Rating: Summary: My favorite of the Little House books! Review: As a young girl, I read all of the Little House books as all girls in the 60s did, and Farmer Boy was my favorite. For some reason I could relate more to Almanzo's adventures than to the more sedate Ingalls sisters'. I still remember the taffy-pulling and the shoe polish staining the wallpaper.
Rating: Summary: I liked the book. Review: I liked Farmer Boy because it told how hard Almanzo and his brother had to work in the 1880s.It told how much Almanzo loved his dads horses.
Rating: Summary: does not deserve the recognition of schools world wide Review: Horrifically horrible! This plotless excuse of a book proved to be monotonous and shallow. Normally I am great fan of the Little House on the Prairie collection, but Wilder has disappointed me with her flat characters and her misinterpretation of human nature.
Rating: Summary: good books for teaching children to read. Review: I own the entire set of Little House books and they are quite dog-earred since the set has been read through at least three times, once for each of my three children. These are books without today's violence and superheros that can still teach morals to the young. Everyone should have read the Little House series by the time they're in the sixth grade.
Rating: Summary: A good book about life in the 1800's Review: This was one of the most interesting books I have ever read. The book is about boy named Almazo and his siblings. The book goes into detail about life on the farm in the 1800's. The book goes thourgh all the most important times of the year. An example would be like harvest time or Independece Day. It talks about school too. About how kids back then lived and how they grew up to be adults.
Rating: Summary: Interesting to learn about 1800s farm life, but a long read Review: The book I just finished reading is Farmer Boy, written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and originally published by Harper & Row, Publishers in 1933. Farmer Boy is a historical fiction book about an 8-year old boy named Almanzo Wilder growing up on a farm. Since the author was writing about the man she would eventually marry, this book could be non-fiction. The main characters of this book are Almanzo, his big brother Royal, his big sisters Eliza Jane and Alice, and his father and mother. This book takes place in the late 1860's on a farm in upstate New York. Farmer Boy tells the story about a family's life on a farm. The Wilders were very successful and very hard working farmers. They grew all of their food and made all of their clothes. They took care of all their animals and their crops. They had no electricity. They woke up very early to do chores. If there was work to do, the kids would skip school. The boys did most of the farm chores and the girls did most of the house chores. They trav
Rating: Summary: My Favorite of the Series Review: This is my favorite book of the series. I'm not sure if I like the horses, or the food they eat, or the trouble they get into when alone for the week, or the gift of Starlight from his father at the end, but I love reading this book most of all the books in the series. I read it twice. It is great. I think boys would like it too because it is about a boy and growing up.
I have written several Amazon reviews before but I just turned 13 so I can now write a review without using the kid form. I can't wait to get a real name badge when I am old enough to have a credit card.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: I love the Little House on the Prairie book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder which are true stories about her and her families life during the pioneer days of the mid and late 1800's but Farmer Boy which is the third book in the series is actually about the childhood of Laura's husband Almanzo Wilder and his life on a farm in Upstate New York. As a child Farmer Boy was probably my least favorite book in the Little House series but it is still a good book and I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Yikes! Review: I've never read any of Wilder's books except this one. I've never even seen "Little House on the Prarie." The first thing I thought while reading this book is, "Did people really live like this?" Sure, the kids in the book had some fun, but mostly their lives were work, from sun up to sun down. The father, in the winter (40 degress below zero) had to get up at midnight and make the cows move around, otherwise they would freeze where they stood. Thank God for modern technology, which has made our lives so much more easy and pleasant. I recommend this novel for everyone. Wilder writes in a simple, sparse style, one you might call "Hemingway for children." Hard to believe people had to live like this, just in order to have enough to eat.
