Summary: Everything on a Waffle
Review: -I read the book Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath. I give this book a 4 star rating.
-Everything on a Waffle is a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Honor book. This book earned a 4 star rating because I think it is unique. After each chapter you read there is a recipe. Some of the recipes are very inventive like how to make Pear Soup or Cherry Pie Pork Chops. Other recipes are plain for example how to make Perfectly Boiled Potatoes. The recipes have meaning to the main character, Primrose, because they were recipes from her mother who was lost at sea. A weird part of this story is at Miss Bowzer's restaurant called, The Girl on the Red Swing, where everything including lasagna comes on a waffle. (That's how the book got its name)
-The reason I didn't give this ALA Notable book a 5 star rating is because of the ending. The ending was boring. By this I mean, it ends how every fairy tell ends. There wasn't any twist or turns in the book. If you like those happy endings that aren't really realistic and you know what is going to happen, then this is the book to read. I personally like suspense in my books. This is why I gave Everything on a Waffle a 4 star rating.
-Other titles I would recommend is Go for the Goal by Mia Hamm, Anne Frank: A Diary of a Young Girl, and Another favorite of mine is A Circle of Time.

Summary: A good book on a waffle.
Review: A GOOD BOOK ON A WAFFLE.

Primrose Squarp is an amusing, funny eleven year-old girl who is very lost and unsure of her self after she becomes an orphan. Her parents are lost at sea and everyone thinks they are dead, but Primrose thinks they are still alive stranded or lost on an island somewhere. She waits on the dock every night for them to come back.
Since her parents are lost Primrose goes to live with her Uncle Jack who is in the Navy stationed in Coal Harbor, but he is not the best guardian for her, he is not around a lot so Primrose is often lonely.
Primrose loves the town restaurant, " The girl on the red swing." (That's where they sell everything on a waffle, fish on a waffle even waffles on waffles) She gets along very well with the owner Kate Bowzer, she teachers her how to cook and takes her in and makes her feel well again and befriends her. Although she does like Kate she doesn't care for Miss Honeycut her counselor, she is too caught up in her own world to care about anyone else but herself (which is odd to Primrose because at this time in her life she needs someone to talk to) and her babysitter Miss Perfidy also tends to get on Primrose's nerves.

Over all I enjoyed this book I think in a way it teaches you to be able to handle anything that comes at you and to be strong and patient. I also thought it was enjoyable how they had little recipes throughout the book. It made the book different and unique.

Summary: I loved it on a waffle!
Review: As a freshman in high school, and a huge bookaholic who usually enjoys the 'higher level' literature (I love Jane Austen, the Brontës, Sylvia Plath, John Irving...), I have to say I truly loved this book. It was light, quirky, funny, well-written, and different! The characters were eccentric, the plotlines amusing. Primrose's life is, no pun intended, an open book. She is frank, amusing, and candid. Primrose is also full of wise-beyond-her-years perception; she says: "Sometimes you get tempted to make something wonderful even better, but in doing so you lose what was so wonderful to begin with." I would highly reccommend this book to ANYONE who wants to read something light, well-done, and funny!

Summary: O.K. but not great
Review: Being a fifth grade school teacher, I am constantly looking for the next great book. I eagerly anticipated the announcement of the Newbery Award this year and quickly read all of the honorees. None of them impressed me including this one. The set up of the story is unique but it did not capture my attention as I expected it to. The story is good, but not enough to make me pick it up and read it over and over. If you are looking for a book to keep you busy for a couple of hours, this is it. But it is not a book that you will go back to after a couple of years.

Summary: Comedy, Excitement, and More
Review: EVERTHING ON A WAFFLE
By
Polly Horvath

If you are looking for a book with comedy, excitement and those books that make you want to cry then you should go to your local library or book store and pick up Everything on a Waffle and you will get what you were looking for. Everything on a waffle is a book about a girl named Primrose Squarp. She lives in Coal Harbor. Her parents got lost at sea. She moves in with an old moth ball lady named Ms. Perfidy. Then her Uncle Jack is in the navy he get stationed in Coal Harbor. Then she moves in with her Uncle Jack. She gets a dog named Mallomar. A wicked witch named Ms. Honeycut is deeply in love with her uncle but she is Primrose counselor and she doesn't like Primrose. Primrose looses a toe and a finger. Since she looses her toe and finger Ms. Honeycut has her put in a faster home. The faster parents were named Bert and Evie. They move to Coal Harbor. Then the house they moved into burned down. Then one day when primrose, Uncle Jack, Bert and Evie were walking on the beach her parent came riding up on a rescue boat. Every body was so shocked Evie and Burt just sat there with mouth open and Uncle Jack just passed out. Then Primrose took off running. And all the time her parents were gone Ms. Bowzer was teaching her important life lessons.

For my opinion of the book I thought it was funny like when Primroses uncle told the boys that that could use the gem if they could find a person with nine toes wanting them to get primrose but they found another kid. It was exciting when her parents came home. Then it was sad when she lost her toe and finger. Ms. Bowzer tot me a lot of lessons.

How the book got its title is they would go to a diner that served waffles for plates. They even have recipes in the book.
Primrose believed that her parents were still alive, But people would tell her that her parents were dead. She wouldn't believe them.

Review: Everything on a Waffle is a book about a girl named Primrose Squarp, who is simply convinced that her parents didn't drown at sea though everyone else does. While she's orphaned, she lives with Miss Perfidy, a neighbor, her Uncle Jack, and foster parents. In the end you will be surprised.

This book won a 2002 Newbery Honor Award, and I believe that it deserved that award. It was an excellant book, and it had great descriptions. I don't like books that don't give good descriptions. This book kept me wanting more.

This is a book for anyone, especially if you are into realistic fiction. It's a good book for kids ages 10-13. Anyone can read it though. I recommend it to everyone, it was never boring.
