Rating: Summary: Simply stated, the best book I have ever read. Review: I read it in three days time. I could not put it down
Rating: Summary: Badly in need of editing. Review: Tempted by the wonderful memories of Lamb's first book, "She's Come Undone", I dove into this needlessly thick second book. The main character was a rambling loser, which could have been interesting. Instead, I kept wishing he would gain some insight, or say something clever, or perhaps die. Rather, there was a great deal of cluttering free association and meaningless chit chat.
Rating: Summary: This book was fantastic, but the ending was disappointing. Review: I truly enjoyed this book even though I do not watch Oprah. I enjoyed the entire book until the end. I was very disappointed at all the effort put forth by Wally Lamb to let you get to know these characters and then to sum it all up like a Disney movie. I would have preferred to read another 900 pages than to have everything tied up so "happily ever afterish". I felt robbed of all the time I put into reading this book when it all ended so neatly. I did however thoroughly enjoy the first 850 pages. I think it was one of the best books I've read in a while.
Rating: Summary: life as a circle Review: We are continually reminded, throughout life, of the universal values that effect daily life. "I know this much is true" truly reflects the values of many different people and therefore can truly impact anyone who takes the time to devour this soon-to-be timeless classic.
Rating: Summary: Just half way through, it's the best fiction I've ever read Review: I received the book as a Christmas gift, having a twin, my older sister had loved it and thought it would have special meaning. (though my twin is not schizophrenic!). I'm not a big fiction reader, I'll get half way through a book, hit a boring part, and never pick it back up. I've read over 400 pages and it hasn't happened yet. It's moving, entertaining and I can't wait to get back to it. I'm looking forward to his next!
Rating: Summary: The most incredible tome of the 20th century. Review: Pages flipped by as quickly as Dominick's years. Wally Lamb's truest talents are mirrored in this novel as Thomas' trueness is mirrored in Dominick. This is destined to be a classic. Lamb has outdone himself again reflecting this time on AIDS, abuse, rape, pyschosis, racism, suicide, homosexuality, SIDS as well as everyday turmoil.
Rating: Summary: Well written, inspiring, and heart touching Review: This novel was well written and inspiring. It kept the reader interested and on the edge. I thought I could never read a novel this long in such a short period of time but I surprised myself. Hats off !!
Rating: Summary: Life really is this strange. Review: It takes a truly good writer to depict the lives of such varied characters without it becoming caricature. Having been amazed at Lamb's ability to write in a woman's voice in She's Come Undone, I am again humbled by his ability to assume the character of Grandfather Tempesta, the desperate, pregnant and post-HIV positive Joy, Dominic himself, and others. I am tempted, however, to question the too neat tying up of the loose ends (remarrying Dessa, Tyff as Angela, the money, and the domestic violence shelter named after Mom). Having said that, however, I think Wally Lamb is a stellar writer, and a person who, obviously, truly feels life. Fabulous book, and a great friend to me for the time it took to read it. Thank you, Wally.
Rating: Summary: Best book I read in years. Review: Fabulous, fabulous book. Couldn't put it down and was sorry to see it come to an end.
Rating: Summary: I wanted the story to go on forever Review: I became so intrigued by the characters and the way that Lamb painted them that I didn't want it to end.
