Summary: still reading it!
Review: I began to read the Little House series when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and re-read each book about every other year or so. Laura's age is reflected in the tone of each one, especially in "Big Woods". You can't help falling in love with the Ingalls family as you follow them through the 20 years or so chronicled by Laura. This has always been one of my favorites, and I would recommend it to children who love adventure or history in particular and all children in general.

Summary: Unexpected delight
Review: This book (LHITBW) unexpectedly inspired me while reading it to my daughter. As a father and a history buff, I enjoyed the descriptions of the times and struggles that the family faced. Last Saturday (8-1-98)we traveled to Pepin and came face to face with the land that Laura described. Standing on her family's property in the replica log cabin of today one can imagine that the stands of today's corn and soybeans were once the "Big Woods". Its not much of a stretch to see Laura and Mary playing outside. Laura will forever be a playful 5 to 10 years old in my mind. Laura Ingall's Wilder has captured the innocence of youth, the dramatic events of everyday life and the toils of family.

Summary: A wonderful story for any age to read.
Review: Little House in the Big Woods is the story of Laura and her family and how life was for them in their log cabin deep in the woods. Laura talks about Chirstmas time when all her cousins come, the dances, and all the hardwork that must be done to ensure survival in the wintertime. But most of all, Laura talks about those cold winter night when Pa tells the girls stories of his adventures in the woods and when he plays sweet songs from his fiddle. Little House in the Big Woods is truely a good-family tale.

Summary: Learn about history while reading a great story!
Review: I would recommend this book to kids ages 7-100. I will still love it when I'm older and I'm only 8! This book is full of funny stories, history, and stuff you really never knew. The story moved along very quickly so I never got bored. I can't wait to read her next book.

Review: It focses on the past and what there life was like. It is a real good child book. If you like this one you should read the others. Because the others are good too! The best order to read them is: 1st Little House in the Big Woods, 2nd Little House on the Prairie, 3rd Farmer Boy, 4th On the Banks of Plum Creek, 5th By the Shores of Silver Lake, 6th The Long Winter, 7th Little Town on the Prairie, 8th These Happy Golden Years, 9th The First Four Years. (Trust me!)

Summary: A wonderful series for children and their parents to share!
Review: I first read this book about 35 years ago, when I was 7 or 8 years old. I have now had the pleasure of passing on the "tradition" of Laura Ingalls Wilder to my own daughter, who has grown to love Laura and Mary and Baby Carrie. What a wonderful way to pass on the love of reading and discovery to children and those we love. Ginger W, Apple Valley, CA

Summary: Wondeful series for Adults to read (or read again) too
Review: I read these as a youngster and I am re-reading them after a trip near Independence, Kansas where we saw a house where Laura's family once setteld. They are great books! I am seeing the whole experience from a new perspective now that I am 35 (relating more with Ma I think) and I am enjoying the stories completely. It's also nice because the books can be read in a single afternoon or just a few hours. A wonderful look at the pioneer life with details about cheese making, maple suger harvests, and cabin building (in the later novels). I highly recommend these books but suggest reading them in order to keep the story of Laura's adventures straight.
