Rating: Summary: Brenna's Review Review: Does America really need help making our kids more illiterate? My wife bought this book at my 5-year-old son's request. Apparently his teacher reads it in class frequently (This is a rant for another time)
While I appreciate the whimsical adventures of a curious and spirited little girl, the language is idiotic. I have to correct her horrid grammar and some of her ill manners as I read these books. Fortunately, when I slip up and read one of her malapropisms by mistake, my 5-year-old is smart enough to correct me. Thank goodness there are thousands of better reading experiences available for him. Now if I can just get the book off the teacher's reading list.
Rating: Summary: Fun Books to Get 1st Graders Fired Up About Reading Review: My daughter's reading level jumped way up when she started reading Junie B. Jones books. They are so funny, she couldn't put them down. On a recent trip, the whole family listened to Junie B. Jones books on tape, and we all laughed. To those who think Junie is obnoxious and rude, I say...duh! She's supposed to be! This is fictional literature - enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Great Book For Teaching Horrible Manners Review: Awful, rude, bad. Junie B yells at her parents and behaves badly. It's supposed to be cute.
I read half a book and my 7 year old was embaraased by the rude language and manners. I started skipping over the "bad parts" then just skipped the whole thing. Chapter names like "The Dumb babies room" etc...
Good Book if you want your kid to be rude and obnoxious.
Not for me.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs DOWN!!!!! Review: These books are the worst! If I could give it zero or minus 5 I would. As a teacher and mother of 5 children under 9 I think I have some knowledge in the area of chilren's books. Junie B. is a rude, disrespectful, nasty, child. These books don't encourage anything good! We read half of one and, like someone else said, I had to keep stopping and explaining to the kids how wrong she was. I don't agree with the way books like these have bad character traits glorified the whole way through and then have 2 pages of "a lesson" at the end. Children simply don't absorb the lesson. We work hard to instill noble character traits in our children and books like these work against that. If you think these are good books for young children something is seriously wrong. I would strongly suggest you don't buy these books!
