Holes is about a young boy named Stanley Yelnats who is unlawfully accused of stealing a pair of shoes who belonged to a famous baseball. Stanley is sent to a type of juvenile facility called Camp Green Lake. Everyday the kids in the place must dig holes five feet deep and five feet in diameter. This may be easy but they have to watch out for tarantulas, lizards, rattlesnakes, and other obstacles.
The reason why they must dig is because the owner wants to look for buried treasure which belonged to a villain called Kissing' Kate Barlow. When they said "If you take a bad boy and make him dig a hole every day in the hot sun, it will turn him into a good boy" I was thinking this is ridicules. Plus Stanley kept on blaming his bad luck on his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather!"
I liked it a lot because it was interesting and adventurous. It kept me reading day and night. I reccomend this book to everybody.

A single shoe started his miserable life, one day when he was just walking on the streets a shoe fell from the sky, and it belonged to the famous baseball player, people thought Stanley stole it, so they accused him, and put him out into Camp Green Lake. This book was a very detailed book. The descriptions for this book made me feel that I was in Camp Green Lake myself. The descriptions of the words really jumped out and grabbed you, and put you in the hot sandy desert of the Camp Green Lake. The details of the book described the sandy, hot desert, and all the time you would be dying for thirst. For example, "His mouth was dry and his throat hurt." "He stepped onto the hard, dry dirt." In this book I didn't dislike anything about it. The descriptions were the best things about the book. One of my favorite parts of the story is when Stanley was digging he found a golden lipstick cap, and engraved on it was the letters KB. He didn't know what it was and why was it in the middle of the desert. If you want to find out read this amazing book. One of my favorite parts is when Stanley found the golden lipstick container, and engraved on it was the mysterious letters KB. That was one of my favorite parts on the book. I really like that part because it was the part that made me jump again, and it let me sustain the reading.

Deep in the heart of Texas, in the middle of the hot desert lies Camp Green Lake. There's no lake at Camp Green Lake, now it's all dried up. Why this lake is dried up, the crazy characters and a secret that is too big to keep hidden flow into this great and zany tale called "Holes". From the author of "Wayside Stories from Wayside School", and " A Boy in the Girl's Bathroom" comes an inspiring tale about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. Stanley's family is under a curse that always gives them bad luck. The reason that they are under this curse is because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig- stealing-great-great grandfather. This is one reason I love this book: it's zany, weird, silly, but it doesn't get off topic or too wild. Like in an ordinary manner this book makes you laugh, and even cry. When Stanley is wrongly accused of a crime, he is sent to a boy's detention center: Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by digging holes, five feet deep, five feet wide. As I said there's no lake at Camp Green Lake, but there are lots of holes. It doesn't take long for Stanley to notice there's more than character improvement going on at camp. The Warden, the lady who runs Camp Green Lake, is definitely looking for something, but what is she looking for? What can be under a dried up lake? Read the book and you are sure to find out. Camp Green Lake is filled with dangerous characters like the warden. Mr. Pendanski, Stanley's consoler or Mr. Sir the warden's minion. The number one rule is: "Don't upset the warden." But that's kind of hard for boys of D-tent who above all thins love trouble. The boys who live with Stanley in Tent-D [Armpit, Zigzag, Magnet, X-ray, Squid, Caveman (Stanley) and Zero] are some of the weirdest kids I've ever seen. Each of the boy's nicknames tell about them and their personalities. My favorite is Zero who is shorter than the rest and never talks. People call him Zero because they say he has nothing in his head, which is not true. This story mixes three parts together at a time. From the story at Camp Green Lake, an old western tale, and the story of Stanley's great-great grandfather, these tales come together into an answer for this jigsaw puzzle of a book. So to find the secret of Camp Green Lake and what will happen to Stanley and his friends, please read this award-winning tale.

By Louis Sachar Do you think Stanley will survive Camp Green Lake? There are rattlesnakes, scorpions and yellow spotted lizards that can bite and kill you. There are also mean councilors and the meanest Mr. Sir. Stanley is a boy who does not steal. He's just an average plain old boy.
I like this book because it is funny and ridiculous with the bite killing yellow spotted lizards. Also Stanley helped a new kid hide under a boat. So... he didn't have to eat nasty dinner, lunch or breakfast.
The main idea is to be good so you don't have to go to Camp Green Lake. If you are good you don't have to blame your dirty- rotten- pig- stealing- great- grandfather. Isn't it nice to always have someone to blame it on? The author has written this book to teach you to be good.

