Summary: A damaged justice system
Review: This novel deals with the seamy side of the nouveau riche and the dual justice system, i.e., higher priced attorneys and all the witnesses money can buy for the rich, contrasted with public defenders and execution of the poor (see Bernard Cornwell's "Gallows Thief" for a novel set in an earlier time period). When a young parking attendent at a posh private party is found dead on the beach, there is a strong effort by powerful people to sweep everything under the rug. There are unanswered questions about motives and circumstances of the death.

The brother of the deceased is a law student working as a summer associate at a New York City law firm. He returns to the family's Long Island home, and gathers support from his childhood friends. It becomes a battle between the townies and the rich summer resident who appears to be implicated in the death. The rich man has a shady past and some evil strong-arm associates who can intimidate witnesses, or even make them disappear.

Money talks, and efforts are brought to bear to quash the case. The backlash creates a determination to punish evil and the investigation continues as the balance swings back and forth between the bad guys and the good guys. The wheels of justice grind slowly, but they grind very, very fine. The investigation reveals many surprises and some sordid relationships. Like the earlier novel by G. M. Ford, "The Deader the Better," this novel has a corrupt law enforcement officer and public exposure of villains.

The novel has strong sexual content and violence. Parental discretion is advised.

Summary: over-hyped
Review: This book seems to have gained popularity only because of the setting in the Hamptons. It reads like it was written for a tv movie. Wait for paperback.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a fascinating read
Review: Don't tell my boss, but I couldn't put this book down, even while I was at work. Typical James Patterson. Looking forward to the next read.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Very Predictable
Review: I found this very good, however within the 2nd chapter, any ideas on "Who dunnit" and "Who will end up marrying whom" were too obvious.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: James Patterson is NOT John Grisham
Review: But he tries to be in this book. It doesn't work. The usual twist and grabbers aren't there, the "courtroom" seen is fine, but it dosen't keep you at the edge of your seat like most of his writings. Either wait for the paperback or get it from the library.

Summary: Will the real James Patterson please stand up?!!
Review: I have read every book James Patterson has written and thoroughly enjoyed each one. That's why I was so surprised with Beach House. The print was large with lots of space between lines--and plenty of end of chapter pages with just three lines. Has Patterson joined the league of other writers who after writing may best sellers, just write books to fulfill their contract? I hope not.
If you want a very fast read with one-dimensional characters and a non-plausible plot and ending--then this book is for you.

Summary: Beach House
Review: Was very disappointed in this book. I have read all of James Patterson's books and look forward to his next one. I felt this book was very boring and slow moving.

Summary: Can't wait to finish it!
Review: I just have to say that I have never read James Patterson, but I am truly enjoying this book and only have about 100 pages to go. Can't wait to find out what happens!

Summary: Yes!! James Patterson is back and better than ever!!
Review: Wow! I am a H U G E James Patterson fan, but have been dissapointed with his last few books, and am sad to admit, I did'nt have high hopes for this one, butI still HAD to have it ASAP! Once I got it, still not expecting to be thrilled, I let it sit around a day or two, while I read something else. Then, once I finally picked it up and began reading, I was hooked!! In less than 48 hours, I had devoured the book from cover to cover!! While the ending WAS a bit far-fetched and a little odd, it was still incredible. The action never stops and you really feel for the characters!! Overall, a great book! So read it!

Summary: I GIVE UP!
Review: THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE LAST JAMES PATTERSON BOOK ON WHICH I WASTE MY MONEY!! WITH ONE EXCEPTION, HIS RECENT EFFORTS HAVE BECOME DULL, UNBELIEVABLE AND BORING. IF HE DIDN'T PUMP THEM OUT AT SUCH A FAST CLIP, PERHAPS HE COULD DO A BETTER JOB, BUT, THEN, HIS BOTTOM LINE WOULD SUFFER. NOW, WE DO THE SUFFERING...AND PAY FOR IT!
