Summary: The best book ever
Review: Farmer Boy is really good because you learn so much and you never know what will happen next. It gets really exciting and it's about a life you could never imagine. My favorite chapter is when Alamanzo's{the main character's}parents go away for a week and the children make ice cream,{which you can learn to make}and they make some big mistakes, but fix them up. Another thing about this book is that it can probably relate to your life because sometimes the kids fight and get in trouble and maybe you could learn how break them up. If you like to brag about how many pages you read, here's your book because it's 372 pages long !!

Summary: My favorite childhood book
Review: I have been reading Laura Ingalls Wilder books all my life (I'm in my thirties) I still enjoy them even as an adult. Farmer Boy was the last one I read, because it wasn't about Laura. But I think I enjoyed it more than the others, mainly because the Wilder family didn't have to endure as many hardships as the Ingalls' family. Because of this, I think that there was a lot more humor put into this book. My husband didn't read these books as a child, but he loves the chapter where Almanzo outsmarted everyone when they were shearing the sheep. Even though times were harder back then, I think this family really had something special that the world lacks today.

Summary: Farm Pride
Review: When reading this book, I formed an alliance to it. Growing up on a farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I could relate to this book. The weather that could ruin a crop, the pride of having the barn full for the winter and the county fair being the highlight of the summer's end. Almanzo was a farm boy to the bone. While the hard work was always there, there was still the closeness of family working together. You can feel the great love Alamnzo has for Alice, the respect for Royal and tolerance of bossy Eliza Jane. In the end, Almanzo realizes he does have a love for Eliza when she repairs the parlor wallpaper he nearly ruined after throwing the blacking brush at her. The family has a great sense of humor and prided themselves as being farmers. I enjoyed the way this book was written. Almanzo's parents were such hardworkers from morning to dusk. His father tending to all farmwork plus the animals. He'd get up in the middle of the freezing winters to make sure his animals did not freeze. Everything was done with determination and elbow grease. His mother made all there clothes plus canned and prepared all foods. They were very self efficient and did not rely on others for their daily bread. A wonderful story that shows love, jealously, teamwork, fun and respect. One of my all time favorites!

Summary: Almanzo Wilder's Childhood is told.
Review: I think everyone probably knows Laura Ingalls Wilder. Thisstory is about her husband Almanzo's childhood. While little girlsseem to love the other "Little House" books, this one can be appreciated by little boys. (In fact, this book was one of my male cousin's favorites.) This story tells of young Almanzo, his two older sisters and older brother and the adventures they had on their family's farm. A must for every child's library.

Summary: Farmer Boy
Review: I have a very old copy of this book from 1974. I recently got it out, dusted it off (along with the rest of the set of LIW books) and passed them on to my 7 year old son. Farmer Boy is his favorite so far. (As well as mine!)

The book is an account of the life of James Almanzo Wilder from the age of 8-10. In a time when things are "instant", "automatic" and "hurried", this book is great for exposing children to simpler, (yet harder times,) when discipline and work ethics were strong even in the very young.

I enjoyed re-reading this book to my son very much, but have one word of caution. Do not read on an empty stomach. Almanzo's mother was quite a cook and the dinners she cooked will have your mouth watering!

Summary: as always with LIW, a great read
Review: This is the third book in the "Little House" series but is a radical departure from the others since it chronicles the yearly events of LIW's husband as a young boy on a 19th century farm in Malone, New York (as opposed to pioneer life). There isn't really much of a plot, but if you are interested in the details of daily farm life during this period from a young child's point of view, it is a fantastic read. It gives a lot more detail than the other Little House books and, along the way, describes such things as butter-making, "breaking" horses and cattle, Sunday dinner, clothes-making, shearing wool, ice-cream making, planting crops, going to school, etc... While this may sound boring, it's actually quite colorful and entertaining. I highly recommend this for people of all ages (I read my first LH books in 3rd grade and still re-read them occaisionally), especially children.

Summary: The story of a boy named Almanzo Wilder...
Review: While Laura Ingalls grows up in a little house on the western prairie, Almanzo Wilder is living on a big farm in New York State, where he and his brother and sisters work at their chores from dawn to dinner most days--no matter what the weather. There is still time for fun, though, especially with the horses, which Almanzo loves more than anything.

Summary: Sweet story
Review: Farmer Boy was the last book I actually read of the series as it did not involve Laura. But once I read it, I as charmed. Almanzo is so adorable as a little boy and I like his spunkiness. Great book for boy or girl.
