Summary: I Know Wally Lamb Rules
Review: Wally Lamb rules! First came the brilliant "She's Come Undone," and now "I Know This Much Is True," which is the most satisfying, glorious novel I have read in a long time -- and I read dozens every year. The story...gripping. The characters...multi-dimensional and exquisitely rendered. The writing...masterful. This is, in my opinion, a perfect novel that not only was engrossingly entertaining, it touched my heart like no other novel has in a long-LONG time...

Summary: Glad I bought it
Review: I had read "She's Come Undone" and really loved it. I wanted to read more by Wally Lamb, but was taken aback by the sheer size of this book. I picked it up and put it back down on no less than a dozen occassions because the length of the book was so daunting. After several "near misses" I finally decided to give it a go because the premise seemed so interesting. Boy, am I glad I did!

The story of brotherly love in this case is complicated by the feelings of guilt (why was I the lucky one?) and shame (he is such an embarassment) and even more shame (how could I be ashamed of my own brother?).

All in all, a very emotional and touching tale. Despite my initial concerns about its length, I had a hard time putting this one down until I had read the very last word. An excellent book and not one page too long. Wally Lamb, more please!

Summary: Outstanding
Review: One of the best books I have ever ever read - enthalling!
It was hard to believe this is a work of fiction - the characters were so real, the storyline was riveting.

Summary: Long Wind Up, Everything crammed into the end
Review: I picked up this book because of the picture of the twins on the front cover. Having twins, I was intrigued. However, the book was a very big dissapointment. It seemed like the first 90% of the book was long, drawn out, day-to-day descriptions and the author wrapped everything up in the last 10%. It's almost like he realized that he had to hurry up and finish the book. The storyline was a little far fetched as well. The author could have condensed the book into half its size and kept the story the same.

Summary: Best book ever!
Review: I can't even begin to adequately describe how much I enjoyed this book. First of all, I love to read so long books are something to look forward to. I started it because the first few lines mention what one of the characters does in a public library and I work in a public library and I was curious about what happened. I continued to read the book because the characters were so well-drawn, I felt as though I knew them. Dominick's relationship with his brother and mother, his brother's relationship with their step-father were described so well. I recommend this book to anyone who asks if I know something good to read and every person who takes the time to read it has come back to tell me they loved it. I can hardly wait for Wally Lamb's new book even though I don't see how he can top this one.

Summary: unbelievable
Review: Anyone who looked at this book and said to themselves "Well, it looks good...but it's way too long!!" needs to go back and take a second look. The length is actually a positive factor in this candid and sensitive novel. So many subjects are dealt with that I am surprised it wasn't longer than 900 pages! The issue of mental health is handled with care, and the story is quite compelling to read. I am in awe of Mr. Lamb.

Summary: Loved this book
Review: Reading is not one of my favorite pastimes, but I loved this book and read it in a weekend. The length almost scared me off, but once I started I couldn't stop. I went to the library and borrowed, "She's Come Undone", and read that the following weekend.

Summary: Entertaining but Long and Short on Insight
Review: This was not a bad book but I don't think I would read it over again if I had the decision to make again. The opportunity cost is high with a book this size and it just did provide the returns that I would have hoped for. That said there were plenty of virtues to the book. The writing style is very easy reading, alot of thought and research clearly went into the book, and the protagonist, Dominick Birdsey is a very likeable character. Lamb clearly read alot about twins and schizophrenia which is nice. I just feel like it was 900 plus pages of entertainment, interesting scenes, but that there was a lack of wisdom for a book titled "I Know This Much is True". I was pretty un-impressed with the truths Dominick tells us that he come to know on the last page of the book (forgiveness, mongrels and a higher power). Another criticism is that there is too much sickness in this book. Thomas cuts off his hand, Joy (Dominick's girlfriend for most of the story) is a sicko who ate this man's skin and fingernail clippings, lets this same man watch Dominick and her make love and ends up getting AIDS and dying. I like Dominick's search for understanding, for that crucial understanding; his digging into his past, his reading his grandfather's manuscript. So I give it three stars.

Summary: Difficult but worth it
Review: This book was a hard read, i had to make myself a promise that i couldn't read anything else until i finished this one or i wouldve stopped half way to the end, but once you get into it i can only say that no praise is high enough to describe this story.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: DIFFICULT READ
Review: It took me a long time to get through this book. It was so interesting, but the back and forth from past to present got in the way, as well as the intense story.

I couldn't read it all the way through. I had to throw a lighter book in when I got bogged down. But was glad when I went back and finished it.

The story however was excellent, and explained a lot about schizophrenia from a new viewpoint.