I think "Holes" is a great book, it is really exciting and gets you hooked on reading it. "Holes" is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. Stanley is a boy with really bad luck; he gets blamed for stealing a famous baseball player's shoes and ends up arrested. He has a choice to go to jail or Camp Green Lake, Stanley picks Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is in the middle of a desert. Each day they have to dig a six-foot wide and

Per.1 The Newbery award-winning book Holes, written by Louis Sachar, was a very different book. To be honest, I really didn't enjoy reading the book Holes. Holes was about a boy named Stanley Yelnats in a camp called Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake isn't the best camp you could go to, this camp is like a prison for kids. At camp Green Lake, the boys must dig a whole exactly five feet deep and wide each and every day. At the camp, Stanley gets the nickname "Caveman." Caveman discovers out later in the story that the boys are digging to find something valuable, and not for integrity.
This book Holes written by Louis Sachar didn't meet my interest. This book was very strange and different to me; it was like I was reading a Dear Mr. Henshaw type of book. Dear Mr. Henshaw was one of the strangest books I've read in my whole entire life. I also thought that this book's mystery was like the Westing Game's mystery. The Westing Game was a very confusing book to me. ""I get to sleep in, because it's my birthday." Then a little while later he cut into the breakfast line, just in front of Squid." The boys in this book have a mind of their own.
I usually like strange and different books, but this one just went overboard. The book Holes is like three stories in one. The first story talks about Stanley Yelnats, the second story talks about Miss Katherine Barlow, and the third story talks about a heredity mystery. One example could be, "Even if there was, Katherine and Sam wouldn't have noticed. They were lost in their own world." This could be an example of the second story in this book.
This book was ok, but my least favorite part of the book was when some agents were seeing how smart a boy named Zero was. Zero's real name was Harold, but people called him Zero because he was very excellent at math. The only experience in reading Zero had, was a lesson by Stanley Yelnats. The agents spelled out words for Zero, so Zero could say them out loud. Zero got the first two words cat and fat, but he couldn't get the third word hat. All of the agents made fun of Zero, so Zero ran away. I didn't like this part because all the agents were making fun of him even though Zero only had one lesson from Stanley Yelnats. The book Holes, written by Louis Sachar, was the strangest book I've ever read.

Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse began with his great-great-grandfather known to be a thief, and the curse followed to Stanley. Stanley Yelnats is a boy who has been sent to Camp Green Lake because he was accused of stealing shoes. Camp Green Lake was a camp that made bad boys dig one big hole everyday, five feet wide and five feet deep. The warden of the camp was searching for a treasure that was buried over a hundred years ago and not found since then. Stanley had to dig holes along with the rest of the kids. He made friends there named X-rays, Barf Bag, Zero, and Squid. One of his closest friends, Zero, decided to runaway one day because he did not want to dig anymore holes. Stanley runs away to find him because Zero had no water of food to survive. Stanley found Zero and they survive by going to the Big Thumb. There, Stanley realizes where the treasure might be at. They come back to camp secretly and dig. Stanley and Zero finally find the treasure. All the people were surprised that they were still alive, and they found what the warden wanted to have, but the treasure box was not the warden¡¯s property. It was Stanley¡¯s because it had his name on it. It belonged to Stanley¡¯s great great grandfather. Stanley¡¯s lawyer came and took Stanley and Zero home. The story ended with Stanley¡¯s family curse broken by Stanley by finding the treasure. Camp Green Lake was closed down for good. I like this book because I think a good book allows the reader to feel like they want to know more and want to know what is going to happen next. This is how I felt as I read the book. I couldn¡¯t put the book down. Zero left the camp without water and food. ¡°Stanley looked out toward Zero, but he had disappeared into the haze.¡± When I read this, I was anxious to know what happened next because it was impossible to survive in the heat without water and food. Stanley was worried about what was going to happen to Zero, so he ran after him. He knew that Zero could not survive in the desert alone. This part of the story was exciting, which I liked about this book. It kept making me wonder what will happen next. I wanted to know if Stanley and Zero will survive.
Another reason why I like this book is because this book also talks about people from the past. Stanley¡¯s great great grandfather¡¯s story is told. During that time, there was a woman named Kate Barlow who was the prettiest girl in town. Many men liked her, but she liked a poor worker named Sam. She loved him, but he was so poor. Sam they decided to leave the town together. When they were leaving, someone saw them and killed Sam. After that, Kate became a thief. ¡°That was what his great grandfather had supposedly said after Kate Barlow had robbed him and left him stranded in the desert.¡± She was the one that stole from Stanley¡¯s great great grandfather which tied the story to Stanley¡¯s time because the warden was looking for that lost treasure that Kate had stolen. This interesting plot of how history plays a role in the present is why I liked this book so much.
There are many parts in this book that I like. My favorite part of the book was the story of Stanley and Zero¡¯s friendship. Stanley and Zero¡¯s friendship was the best. When Stanley and Zero ran away, they had no hope of surviving because they had no food or water, but they gave each other the strength to go on. They told each other, ¡°Don¡¯t give up.¡± They eventually found Big Thumb, where they found water and food to survive for a few days. They were each other¡¯s support during hard times. Stanley even risked his life to go search for Zero when he ran away. I thought that their friendship was a memorable part of this book that is why this is my favorite part.

