Rating: Summary: Huck Finn and Lonesome Dove - The two best, ever! Review: The all time classic American epic. Explores all the great themes, love, honor, confict of good and bad, friendship, nature and the meaning of life. Not only that but with style and humor. There is so much to be said, we should start the "The Dovies" and gush to our hearts content.
Rating: Summary: Epic, rereadable, endearing Review: One of the things I really liked about Lonesome Dove is that the characters are so well described that you are just dying to find out what they were like prior to and after Dove. You want to see unrequited love found, and wrongdoers punished. It's also one of the few books whose television movie followed it almost word for word. I truly loved it!
Rating: Summary: A book that you will wish never ends. Review: Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove is a true masterpiece. It's such an honest, vivid and touching novel. It's characters come to life in such a way that you feel that you personally know them. It brings us back to a world and a time so different from our present lives, yet is so easy to imagine. The book shows the tenderness and crulety of human emotions and will make you want to laugh out loud or make you teary eyed in certain parts. I've been an advid reader of all kinds of books since I was ten and Lonesome Dove is the only book I've ever reread. It will always have a special place in my heart. If you read one western in your life, read this one.
Rating: Summary: WHAT READING IS ALL ABOUT... Review: ...I read this book several years ago (about 8 actually) and I still tell people it is one of my favorites. If I were a person who liked to reread books I would most certainly reread this one! It is the only book I have ever read where I actually found myself either laughing out loud or getting all teary-eyed...LOVED IT!!! I am so glad to see all of the others here who have enjoyed it.IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS BOOK YOU NEED TO NOW!!!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous, amazing, really really good Review: I'm an eleven year old who first saw part of Lonesome Dove (the miniseries) on vacation. I begged my mom to let me borrow the book, and after one reading, it became one of my all-time favorites. I told my friends about it, and, although none of them have read it yet, I may give a copy to one for her birthday! By the way, my friends Lonesome Dove nicknames are Jasper, Po Campo, Deets, and Dish!
Rating: Summary: An Epic - One of the greatest books ever written. Review: I have read an average of 2 books per month since age 7. I'm now 40. Reading is a passion for me. I have read all the classics and too many to count 'best sellers', Lonesome Dove is the best novel I have ever read. My hope is that one day this will be required reading for my children. It's that important. Buy the hardcover and store it in a special place.
Rating: Summary: A sprawling epic Review: Wow! This has got to be one of my top five favorite books ever read. This book is huge, and it didn't seem to last as the story sucked me in a engulfed enormous amounts of my free time. I love to stumble on a book that I can't wait to return to, and Lonesome Dove was one of those books. Gus McCrae is one of the most vivid and onery characters that have ever been written, and while I am not particularly a fan of western stories, this is a book that I will reread with joy over the remaining years of my life. Definately read this book.
Rating: Summary: Frustrated with compelling thirst for some conclusion. Review: McMurtry left his readers a sense of loss with a annoyed rage fixed upon they know not whom. Towards Call, for his deflated masculine pride. Towards Newt, for not confronting who he sensed beyond doubt was his father. Augustus, for his hard-headed mule-like stubborness for choosing human vanity over living existance. The author, but he had a purpose-What was that purpose, do we know? Withfraining from conclusion bestows upon this novel its greatness; It attributes itself an epic, along with its ancestors, such as Gone With the Wind and others. This author earns my mindful respect in this way. I
Rating: Summary: The BEST of a series of TEXAS semi-historical novels!!! Review: All I can say about Lonesome Dove,et al, is that they are like old friends; the more you read them the more you know them! This also goes for the other "Lonesome Dove" novels. As for "scrooge" in Australia, IT'S FICTION!!
Rating: Summary: The best book that I ever read Review: I thought that Lonesome Dove was the best book I've read. I read a lot of books and really felt that Larry brought me into the story. This is the first "Western" that I've read. I've read the other books that followed the story of Gus and Call. I recomend the series to any body that wants to read something different.
