Summary: A True "Summer Read"!
Review: The Beach House is a book I found to be entertaining, fast-paced, and very difficult to put down; and worthy of a 3 1/2 stars if [it was] allowed such a rating. I'm still trying to figure out why I feel this way overall since the plot, while interesting, is very far-fetched, the characters are superficial, the dialog is often poorly written, the love interest isn't very interesting and the ending is fairly predictable. I find this dichotomy to be characteristic of many of Patterson's books, although The Beach House is better than his other (non-Alex Cross) books. If you're looking for a light read for the beach or when traveling on vacation, one that will hold your attention throughout without making you think too much (if at all), this book should satisfy your needs. However, if you're looking for anything more than an entertaining story, try something else.

Summary: Simply Outstanding
Review: Not a "classic" Patterson but an outstanding read that I would recommend to anyone.

Summary: The Beach House, by James Patterson
Review: I thought this was an EXCELLENT book. I liked the short chapters, he didn't drag things out which was great about the book, it kept my interest totally. I was sorry for it to come to an end.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Entertaining, Fast read
Review: This wasn't your typical Patterson novel, but it was well written. It is action packed, and full of surprises.

Summary: Who's impersonating James Patterson?
Review: It starts at a great pace with Peter "Rabbit" Mullen on his trendy new motorcycle on the way to the party of all parties at a $45 million Hamptons beach house. A brisk first person narrative captures Peter's free spirit and the opulence that surrounds him. He's not a guest but a valet parker who gets a perfumed note proposing a secret beach rendezvous. Peter describes his rush of anticipation then how he's ambushed and beaten to death.

From here it goes straight downhill. Older brother Jack, a Columbia Law student interning at a big time NY law firm, becomes the new narrator. A mixture of conspiracy, intimidation and cover up culminates when Peter's death is declared a drowning at an unlikely public inquest.

From time to time the authors awkwardly interrupt Jack's narrative to introduce scenes he could not be part of. First we get the Fixer, an intimidator / hitman hired to scare off anyone who thinks Peter's death was murder. Then the Fixer gets to Sammy the gay hairdresser, and a window on the darker side of Peter's life opens up.

Patterson's moral is that the system is corrupt and evil but vigilante justice is good. Jack and his friends swing into action with a totally absurd plan to bring the murderers to justice.

Stick with Alex Cross or the Number Books, but forget this airheaded nonsense!

Summary: No Second Chance for Beach Bum
Review: Sorry, but after reading JP's Second Chance and before that, DRIVEN, by W. G. Griffiths, everything else seems a bit light duty. Beach House makes me wonder if it was Patterson or his employees who wrote it. A fast read, but probably a fast write as well.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not James Patterson's best
Review: I was somewhat disappointed by this book. I, like many other readers, have read EVERYTHING written by James Patterson, but was disappointed with this novel. The best part of the book to me was the surprise ending. After reading "2nd Chance" and "Beach House", I think JP should remain a solo author--why try to perfect what's already PERFECT. However, still and all, the book follows his trademark of an easy read, large print and short chapters. I'm still a diehard fan!

Summary: No real depth.
Review: I am a James Patterson fan and have read every one of his books. Unfortunately, this one isn't one I would recommend reading. There are too many characters thrown out all at once, and it's hard to keep track of who's who.

His books usually flow and have lots of twists and turns, this one did not. I found myself reading it only because I was hoping it was going to surprise me in some way with an amazing twist.

I hope his next one is better!

Summary: I was had!
Review: What a disappointment. I feel I have been taken. This book was thrown together and sloppily at that. The kangaroo trial was a farce. One major error: describing an execution using hydrochloride for the lethal injection. POTASSIUM chloride is used instead. Also resent 111 chapters and 5 parts surrounded by empty and blank pages amounting to about 100 pages. Add that to a large font with extra space between lines convinces me I have been taken, but good. Only good thing is that I have decided never to buy one of his books again.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Average effort by Patterson/DeJonge
Review: I've read all Patterson's work - this is average work, but those darn short chapters just kept me plugging along until - suddenly - the book was done in two sittings. It is a summer read - plain and simple.
