Rating: Summary: The Humorous Book Review: This book is about a boy named Joey who goes on a vacation to his dad's house. His dad wants to make up for the time he hasn't been around. And when Joey and his dad start to get along, his dad asks him if he wants to stay and live with him. I would rate this book as a 4 because it's not a great book but it's a good book. I liked the character Joey because he's exciting and interesting and I don't like Joey's grandmother and Joey's dad because they're nasty and disgusting. His grandmother gets crazy by smoking too much and his dad gets drunk by drinking too much beer. The setting took place at Joey's dad's house and at the mall. This story was pretty interesting and the author writes as if the characters are real.
Rating: Summary: Joey Pigza Loses Control Review: I really liked the book Joey Pigza Loses Control by Jack Gantos. I liked the way the author made Joey have internal and external problems and find out how to solve them. My favorite character was Joey's Grandma because Joey thought that his Grandma would be horrible, but she wasn't that bad. Joey's parents are divorced and Joey wanted to visit his dad for the first time. Joey didn't know what to expect what he got there and he didn't expect what happened. I would give this book five stars. I would recommend this book to a friend because I liked it. If you want to find out what happens when Joey goes to visit his dad you'll have to read the book.
Rating: Summary: Not for younger children Review: From the cover and the fact that this book had won the newberry I was sure it would be a great book for kids. Watch out! This book is only appropriate for older children. 10 at the youngest. Joey has to deal with a lot of craziness and I found the book depressing. I think it could really scare some 6-8 year olds. They don't need to see his father screwing him up. Too intense.
Rating: Summary: Touching and Terrifying Review: Has there ever been such an excellent book written about childhood ADD/ADHD? In this sequel, Joey has grappled with his disease and with the aid of medication patches has learned to live with it quite successfully. However his hard-won control is soon ruthlessly snatched away from him by his very scary father, an unappealing adult with probably the same diagnosis who believes that Joey can control his behavior without the use of the "crutch" of medication. I don't think I've ever read anything as heart-wrenching and terrifying as the scene when Joey is trying to go to sleep and realizes that the "old Joey," the off-medication Joey, is fast approaching him and will take control of his mind and body. One hopes children take from this book the message that they shouldn't keep secrets from parents who care, since he could have been saved much earlier from the purgatory his father thrust him into had he only confided in his warm and sensible mother. What mixed emotions Joey confronts when he thinks about his father, a man with whom he would like to have a relationship but who unfortunately is just not well and lacks any insight at all into his personality and his disease. Good luck, Joey! You have opened my eyes to the struggles of ADD children so that I will never look at them the same way again.
Rating: Summary: 5-Star Read! Review: I read the book Joey Pigza Loses Control by Jack Gantos. The book is about a boy named Joey who went to stay with his dad for six weeks over the summer. Joey was the pitcher on his dad's baseball team. Joey has a pet Chihuahua named Pablo who is Joey's best friend. The part when Joey got to go wherever he wanted to for a half day was the best. I would recommend this book to a friend. If you want to know what happens, read Joey Pigza Loses Control by Jack Gantos
Rating: Summary: Joey Pigza Review: Joey Pigza Losses Control is a young but sometimes heartfelt book, its about a boy who has ADD (Attention Defict Disorder). He lives with his mom, but Joey has to go to vist his dad for this summer, but Joey hasn't met his dad in a long time. Joey had a dog name Pablo who is a very out going dog. When Joey is in trouble or is upset, Pablo is there having the same feelings what Joey is having. Joey's dad has some problems with alcohol, thats why Joey's parents split up. When Joey is heading to his dad's house, he's feelings are going wild and asking his mom what if all questions all the time while on the road to his dads house. Joey's grandmom who lives with his dad is very cold hearted, mean women last time he saw her. When Josey arrives at his dads house, he was really scared about what is going to happen, his dad would talk about this place called Storybook Land, thats where his father did alot of thinking about his life and how he should change while Joey is living their his dad took Joey off his patches that would make Joey settle down and not go out of control. Joey was also on this dads baseball team, and took them to the Championship. Joey Pigza is a very well written book about a childs life with a disorder which he can not control without medicine. the arthur makes the book so sad, happy and very emotional you can feel in your whole entire body. the book opens your heart but ina way make you feel mas at the dad, srooy for Joey, angry at the grandmom and laugh at the dog Pablo. This is a good book and you should read ti if you like a book with a book and to learn about a disease that does affect lots of people around the world.
