Summary: What I think
Review: The book The Slave Dancer is by Paula Fox, is about a boy named Jessie who got snatched up by two crewmembers. Thirteen year-old Jessie has been kid-napped to play his fife on a slave ship. They took him to the ship where he meets the crew, after a while Jessie realizes that they are on their way to Africa to capture slaves. They get to Africa and board the slaves en the night. Jessie sees how poorly the slaves are treated. During the long voyage to Cuba, Jessie dances the slaves many times and feels hatred towards everyone. Soon after wards, a terrible storm comes and breaks a mast. Jessie takes a slave to the hold, and they hide in there. He finds out the slave is named Ras, and they become friends. The ship breaks and they swim to shore. On the island, they meet a man named Daniel, who gave Jessie and Ras food, water, and shelter. Daniel sends Ras up North so he wouldn't become a slave. If you want to know how Jessie gets home you will have to read the book!

After reading the book called The Slave Dancer, by Paula Fox, I thought the book was a terrible book. After I read the book I thought I was a terrible book. I didn't like it because it was too descriptive, and I felt as though I could of skimmed over a lot of the descriptions about the way the boat looked, and smelled. Also the book was very harsh, I didn't like the crewmembers because the slaves got whipped, the crewmembers were mean. I also didn't like how the author talked about Ben Stout so much and not the other characters. That is what I think about the book The Slave Dancer.

Summary: Boring
Review: Firstly I would like to say that the book was kind of boring, and here are some reasons why. In the beginning, it didn't have enough excitement for me to get into the book. Jessie was complaining about his life in far to much detail. Also the same characters kept being in the action and some characters only said ten words at the most throughout the book throughout the book. Louise Gardere only said two words before he died. Even at the action, parts it wasn't very exciting. They weren't described in enough detail. If you like sea tales you might like this one, but otherwise I don't recommend it.

The book The Slave Dancer written by Paula Fox, is about Jessie and his many adventures. Jessie, a boy living in the 1800's, is captured and taken aboard a ship. The ship is a slaver bound for Africa. Onboard Jessie meets the crew and the slaves come aboard. Jessie's job is to play his fife for the slaves to make them dance and stay healthy. When they reached Cuba, they have a big party, when all of a sudden a storm picks up and the ship is wrecked. Ras, a slave, and and Jessie swim for shore when everyone on the boat has vanished. Jessie and Ras then go their separate ways. This happened because Ras was sent up North and Jessie goes to meet his family. In the end, Jessie is reunited with his family and they move to Rhode Island.

Summary: The Slave Dancer
Review: After reading the book The Slave Dancer, by Paula Fox, I found it was an excellent book with many interesting events. In the beginning, a young boy named Jessie is walking along an alley and the next thing he knows is that he has been captured by two men who take him to a ship, a slaver, called the Moonlight. From then on, Jessie's life changes dramatically while he becomes a part of the crew and develops a bond with his fellow sailors. After many nights, Jessie's boat comes to Africa, where it will pick up slaves. The slaves are very unhappy and Jessie dislikes the cruel way they are treated. His job is to make the slaves dance with his fife, which he hates doing... The Slave Dancer is a very intense, dramatic book, based on the facts from long ago.

I thought the book The Slave Dancer was a very sad a, but a good, interesting book. I liked the story because it told the truth of how slaves were treated long ago. The truth was horrid, and made me feel sad and scared, sometimes even grossed out. [I like that it has a good ending] The Slave Dancer is a very good, truthful, and interesting book.

Summary: My Opinion Regarding
Review: After we read the book The Slave Dancer, by Paula Fox, we thought it was a very touching story. In the beginning Jessie got kidnapped because Purvis and Claudius overheard him playing his fife, and they needed a boy to play an instrument on the slave ship so the slaves would dance. We thought The Slave Dancer was a very good book.

My Opinion Regarding On my perspective, the book The Slave Dancer is a very well written and suspending book. The reason I think this is because Paula Fox was always using similies and personification to help put a picture in my mind of what the scene is like. If I were to rate this book I would give it three stars and one ½. The reason I do not think this book deserves a five star rating is because near conclusion of the book the plot was so abrupt and plain. It was so abrupt and plain because at the end all of the events happened so fast so before you knew it the book was over. Also near the end the characters seemed to be so bored. That is my opinion regarding the book The Slave Dancer.