Period 1 The book Holes is about a young boy named Stanley Yelnats that was sent to Camp Green Lake because he was accused of doing something bad. This camp is not green and doesnt have a lake. It is a flat land that is extremely hot. At camp the boys would have to dig holes 5 feet thick and 5 feet wide. The warden is looking for something so that is why the boys are sent to dig holes. There at the camp, they all have nicknames such as armpit, zero, zigzag, x-ray, squid, magnet, and caveman which is Stanleys nickname. Stanley Yelnats thinks that he is under his curse because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. After all the days of digging under the hot sun, Stanley and his friend zero decide to sneak out. They suffer greatly when this happens because they have no source of water especially since their under the hot sun. When they get caught, they get in big trouble.
I liked this book because it was really adventorous. It makes you want to continue to read because you want to find out what Stanley and Zero does next when their away. A reason why i dislike this book is because sometimes it becomes confusing. The story goes back and forth between Stanley at Camp Green Lake, and the past. You have to make sure you read every line because if you miss one line you may be confused because it may be at a different time period and you wouldn't know. This book became very confusing at some points.
The favorite part about this book is that they made nicknames for each person. I think nicknames are a fun way to tell about peoples attitude and what their like. One of the funest nickaname that i thought was funny was Stanley's great great grandfather. The name is so funny and it everytime i read the name it makes me laugh.

Period: 6 Holes is a very good book by Louis Sacher.It is about a boy named Stanly Yelnats who is convicted of a crime that he did not commit.(He stole a pair of shoes.Clyde Livingston's shoes to be exact.)So he has two choices: he can either go to jail, or he can attend Camp Green Lake.If just by haring the name, you think that Cap Green Lake actually has a lake, then you're wrong. Camp Green Lake is a boys' detention center in the middle of nowhere. There, the boys'must dig holes.One hole per day, and the hole must be exactly 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep.What the boy' do not know is that the 'Warden' is looking for a treasure there because a long time ago, there actually was a lake there. Consequently, she has the boys to dig holes for her. Some of Stanley's friends have weird nicknames. For example:Armpit, Zigzag, Squid,X-Ray,Magnet,and Zero.Their real names are:Theodore,Ricky,Alan,Rex,Jose, and Hector.The weird thing about Hector is that his last name is Zeroni,the very man that Stanley's great-grandfather was looking for when he got to the United States.
My favorite part of the book is the end when Stanley,now dubbed 'Caveman', and Zero excape from the camp and they accidentally find the treasure that the Warden was looking for. When the Warden finds Zero and Caveman, there are a bunch of yellow-spotted lizards, which are very poisonous. The treasure that they found belonged to Stanley's great- grandfather who was robbed by the outlaw Katherine Barlow, otherwise known as Kissin' Kate Barlow.She is called Kissin' Kate Barlow because she first shoots the person, then she kisses them.In the end, both Stanley adn Zero get to leave Camp Green Lake. They also get to meet Clyde Livingston, the man who Stanley,supposedly stole the shoes from.(Zero was the one who really stole the shoes.)This is a really, really good book. Those of you who haven't read it,I advise you to go get a copy.

Review: Holes Have you ever heard of the writer Louis Sachar? If so, you probably read or heard of Johnnys in the basement, Someday Angeline or There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom. The best book written by Louis in my opinion is Holes! Holes has got in many of awards like the National Book Award. Louis's writing is made for people 10 and up. I have seen middle school kids and high school kids reading the book Holes. His writing style is very easy to understand. The dialogue is wonderful, very easy so comprehend. When you start to read the book, you start building relationships with characters. There likes and there dislikes, what their favorite thing, or color is. As for the setting Louis has mastered that too. He is very descriptive in his work. It gives you a lot of imagery when your reading. So now that you know a little about Louis's work lets talk about Holes.
Stanley Yelnats was sent to camp Green Lake because of some curse. The Yelnats think it is because of his no-good-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Who forgot to carry Madame Zeroni up the mountain. Stanley and his family didn't have a lot of money. They lived in an apartment which smelt like stinky feet. The smell came from his father who was on the verge on end the smell of bad foot odor. Stanley was a fat kid who didn't have a lot of friend. So when he was sent to Camp Green Lake, he hoped his look would change. Stanley was put into D-tent, the first day he got off to a bad start. They say the first hole was the hardest and they where right. Stanley soon got use to the digging, he once found a fossil. The next day he found a Golden Bullet or so he thought. Zero his best friend ran away because he could not take it anymore. Stanley was really sad because Camp Green Lake is a desert, so there was no way for Zero to survive. Late that week Stanley goes and run away in search for Zero. He later finds him underneath a boat. Now you are wondering how can there be a boat. Well Green Lake use to be a Lake and a Town. Many people lived there, Sam the African American who sells sweet onions. Ms. Katherine is the white teacher in the school house. Sam and Katherine fell in love and kiss. Back in the day that was not allowed so Sam was killed. Ever since then it has not rained, so Green Lake dried up and everyone moved away. As for Ms. Katherine she was known as Kissing Kate Barlow. Kate robbed everyone and every bank including Stanleys Great Grandfather she left him stranded in the desert they say he found refuge on gods thumb..So back to Stanley and Zero they saw Gods Thumb and decided to climb up, they finally made it and on top they found sweet onions. So a couple days past and Stanley was feeling pretty lucky. He wanted to dig one more hole, to see if they could find where Kissing Kate Barlows money,
Did they find the money? Did Stanley become a millionaire? Did Stanley make it back to Camp Green Lake Safely? Well I'm sorry but I can not tell you. You need to read the book. It is one of my favorites and I hope it is yours too.
