Rating: Summary: The Best Pregnancy Book I Have Review: I love this book. She gives real advice, candidly without all the BS and the condescending tone of other Pregnancy books like "What to Expect When Your Expecting". She doesn't scare you to death and reminds the reader that women have been doing this for thousands of years! Buy this one!
Rating: Summary: A Mind-Saver! Review: I absolutely adore this book! Vicki is funny, straight-talking & very "connect-able" - her words relieved my fears & made me laugh like none of the other pregnancy books did. I totally dig the idea that every woman who's become a mother is now a "girlfriend"!
Rating: Summary: The Best Pregnancy Book I've Read Review: My best friend told me about this book and I am so glad I bought it. The author skips all the bull and tells us first timers how it really is. The book is full of laughs and stories that you can actually relate to making you feel like you're really talking to your girlfirends. It made me feel so much better about my pregnancy. Just knowing that the changes happening to your body are normal during pregnancy eases the stress and puts your worries to rest.
Rating: Summary: Saved my mind! Review: I read this book while I was pregnant for the first time. I am SO glad I found this book; it eased my fears so much, and it also let me know that I'm not the only woman to fear the same things I'm also so excited about. I recommend reading this in conjunction with a more medical type book.
Rating: Summary: Funny and informative! Review: This was my favorite out of all of the pregnancy books that I read while pregnant, and trust me, I read a ton of them. This book was not only funny (unlike the other books) it was the ONLY one to tell me things that no one else had the courage to. Like, what things would be like after the birth: the stitches, the mess, the whole "not being able to sit down right" sort of thing, that people just seem to keep to themselves. I appreciated the sincerity of the facts, as presented in this book. The author has gone through this a few times and really knows her stuff. Not only was it a joy to read, it helped me to understand and cope with the new things that were happening to my body. This is a book that is not to be missed by pregnant women.
Rating: Summary: Finally a book about pregnancy that makes you laugh! Review: The tiltle says that this isn't coming from a doctor, so take everything with a grain of salt. Absolutely every page is informative from the perspective of someone who's been there. Vicki is quick to point out that what happened to her may not happen to you. Every pregnancy is diferent. This book is a refreshing departure from the dry analytical books which others recommend as "bibles". Buy it, read it and enjoy. The joy of pregnancy is too short to take it too seriously!
Rating: Summary: Belly Laughs Review: I loved this book! It is not a preachy, what to do/what not to do kind of book. If you want to have a lot of laughs and fun, then this is the kind of lighthearted, entertaining book for you. If you want serious, doctor recommended advice, shop elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: NOT everything your doctor won't tell Review: Yes, it was funny, but it could've been more responsible. EVERYTHING your doctor won't tell is quite a claim, and it simply doesn't begin to live up to it. Though it's a good laugh, every book on natural childbirth that I've read has been far more informative.
Rating: Summary: Lots of laughs - enjoy! Review: I read The Girlfriends' Guide after the birth of my second child and I must agree, Vicki and her friends were right on target with many of their comments and observations. It's not often you find a book that cheerfully discusses the many thoughts, feelings and emotions that one goes through during pregnancy and does so in a manner that is both entertaining and truthful. The girlfriends were a little more sarcastic about the whole pregnancy experience than I would have liked and I strongly disagreed with the comment that "anyone who tells you they love being pregnant is lying" (because I love being pregnant - really!)- but if you can just take the book in the same manner you would a good gab session with your girlfriends, you will get several much needed laughs and a lot of insight into what pregnancy is really all about. I recommend The Pregnancy Book if you want a book that is more traditional and addresses the medical aspects of pregnancy, and We're Pregnant! if you are looking for a couple's view of the whole process of being pregnant, giving birth and becoming new parents.
Rating: Summary: If this is your first pregnancy, you must read this book! Review: This book is the perfect supplement to books like "What to Expect When Your Expecting." It is not so much a medical approach to pregnancy, but instead a practical approach. I was so glad to learn what I did from this book rather than just find out the hard way. "The Girlfriends" advice is straight forward and understandable. And like the title says, you really will learn things that your doctor won't tell you (nor will other books). Furthermore, the author has a wonderful sense of humor making the book a delightful read. Don't make this the only pregnancy book you read, but do make sure you read it!
