Summary: Great for kids 6 to 100. Rivals Harry Potter!
Review: Well written book about Stanley Yelnats - a boy whose family has been cursed for generations by its ancestor who once "cheated" an old witch out of a pig. My 6-year-old daughter loved every moment (although I did edit out one portion) and so did I. It was exciting, intense, and very, very funny. If an adult book would emerge that was anywhere near as good as either Holes or Harry Potter, what a good reading season it would be. "Where is the second book of the series?" was my daughter's question within a moment of finishing the last page. We are buying more Louis Sachar.

Summary: My Cousin
Review: Well yes I am his cousin. I have never met him before. He is a relative on my dads side of the family. He is like my third cousin or something. Louis if you read this your family from Maryland says hi. You most likely know about my father but not me. This is his daughter Sarah. I am so excited to here about the movie. This is a must read book for anyone.

Summary: What were the Newbery judges thinking?
Review: Well, I, an adult reader, picked it up since it won the Newbery, and I can't imagine why. It's far too contrived and unbelievable to be taken as worthy. Honestly, the last name of Yelnats just to make a palindrome. And coincidence is packed on top of coincidence, descendant after descendant showing up in the story, it's just far too much for an adult to stomach. *Burp!*

Summary: It had them hanging on to every word!
Review: What a mesmerizing read-aloud for my fifth graders! My kids thoroughly enjoyed the tale of friendship and growing up (with a few lessons on morals thrown in) and I delighted in reading it out loud each day these past two weeks. The class voted to eat lunch silently two days in a row in order to hear more, which was a real challenge for those with Doritos! Halfway through--right in Chapter 28--I stopped at the part where Kissin' Kate had a rifle aimed two inches from her nose; I snapped the book shut and pointed to their desks, "Go. Continue the story as you think Louis Sacher did." Amidst grumbles and gasps and even an accusation of child "abuse" of sorts, they churned out great pages which I will send the author. We will finish the last chapter tomorrow after they sketch a favorite scene. I feel like serving raw onions and sunflower seeds for a snack. Where do I go from here?

Summary: Excellent Everything-Bad-Happens-To-Me book!
Review: What a story of a young man who has never had good luck, who has always being in the wrong place at the wrong time (what teen/pre-teen can't identify with Stanley)! The "story-within-a-story" is an interesting relation of past and present, and makes this book one you won't be able to put down.

Summary: Pick up this best seller quickly!!
Review: What an awesome book! I read this amazing book in less than a day. It is the best book with no doubt! This book is about a boy named Stanley. His family has a long history of bad luck! So it's not surprising that he gets sent to a juvenile camp called Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is a punishment camp for misbehaved kids. For punishment each day the kids have to dig holes. The holes must be five feet deep and five feet across. If you don't think that's bad, they don't even have water to drink. The nearest place to get water is over 100 miles away!

As you get deeper and deeper into this brilliant book it seems to get a little bit more peculiar! Weirder and weirder things begin to happen each day. Louis has a great talent for making you want to read more and more, and at the end of each chapter he leaves you with little cliff hangers. That's one of the reasons I love this book. "Holes" is very descriptive, and there is lots of action. Holes is not just like the dog fell in the lake and hit his head. I recommend this book to all ages of people. I also hope you enjoy "Holes" as much as I did!

Summary: Holes Review By J.A.G.
Review: What did I like about Holes? I liked how the warden, Mr. Sir, and Mr. Pendancki got what they had come'n to'em, because of the way they treated the kids that were there, at Camp Green Lake. Stanley lost a lot of weight, and built self confidence for himself. He was also fairly good at solving problems. I like Zereo/ Hector because he wasn't really afraid to do about anything.

Why did I choose this book to be a five-star book? Because I didn't think the book ever got boring. I never thought that stanley and Zero, or any of the kids would find the treasure, or whatever the warden was looking for. Even if they did I thought it would be gold coins or something. I thought it was weird how everybody called Mr. Pendancki mom,"except Stanley." Overall I thought this was a good book, and I really enjoyed reading it.
