two in the past and the main story, in the present. This way, I understood what was "behind the scenes." The main story was about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who went to work at a camp in Texas because he (supposedly) committed a crime. Another story is about Stanley's great-great-grandfather who started a curse that lasted for generations to come. The third story is about the history of the camp at which Stanley is working. But I won't tell you how these three stories are connected. You'll have to figure that out for yourself! Holes is definitely a book on my top 10 list!!!

Review: I really enjoyed reading the book Holes, by Louis Sachar! 10 year-old Stanley Yelnats is cursed with bad luck, ever since his 'no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather' stole Madame Zeroni's pig. Now Stanley is being accused of a crime he did not commit, and is sent to Camp Green Lake to "build his character." Stanley meets other boys at Camp Green Lake, including X-ray, Armpit, Zero, Squid, and BarfBag. These characters each have unique personalities and humorous nicknames that make them seem like real people.
At Camp Green Lake the boys are forced to dig a hole 5 feet wide by 5 feet deep every day, seven days a week. Throughout the book, the boys continue to dig holes, but they do not know why they are digging, or what they are looking for. If they find something that makes the Warden happy, they get the rest of the day off. The dramatic question of what the boys are digging for kept me hooked, and I couldn't put the book down until I found the answer. Holes is written with a very unique and interesting point of view. There are actually two stories woven together into one plot, one taking place in the present, and the other in the past. The main story line takes place in the present day with Stanley and Camp Green Lake. The second story line takes place in the past in the area of Camp Green Lake and involves Stanley's great-great-grandfather, Madame Zeroni, and Kissing Kate Barlow. As the book flips from past to present, many surprise observations can be made. These observations are subtle, but answer the many questions on the reader's mind.
Louis Sachar wonderfully took a complex concept and laid it out in a way that is easily understood by both children and adults. The use of understatement in this book makes the reader use their imagination to put the pieces of the puzzle together, in order to form the exciting outcome of this story. An example of understatement is illustrated in this quote from the end of Holes. "The reader probably still has some questions, but unfortunately, from here on in, the answers tend to be long and tedious. While Mrs. Bell, Stanley's former math teacher, might want to know the percent change in Stanley's weight, the reader probably cares more about the change in Stanley's character and self-confidence. But those changes are subtle and hard to measure. There is no simple answer." Louis Sachar makes the reader use their imagination to determine the outcome of many parts of this story. Everyone who reads this book may have a different concept of what happens in the end, which makes the book more interesting and mysterious.
I think that this book can be enjoyed by all readers, ages 9 and older. The humorous characters are easy to relate to and the complex plot hooks the reader from beginning to end. Teachers could use this book in the classroom, not only in Reading and Language Arts, but it can also be integrated into the Geography of the Texas desert. Also, in Math, this book could be used to calculate various word problems, which involve Stanley and his pals digging holes in the desert. I would use this book in the fourth or fifth grade classroom, because I think the students would really enjoy the great storyline.

Review: I really enjoyed reading the book Holes. It was very interesting and a great story. It was about a camp called Camp Green Lake, which was a place for kids that committed small crimes. It was a lot like a detention center, but when they were there they had to dig holes. They had to dig one hole per day. The amount of time that each kid stayed was determined by what their crime was and how bad. Some of the characters are Stanley, who was the main character. He was tall and chubby and the biggest kid at the camp. Another important character was Zero. He was a little kid that was very quiet. Another character was X-ray, he was the leader of the group. He didn't like Stanley. This was a very good book I would encourage any person of any age to read this.

Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It always left you thinking about what would happen next. There were many different things going on at the same time, keeping you very interested in finishing the book. Once I started reading it, I could not stop. I had to read two Newbery books this summer and happened to pick this one because it was this year's winner of the award. This was the fastest I ever read a book!

Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It talks about Stanley Yelnats and the curse they had on them, all thanks to there "no good pig stealing great great grandfather." One day as he was walking down the street a pare of really famous shoes fell on him. They were stolen and shortly after they had found him with them he was sent to a place called camp green lake all he had to do was dig holes. There a lot of things had happend to stanly, and his life had changed for ever.

Review: I really enjoyed the book Holes because I liked all of the different parts in it. For instance,I liked when it was action packed, when it was sad and when it was suspenseful because I like a combo of different emotions.It was an exciting experience for me.I also liked that Louis Sachar was very creative and made clues up to the climax.Louis Sachar is a great author and I loved Holes.That is why I gave it 5 stars. Holes has it all-- so read it!!!

Review: I really enjoyed this book. I am a girl and thought that this book would be for boys. However, one of the main characters was a women. This women character was in charge of all of the boys in a juvinile camp. It would be nice to be able to tell a group of mean boys what to do. The most interesting part of the book was how the characters were so tied together by their family history. It was full of action and kept me trying to untie all of the hidden parts of the story.

Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was very interesting and suspenseful. The book Holes was about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. His last name is his first name spelled backwards. He is taunted and teased at school because of his size and weight. One day while walking home from school, a pair of shoes fell onto his head. The police caught him and he was accused of stealing the shoes. He went to court and he was sentenced to go to a juvenile boy's camp called Camp Green Lake. Here the boys had a to dig a hole everyday that was 5 feet wide by 5 feet deep. Their shovel was their measuring tool. All the boys at the camp had nicknames. Stanley was named "Caveman". He made friends with a boy named "Zero". "Caveman" helped teach "Zero" how to read and "Zero" helped "Caveman" dig holes faster. I think this book was really exciting and you should buy it.
