Summary: Simply the best...
Review: In this book Wally Lamb manages to connect to the heart of humanity in a way that leaves no reader out. It is profoundly moving. There is a core of emotion that is passed along to the reader that can't fail to touch even the toughest heart. Use this book as a catharsis for all that is blocked in your own heart. Five stars isn't enough for this masterpiece. It made me want to move to his town and spend my days at the end of his street telling passersby, "For heaven's sake be quiet - he's writing!" Write fast, Wally - we're waiting.

Summary: AMAZING
Review: This book is almost nine hundred pages and i had absolutely no problem reading it and couldn't put it down in the three days it took me to read it. This book is awesome. The author some how draws you into Dominick's world with no turning back. Just when you think you know whats going to happen he gives you something completely different and it all ties together to make one of the best, if not the best book I've ever read. I've read both of this authors works and loved them both. I think this is the better of the two although the first one SHE'S COME UNDONE is almost just as good. I CAN'T WAIT 'till his next work comes out.

Summary: true to life
Review: to the people who dubbed this book unrealistic-- I ask you: have you ever come close to witnessing what, exactly, schizophrenia is? I have-- I wrote my thesis on it, and this book is anything but unbelievable. Thomas may not be typical, but what would anyone describe as a typical schizophrenic? Lamb is truly a gifted writer, and can illustrate the horrifying nature of this disease while telling it to us in an intresting way. Not easilly done, in my opinion. Dominick is written so well, it's scary. The emotions he feels, both as an identical twin, and as the "sane" brother of one who is seriously unwell are bang on, and very consistant, in my opinion, with real life. I still think SHE'S COME UNDONE was the best book I've ever read, but this runs a close second. Mr. Lamb, do not delay in putting out another brilliant novel.

Summary: EXCELLENT!
Review: This book touched me in a way that no other book ever has. As somebody who has struggled to deal with schizofrenia in my own family, this book gave me great insight. Thank you Wally Lamb! I was saddened at the quick wrap-it-up ending. It seemed Mr. Lamb realized the book was getting long, and just cut it short. In the future, know that your readers have more patience. As for those who complain about the cursing, this is the real world! People curse; we're all adults--I think. The best book I've ever read!

Summary: I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE, ITS A GREAT BOOK
Review: I HEARD A LOT ABOUT THIS BOOK AND I HAD READ SHES COME UNDONE SO I GOT THIS ONE. I WAS INTIMIDATED AT FIRST BECAUSE IT WAS SO LONG, BUT I GOT HOOKED WITHIN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN.THE CHARACTERS ARE SO REAL AND LIKABLE (IT TAKES A WHILE FOR SOME). I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Summary: I did not want this book to end.
Review: The way that Lamb twists and manipulates words drew me into this book more than any I have read before or since. I cried at the end simply because I knew I would have to leave the world that Lamb had drawn me into so deeply.

Summary: This is one of the best books I have ever read.
Review: I never wanted to put this book down. It is amazing how quickly 900 pages can be read. For the first three hundred pages, I thought that this book was an autobiography. The story is so real, and the characters so complex that it is absolutely amazing that someone can make this stuff up. I couldn't get over this book, I still can't stop thinking about it. I hope everyone gets a chance to sit down for a couple days and dive into this remarkable story.

Summary: A very well written account of painful topics
Review: I can only guess that the reviewers who panned this book did so mainly due to the highly-charged topics it covered. (One reviewer took pot shots at the other reviewers. Why?)

The book was painful in many respects, and it should have been. However, I found the writing to be excellent; on-the-mark, and very real. It might be that Dominick and I are about the same age and experienced the same cultural, political and social histories; it might be that I had Sicilian grandparents (though all my family is/was most loving.) I also write, however, and I remember on several occasions being brought up short by Lamb's choice of words or phrasing; a couple of times I nearly gasped at his descriptions.

It is a bit long; Papa's memoirs took a while to engage me, but that they did, and I found those adventures charming, fully plausible, and entertaining in their own way.

All in all, it ranks among the best I've read.

Summary: a bit too long...most interesting was the Grandfather's life
Review: Had to read for my book club. A little too long and a little too contrived. The ending was very neatly sewn up with all the parties coming out ahead emotioinally and financially. Maybe too neat of a tie up of loose ends to ring true or at least believable and it lost my sympathy for the narrator. Don't know why, but I had a tough time staying with it. Kept putting it down when it dragged but still was happy to pick it up again. My fellow club members liked it for the most part.

Summary: Superb
Review: Beyond engaging ... I couldn't put this book down. The complexity of the characters allowed me to feel such an unbelievable range of emotions ... I liked them, I hated them, I judged them and I empathized with them ... One of the best books I have read in a long time .. Waiting for your next book Mr. Lamb ..
