I absoltuly love it. -Emily p.s. written by Amanda (her mom)
Rating: Summary: The grammar is part of the fun, people! Review: My daughter absolutely adores these books, and she understands that the poor grammar is just part of the joke. We read the books together, or else she reads them to herself, giggling all the way, and then I snatch them away from her so I can have a turn! Parts of these books are downright hilarious, and parents who are reading them aloud, "correcting" the grammar are doing their children a disservice. Lighten up!
Rating: Summary: Great stories-Poor Grammar Review: My daughter really loves the stories, but doesn't like the reading pattern. she hasn't talked with broken english like that since she was 3, and never used all the slang that is in the book. My husband sat down to read one with her and after the first paragraph went and grabbed a pencil to correct the grammatical errors, which he really thought to be typos, til he got to the second page and realized it was throughout the book. At this point he decided it better for her not to read them herself, but instead to have them read to her so that we could read them grammatically correct. We have since bought her the Ramona series for her to read on her own and she gets the same type of stories and adventures without the grammar problems. We just didn't want her thinking it was okay for her to talk the way that Junie B. does. We have since read one of the 1st grade Junie B.'s and have to admit we appreciate that the grammar errors have disappeared on the most part.
Rating: Summary: laugh out loud funny Review: I respect the views of parents who change Junie's grammar, and remove words that they find objectionable. I would simply say that it's possible they are underestimating how smart kids are at this age. Ladies and gentlemen, I respectfully submit: it's a joke; it's supposed to be funny. My 6-year-old understands the joke here; she knows that Junie gets words wrong, and she derives a sense of satisfaction along the lines 'I'm smarter than she is.' There are so many legitimate things to get upset about in these troubled times; I hope that parents don't waste their outrage on these very funny, very true books.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but with a caveat! Review: We own several Junie B. Jones books, and my 8 year old daughter and I enjoy the stories. However, I always read the stories TO my daughter, correcting the poor grammar along the way. The books are written this way to give an air of authenticity to them, in that they are being narrated by a kindergardener. But how many 6 year-olds do you know who say things like "I quick runned fast," or refer to their mother as "That Woman?" I do recommend these books to read to your kids, but definitely not for beginning readers to read on their own.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed Review: I am a mother of three, ages 4,5,and 5. I have read the first two books of the series to my children but I reworded a lot of it. The grammar is that of a 2 yr. old child and there are a lot of negative words (hate, dumb, stupid). My children do not talk this this and I feel that maybe older children would do fine with these books but I do not feel that 5 yr. olds act and talk in this manner. My children could relate to some of the story and I think the basic story is good if you leave out the negative words and bad grammar. Five year olds are much smarter that the author gives them credit for.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Collection! Review: These books are targeted for the 7 to 9 crowd and they tear through them quite fast. Print is easy to read, the stories are fun and have value in content. My children can't get enough of Junie B. Jones, they read and even re-read them! Highly recommended for the intermediate elementary reader.
Rating: Summary: Peeked Interest! Review: My God daughter is in 2nd grade and they are just getting into chapter books. She is a good reader but lacks confidence and doesn't think so. She is now doing book reports in school and when her parents suggested that she start reading some chapter books and a doing reports on them she immediately got scared and said that they were too hard and that she couldn't do it. I took her to Borders and talked to a sales person, they suggested the Junie B. Jones's Series, they said that they were very popular. At frist my God daughter said that they were too hard but after sitting on the floor with her and looking through them, she seen the box set and that it said "First Ever" she said that she wanted them. It didn't matter to me what peeked her interest as long as she seemed interested. When she got home she started to read "Sneaky Peaky Spying" and finished it in one and a half days and did her first "chaper book" book report! She was so proud of herself as so was I. She loves these books.
Rating: Summary: Comedy for Kids! Review: Junie B. is really a good series of books. Many people might say that Junie B. doesn't portray a good example for kids to model by and they are right! Its supposed to be funny. You are supposed to read these with your kids and show them the humor there. My little girl loves these books and loves to laugh at Junie B. She's six and she understands when Junie B. is doing/saying something she shouldn't. This is an opportunity for you to instill some humor in your kids and also teach them to read. Everything in the world isn't right and pretty. This isn't either.....its just clean, funny reading and we all need to laugh a little more and get on with living!
Rating: Summary: Recognize Review: From a future educator, I found the entire series of Junie B. Jones books entertaining. Apparently the author has done something right for the books to be so popular. In regard to the language and behaviour of Junie, the author is simply trying to portay characteristics and grammar that are unacceptable in society (hence one must practice opposite behavior and grammar). A parent or adult reader who is able to recognize that the author is not trying to imply that the grammar or behaviour is acceptable will be able to differentiate good literature and teach the children what is acceptable. Must read books!!
