Summary: Forever Magic
Review: When I was a kid, I loved Edward Eager's books. Now that my own "kid" is 21 and in college, I still love Edward Eager's books. So does he! It's been decades since I read HALF MAGIC for the first time and the story has stayed with me. Four children find a magic talisman and go on wonderful adventures. The concept is simple and the story captures you easily. There is no wizardry, no scary characters. Just real kids stumbling upon real magic and what happens to them. And on that note I will recommend another Eager book SEVEN DAY MAGIC which is based on that very premise. Please read these books. They are timeless and lovely.

Summary: A wild book
Review: A bizzare and interesting book for kids who like magic and fantasy.

Summary: Delightful Fantasy with a Touch of Whimsy
Review: This is Edward Eager finest piece of fantasy combined with much humour and a taste of whimsy. The influence of E. Nesbit is unmistakable in the structure of the book but with a much lighter touch and purpose. This is not high fantasy but it delighted me as a child on a summer day sitting in the grass and sending me soaring away on a cloud of adventure. The idea of getting half a wish is an inspired concept and this idea is not let down by the author as he puts it to magical and imaginative use throughout the work. His work as a lyricist serves him well in the writing as some passages feel like light verse. A wonderful book.

Summary: excellent
Review: this is an excellent book for children from ages 7 - 13. it is very imaginative. it is about four siblings, three sisters and one brother, who find a magic talismen that looks like a nickel. this magic nickel will grant them half a wish. before they figure this out, they get in a load of trouble. instead of going to a desert island, they land in the middle of a desert. instead of having Mark's (the brother) friends not at camp but playing baseball with him, his friends end up being half way there (they disapear from camp but are translucent when playing baseball). Once they figure out what it does, they use it to get them into and out of trouble. they even bump into the great Merlin of the medevil age! have a great time reading it... i know i did!

Summary: My Favorite Book
Review: The first in the series, and the best. Half Magic is a great book of how four siblings find a magical coin that they learn only grants half wishes. This book inspired me to read the others in the series, which I loved. I will never forget the thrill I got from reading this exiting novel. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, and fun put together in one great package!

Summary: Leisurely But Serious
Review: Well, I checked this out from the library on a recommendation, and was so compelled by the story that I read the entire thing in one day. The characters are very realistic, one could almost forget that they're reading a fiction story, if it weren't for the knights, and magic, and other such things. It had a good moral, and I really liked the ending.

Summary: Excellent entertainment
Review: In a recent assignment, my son wrote:

As four children walk along a sidewalk in mid-summer, the eldest spots a "nickel" ahead of them. She pockets it, then, a little while later, wishes that something exciting would happen... like a fire. A few second later, the children see a bright red fire truck tearing down the street! Does the coin conceal some sort of magic?

This book was far more entertaining then Knight's Castle and Magic by the Lake, also by Edward Eager. I enjoyed the humor quite a lot. The way Eager wrote this book keeps you hanging, as well as entertained. I hope others will enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: Half Magic Magic - Beyond Being a "Good Book"
Review: When it comes to the book, Half Magic, the less said, the better. It is a book which so defies cliches of what is good (children's) literature. It is more than a book. It is its own universe.

Summary: A marvelous, magical ride!!!
Review: When another homeschooling mom recommended this book for my nightly family read-aloud, I was hesitant because of the "magical" content. My kids just don't like that subject. But this mother insisted that it was a window to many different historical periods and it was just plain fun. It was more than accurate! The quaintness of a more gentler time in America combined with the magical powers of a charm are Eager's vehicle for fun, laughter and a lot of learning about human existence.

Please read it aloud as a family. You will laugh and it will set the stage for hours of real quality time.

Summary: A magical tale for children and adults!
Review: I have my original "Weekly Reader Book Club" hardcover of this book and have read it at least twenty times over my lifetime. Now I will pass on the book to my granddaughter with the fervent hope that she will find the "magic" in its pages which has stayed with me for a lifetime. Truly a "classic" in every sense of the word which should be savored, like a delicious dessert, on a summer afternoon. These children are the friends you wish you could have next door. Buy this book for someone you love, child or adult.
