Rating: Summary: Illusions Review: The book Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach is a story I had to read for school. To be honest I wasn't that excited. I am a senior and I have been extremely busy planning my future and deciding where I am going to college and what I am going to do with my life. I felt that reading this book would probably just be a waste of my time. I couldn't have been more wrong. This book opened my eyes and taught me to look at the world in a way I never had before. It taught me to slow down and just live. I got to the point where I didn't want to finish the book because I enjoyed reading it so much. The book helped me to relax and to calm down. I realized that I shouldn't be so stressed out and that the college search is a time to enjoy yourself. The book really made me see things clearer than I had before. This book should be read by anyone and everyone but especially those who want to expand the way of thinking and let there soul go places it never has.

I am sure that it will help you in the future also if you read this book.
Rating: Summary: "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah" Review: Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, is one of those books that once you pick up, you never want to put down! It is about a man named Richard who makes his living by giving rides to people in his biplane. He meets a man named Donald, the first person he has met that does the same thing for a living that he does. Richard learns that Donald was once a Messiah, but has 'quit' because people are not interested in hearing what he has to say, but only in the miracles that he performs. Donald teaches Richard that he is in charge of his life, and to look beyond what he thinks he can't do...the impossible becomes possible if he sees it that way. The quotes in the "Messiah's Handbook: Reminders for the Advanced Soul' are inspirational and can be used in everyday life. One of the assignments that came along with reading this book was: think of a problem we were having in life, open "Illusions" to any page, and the answer to our problem would be there. I have to say, I wasn't so sure that this was going to work, but I tried it anyway. Sure enough, what I read on the page put me at ease with what had been going on in my life! The quote read, "If your happiness depends on what somebody else does, I guess you do have a problem." I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a free spirit!
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: The book that I have recently read, Illusions: The Adventure of a Reluctant Messiah, by Richard Back is one of the most inspiring books that I have ever read. It gave me a great understanding of all the things in the world that are happening all the time. If everyone had the Messiah handbook, I think that we would all be better off on understanding life. This book is not only great, but all of the philosophies are great ways of looking at life.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Book Review: "Illusions" is a book with lots of concepts and ideas to understand, but it puts these ideas in such easy to understand and concise words that it's really fun to read. And it doesn't take very long to read either :-) I truly enjoyed this book!
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking books. Review: I pull my tattered paperback copy of this book and read it almost yearly. I find new meaning each time that I open it. The wisdom is compelling and inspired; the premise is novel and worthy of suggesting to anyone who is searching for understanding in a world where many things seem to happen at random. The writing is simple and plainspoken. It is certainly not an all encompassing book of truth, but it lends yet another piece in place... to the puzzle.
Rating: Summary: Trite or Deep? Review: I choose deep. This book spoke to me at a time I needed speaking to. It's one of those most wonderful of parables in that it speaks to many people on many levels, and none of what's said is wrong. I loved the single line bits of wisdom and advise interspersed throughout the book (my favorite: If you're still alive, your mission must not be done.), but the theme I needed to hear was the most glorious thing about the Father's plan is that it's all up to us. It's our choice, and not even God's current Messiah will force us. He must, indeed, love his children.I absolutely recommend this book. It may open some doors; it may close some; it may inspire or it may irritate accepted theology, but it's not a waste. Bach, like the reluctant student, tells us that this book kept pushing him and pushing him until he finally gave in and wrote it. No matter; he still had a choice.
Rating: Summary: Jesus the mechanic begns the New Age movement superficial Review: Richard Bach's main trick when he was writing was to confuse Jesus with Buddha and vice versa. That way Jonathan Livingston Seagull can return from the dead to teach and let people make up their own minds - as opposed to Jesus who returned from the dead in order to convince people to worship him. This offering has less pictures than Bach's more popular work, but just as much superficiality. The plot concerns a guy who meets a Christ-figure that spouts Buddhist hippie philosophy. One particular instance has the Christ-figure character espousing that Christ was telling people to be creative. Of course, couldn't that just have been written in the Gospels instead of that stuff about sin atonement? Follow me or burn? If you don't know that I am the Messiah, then that just proves your ignorance? The book carries on in that vein until a bunch of people get together to kill this guy. It isn't really clear why he's getting killed but since he's a Christ figure that's kind of expected. What Richard Bach fails to realize is that there is more to spirituality, enlightenment, or religion than a bunch of neat sayings for college kids. Bach's Christ-figure says a few nice thing but conscientiously avoids all the more "disturbing" elements of Christ. This is a nice book. A harmless book, a tame book. It is a book for people who have decided that their old spirituality that once satisfied no longer satisfies. But it's certainly not a deep book or a book that is going to change your life, and you should run away from anyone who tells you that Richard Bach is deep.
Rating: Summary: More provocative than you might think Review: Lots of people seem to be talking about "The Alchemist" as a top-notch fable for finding yourself and your dream, but this is the book I feel is more effective in illustrating the theme. This is beautifully-written, with poetry interspersed with prose, as well as a neat look into hot-air balloons. Is altruism an important trait in a person (might you let a vampire/wompire bite you, so he could live)? Do you need another person to show you the way, or just to ask the right questions of you? What does it mean to be lonely? So many thoughts in so few pages of this excellent book!
Rating: Summary: A great outlook on life Review: I am not much of a reader but I really found this book very entertaining. As a matter of fact I've read it a number of times. I think this is a great book to read if you are in low spirits or just need a pick me up. This book pretty much gets to the basics of life and gives you another way of looking at any situation you are faced. Every time I read this book, I learn a little bit more of the message behind it. In alot of ways, it sorta is like the bible. What I mean by that is you can get a different interpertation totally diferent from anothers and you both would be right. It's just a fantastic book and I don't know what more I can say about it. So what are you waiting for people....grab a copy and read on. As a matter of fact I think I am going to read it again.
