Rating: Summary: We must be missing something!!!!!!! Review: My 11-year-old son and I read every night and in late spring we read Holes. We were both excited because we'd heard it was excellent. We both hated it! We found it dark, dreary and depressing. I have read many reviews and heard many comments lauding its circular storyline, but I found the story ridiculous and unappealing. We struggled through to the end and heaved sighs of relief when we finished.
Rating: Summary: stanley's a keeper Review: My 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son loved this book, and so did my wife and I. You get caught up with the falsely accused Stanley and the others at the camp, and seemingly insignificant details become quite significant by the end of the story. A well-plotted and entertaining book, with a good message about the value of persistence and treating others with respect.
Rating: Summary: Holes, from a parent's perspective Review: My 13 year old has talked about this book (I bought it for him about 3 years ago). This is the book everyone in his circle has read. So he convinced me to read it. Now, drop what you might be reading and take this elegant little novel for a spin. Think John Irving perhaps while you do and settle in for a very nice read. If your kids are readers, they probably have already read it, if not, this WILL get their attention. I absolutely love the feeling I get after reading a good book, this is one, read it, and then give it to a kid you like.
Rating: Summary: Way Better than Harry Potter! Review: My 5th grade class I'm in just started reading this book.We have 50 pages to go.Every day when my teacher was going to stop every kid in the class begged and yelled for him to continue. So far, this has benn a super book.I have read most of Harry Potter. This is better than Harry Potter.Harry Pottter just seemed boring to me.But this,it sounded boring, just look at how happy I am now. Some times it was sick, sometimes it was "sweet", sometimes it was scary, sometimes it was sad.All of those words begining with s. It was very sad when Mary Lou(Sam the Onion Man's donkey) was shot and killed when Sam did too.Wonderful.Pure fabulous.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A GREAT BOOK! Review: My 8 year old daughter and I read this book together, and absolutely loved it. It is so funny and has some great lines. We particularly liked "the no good, dirty rotten, pig stealing great, great grandfather" that takes the blame for all of the Yelnats bad luck. This book is a joy to read, and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: My 8th grade students are totally loving this book! It is one of the best novels I have read in a very long time. There are so many plots happening at the same time; one wonders how the author was able to bring them altogether so effortlessly. I am in awe, Mr. Sachar.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book - Wonderful plot and characters Review: My 9 yr old and I read this in two sittings one weekend. We took turns. We particularly liked the way the various incidents in the story came together. It reminds one of Joseph Heller's Catch 22 in its plot complexity. Holes has a nice mixture of humor, action and can be surprising touching - particularly in the character of Zero (who is anything but a zero). Bravo to Mr. Sachar
Rating: Summary: Excellent for all ages Review: My 9-year-old granddaughter enjoyed this book so much. We took turns reading it out loud on a road trip from Colorado to California. She then read it herself and has since shared it with her Mom, one of her Mom's friends, and several kids at school.
Rating: Summary: Lots of holes Review: My book is about some kids that get in trouble so they come to this concentration camp, in the middle of the lake that is dried up. I like this book because it has suspense and it is also funny. Some of the charecters names are Zero, X-Ray, Stanly, Zigzag, The warden, and Mr.Sir.
Rating: Summary: Dig It Review: My book report is on the book Holes. The author of this book is Louis Sacher. I'd give this book five stars because it's never boring. I would recommend this book for ages seven and up. This book is about a kid named Stanley Yelnats who had a choice to either go to Camp Green Lake or jail, because he is accused of stealing Slide Livinston's shoes. He picked Camp Green Lake. The problem in this story is that Stanley had to dig holes, lots of holes in the hot desert. Read this book to see what happens.
