Rating: Summary: Bravo! Review: A superb book, I must say, even thought I have only read to about a quarter of the book. It has this thing that catches you with sadness, and some sort of sympathy for a boy with schizophrenia. A very clear, albeit surreal insight of the most inexplicable mental disorder, and the sweetness it will end with the brother believing in Christ. Very touching, a must read
Rating: Summary: A book you won't forget...READ THIS BOOK! Review: This book grabbed me, pulled me in and made me a part of the story. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I loved the way Lamb used stories within stories. This isn't just a book about mental illness, it's a book about life. I felt rather empty when I finished the book... not because it wasn't a great read, but because the journey was over.
Rating: Summary: I am loving this book Review: I notice in previous reviews that some readers did not like the abridged tapes of the book. It is my experience that abridgement is a total no-no if you want to "get" the essence of the book. I gave this a try with "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil" - the abridged version was nothing like the book and I thought that was tragic for the reader and the (wonderful) writer - so misleading and such a waste of time.If you want to hear "I Know This Much Is True" in a really fabulous production, get it from your library or the catalogue of Recorded Books, Inc. - they do the best job of reading books, I have found. It is a 900 page book and for anyone like myself, a writer with a lot of material/research I have to wade through, listening can often be the answer. But whatever you do - avoid abridged books on tape. They rarely satisfy.
Rating: Summary: I agreed with every other 1, 2 and 3 star rating listed! Review: The novel was long-winded, foul-mouthed and downright depressing. While it obviously had appeal to those who gave it 4 or 5 star reviews, I found no beauty or depth in the characters, plot or writing style. Mr. Lamb obviously sought to shock his readers throughout the novel, but with street-language and sexual references that would only entertain an adolescent with raging hormones.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK AND HIGHLY RECOMEND IT! Review: I was looking for a good long read at the end of summer and found it Wally Lamb's amazing book. I was drawn to the cover and didn't waste a minute diving in. Once inside I couldn't get enough. When I didn't have time to read, I thought about the characters and wondered how they were doing. This man has an amazing way with words and drawing you into the lives of his characters. I'm now reading She's Come Undone.. its also very good but I can't praise I Know This Much Is True enough. Don't let the huge size scare you.. it's worth every tree it took to print.
Rating: Summary: Could not proceed after one fourth of the book. Review: I bought this book because of the subject matter, thinking it could be fascinating and if I could have gotten past the terrible language and the taking of diety's name in vain every sentence, I might have found some merit. Why could'nt the author just have told the story without the garbage. This book is going in the trash. Sorry.
Rating: Summary: Great book but not for those looking for a light read. Review: At times this book will make you cry, laugh or both, but this emotionally draining novel is not for the fainthearted. The length of this book may disuade some from attempting its 900 pages but it's well worth the effort. Lost a star for its 'comfortable' ending.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fabulous ! Review: This was the best book I have ever read. I felt like I lost a family member when I finished the book because I became so caught up in the characters. You cannot put this book down once you start- it is so touching . I highy recommend this book to anyone who loves a great family story!
Rating: Summary: Beware: This book will change your life! Review: Lessons about life, forgiveness, understanding, life, human beings, honesty, respect, love, and many other emotions are magnificently combined into one, absolutely amazing novel.
Rating: Summary: Most psychologically gut-wrenching read I've ever had. Review: Wally Lamb's I Know This Much Is True is the first book I have ever read that brought forth such intense waves of emotion. Anyone struggling with who they are or who they've been should read this book. It will give the reader a sense of hope.