Summary: This book was stupid, boaring, and confusing.
Review: The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox explains the jounney of a boy named Jessie, and the crew on The Moonlight, a ship. Jessie, a 13-year-old boy, is captured and taken on a ship with his fife that's used to keep the slaves healthy and strong by dancing for the caption. On the ship they went to Africa to pick up the slaves. Sailing on a cloudy night there was a storm. Jessie and a boy were the only survivors after this large shipwreck. Jessie and the boy swam and finally when they were terribly tiresome they came to land. Daniel (an old man) found Jessie. Then Jessie walks across a state from the man's house to his home.

After reading The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox I would not recommend it for anyone to read it. I would not recomend it because it uses strong actions against African Americans. I also didn't like the was they used the word "nigger." It is very confusing. I was so confused durring the whole book. I didn't know if they were in the ship in Africa, or on land. That is why I do not like this book. I also don't think that it should have gotten a Newberry Award.

Summary: The Slave Dancer
Review: After reading the book The Slave Dancer,by Palua Fox, I found that I did not like it for many different reasons. One of the reasons is because it got very boring.I also thought that the chapters were too long. Most of the book was about one thing, which was on the boat and the slaves. I also thought that the book was to fictional, and too much detail In conclusion I would recommend this book though to anyone really interested in slave history.

After reading The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox I was astonished by the realistic setting and the characters of the book. Jessie, who is thirteen years old, is kidnapped by the crew of the Moonlight(a slave ship),and is made to play his fife (a musical instrument) to dance the slaves aboard the ship. Once the slaves board, he is forced to empty the latrines and help clean the holds. After the slaves had boarded the ship and were headed to Cuba, then they had a ball for the slaves this is because they were going to a cruel place. After that they ran into the American patrol. The crew had to throw all the slaves over board, but Jessie and one slave boy named Ras saved himself. Ras and Jessie escaped in the hold and stayed there for a couple of days when the storm occurred. All of the crew died except for the evil captain. Ras and Jessie escaped by a floating piece of wood from the ship. Then they met Daniel who took care of them for about a month. Then Danial sent Ras to the north and gave Jessie directions to get back to his home. In conclusion I thought that this book was amazing.

Summary: The Slave Dancer
Review: I thought The Slave Dancer By: Paula Fox was a great book. I found it quite discriminating to African American people. But the author was just trying to recrate the grusome treatment of slaves in the 1800's .The book had some curse words but as I was saying the seamen were foul mouthed had drinking men.. This book won the Newberry Award I can see why. The author used a great story plot. The characters seemed so real. This book was one of the the best books I have ever read. If you are interested in the slave trade you will love this book!

Review: Slave Dancer by Paula Fox explains about slave trading, I thought was a very touching story. In the beginning, while Jessie is living with his mother and sister he got kidnapped. Then Jessie boarded the moonlight and met the other crewmembers. Then they went to Africa and picked up a lot of slaves. They picked up all the slaves because they had to bring the slaves to the Spaniard. After the crewmembers threw the slaves off, there was a horrible storm and the Moonlight got shipped wrecked. Then Jessie and his slave friend Ras swam to shore and met an old man named Daniel, who saves thier lives by giving them food and drinks. Then Ras goes away to the north, and the old man (Daniel) tells Jessie how to get home. Then finally at the end of the whole book Jessie got reunited with his family. Summary: This Book Is Bad
Review: The book The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox, starts out with a thirteen year old boy named Jessie getting kidnapped and was put on a ship. There were many slaves on that ship because they were doing a slave trade. They needed Jesse because they needed someone who could play a fife. Later on, he met, Purvis and Ben Stout. Before they were at there final destination, there was a ship wreck. Only two people survived. If you want to know who you will have to read the book.

The book The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox is not a very good book because it is a very sad and boring. First, a little boy gets captured and taken on a slave ship and get whipped. Later there is a shipwreck. A lot of slaves die. I think this book is boring because there isn't anything to learn off of it an there is really no point to it This is why I don't recommend this book.
