Rating: Summary: The sweetest book Review: You can never get tired of reading about this adorable family living in the woods. I first read this book when I was in thrid grade. Now, 6 years later, I still enjoy re-reading it. No other book can compare to the wounderful stories in this heart warming book. I recommend this book for people of all ages. You are never too old to enjoy a sweet little book like Little House in the Big Woods.
Rating: Summary: Touches the heart! Review: This book gives off such a warm cozy feeling. Garth Williams did an excellent job with his drawings! He makes the characters so real. Mrs. Wilder was an excellent story teller. I'm so glad she saw the value to her Fathers stories to pass on to us. You can feel the love the family has for each other. Ma liked all her things to be pretty, her daughters well mannered and taught them how to cook, sew and play. Pa passed on to them his art of storytelling and his love for nature. Both parents taught them hard work. I felt sorry for Laura when she was overlooked in town by the storekeeper who complimented Mary and ignored her. What happy times it was for them. The sugaring off dance, the Christmas with the cousins and the wild creatures that lived amongst them. A must read for people of all ages!
Rating: Summary: A Start from an End Review: In this book the Ingalls say good-bye to their family and friends in search of a new life in the Dakota Territory. They end their happy and cozy life for a new one; full of adventures and surprises in what later becomes South Dakota.
Rating: Summary: One of my very first books. Review: I can not remember which of my relatives gave me this book. What I can remember is that I have been an avid reader ever since. This story is the first of the "Little House" series. We are introduced to Ma, Pa, Mary, and Baby Carrie and are invited to share in their day-to-day lives in the Big Woods. To this day I can remember the joys of their Christmas, gathering maple, and the dance at Grandpa's. I fell in love with this book and thru these pages Laura became my best friend. This is a book every child should have the opportunity to read. I cannot wait to share it with my child.
Rating: Summary: Everlasting story Review: I thought, there were not many people in my country know aboutLaura Ingalls Wilder. But recently, I read a group discussion of manyIndonesian talking cheerfully about Laura's books. Most of them found it difficult to find a complete series of Laura's books in Indonesia at the moment, especially for Rose years, even none for Martha and Caroline years. It reminds me again of how I read this Little House series in not particular order because I hardly found it in bookstores. Well, I really like this book because of Laura's childhood and the family activities in those days. The book always makes me hungry as it describes various kind of food in details.
Rating: Summary: Little Short Stories Review: Little short stories, that is what Little House in the Big Woods is. Each chapter is a story about the true life Laura Ingalls Wilder, and how her ma taught her and her sisters how to bake and clean and be good children, and how their pa killed animals so that they could have food to eat.One chapter goes into detail on how after Charles killed a boar, he skinned it, preserved it in salt, and then smoked it in a little smokehouse he had built, no bigger than their outhouse. They used the skins for clothes and shoes, made a little baseball type toy out of the pig's bladder, and fried the tail. It's very educational, if you ask me, which is why, along with the Mandie series of books, I also homeschooled my daughter on Little House in the Big Woods. Every chapter could be read in a short period of time, and each chapter brought a new perspective of what little Laura Ingalls did when she was a little girl. One chapter is about Sundays, and how they baked and did all their cleaning up on Saturday, because on the Lord's day, Sunday, you were not allowed to do anything at all that was considered work. And believe you me, baking and cleaning up a house is a heavy-duty chore. Everybody should read this book, and it is highly recommended by me.
Rating: Summary: Little House In The Big Woods Review: Wolves and panthers and bears roamed the deep Wisconsin woods in the 1860's. But Pa Ingalls preferred to live miles from his nearest neighbors. Pa built a snug log cabin for Ma and his three daughters, Mary and Laura and Baby Carrie. He hunted and trapped and farmed. Ma knew how to make her own cheese and sugar. At night the wind moaned lonesomely, but Pa played his fiddle and sang to his little girls.
Rating: Summary: A story of long ago . . . Review: We really enjoyed this book! It is about Laura Ingalls, and her family, who lived in the woods of Wisconsin in the late 1870's. We liked this book because it is about the "olden days." Most of us chose "The Story of Pa and the Bear in the Way" as our favorite part. We recommend this book to others! Note from the (student) teacher: I highly recommend this book to other teachers! There are so many ways to bring it to life . . .
Rating: Summary: A Dazzling Starter For A Wondeful Series Review: This book is a masterpiece. It tells how hard life was in the Big Woods but also how wondeful life was at the end of the day. My favorite part was the dance at Grandpa's. I wish I could have been there during that time.
Rating: Summary: Little House in the Big Woods Review: I think thas book is very detailed and very interesting. I think everyone should read it because it is about how Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family lived with no neighbors, no stores, and no help to hunt.
