Summary: Well-deserved Newberry!
Review: I'm glad I got this book as a gift. Otherwise I don't think I would have bought it. After reading it, I was suprised at how good it actually was. (Now Holes is one of my favorite books) For anyone who has not read Holes, you should!

Summary: Very Misleading Title
Review: I'm in 8th grade, and my aunt recommended this book for me. It's a little below my reading level but any age from 8 years old up would be a great age to enjoy this book. It takes no time at all to get into the book and start enjoying the characters. I have always liked Louis Sachar's strange writing but this book puts him at the top. There is really no way to explain the book in a good way without giving away the surprises and strange conclusions that happen, which in some ways is great fun!

Summary: My book club sure picked a good book!
Review: I'm in a mother-daughter book club who just read "Holes" for the month of May. I found "Holes" to be suspenseful, but yet fun.

Summary: Diggin' holes makes me thirsty!
Review: I'm not going to write much, just that this book was GREAT! Sachar really makes the reader feel like they're right there with Stanley...diggin' them holes! I felt Stanley's anxiety, I felt his thirst (!), and I felt his pain! The plot twists and turns kept me reading (all in one sitting)! I DEFINITELY recommend this book to kids, adults, and adult-kids. 10 stars!!

Summary: Captivating for young and old(er)
Review: I'm not sure that I understand why the marketers have limited this novel by targetting it to adolescents. OK, so it's about children, but then so was 'Lord of the Flies' OK, so I did study 'Lord of the Flies' as an adolescent at school (and hated it). 'Holes' actually made me think of a very grim adult novel that is one of my favourites - 'The Tartar Steppe' by Dino Buzatti. It has the same sort of deprived and remorseless undertaking of apparently futile tasks. But 'The Tartar Steppe' remains remorseless and grim whereas 'Holes' unfolds to a satisfying resolution.

I read this novel after reading a recommendation on a discussion thread. I must now go back to the recommender and say thankyou!

Review: I'm reading holes and it is a very good book. If you stop atone chapter, you'll have to read the next. Camp Greenlake is hard workfor for "Caveman" but he's doing allright. Trust me you'll love this book!

Summary: Holes was great
Review: I'm reviewing the book Holes by Louis Sachar. Stanley is a young boy who was found guilty of a crime that he did not commit. He is sent to boys' juvenile delinquent camp called Camp Green Lake. At Camp Green Lake all the boys have to dig holes to supposedly build character. This is what they are told, but they soon find out there is more to digging the holes than just building character. All the boys treat Stanley badly until they figure out that he is not so different from themselves. Months later, Stanley's best friend runs away and Stanley goes after him. They both embark on a journey that they will never forget. I love this book because it was about sticking to commitments and never giving up.
