Summary: One of the best books I've read in a very long time.
Review: This is the first Iris Johansen book I've read and I couldn't put it down. I have recommended it to my 15 year old son because it has NO bad language, it is full of suspense and action and there are consequences for people's actions.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: The premise was a good one, it suffered from the writing.
Review: I should know better than to buy a book "blind" but I did. Always look at a book and if the majority of the book is nothing but conversation, forget it! I found the character of Eve consistently abrasive which made her "one-note" and consequently, dull. The same conversations were repeated over and over. The writer pounded and pounded on her "independence" and integrity, while at the same time the character is constantly dependent on Joe (the cop) and makes choices that endanger not only herself, but those remaining (since her daughter is gone) whom she loves. The motivation for her actions was extremely thin - it boiled down to money. What kind of motivation is this for a supposed heroine with integrity? Whether this was for a charitable organization or not did not matter to me. It was money, plain and simple. The heroine gets herself into an untenable situation and then the writer wants us to feel sympathy for her! Forget it! When I read some line around page 300 that said (roughly) "They are trying to trap you." I just threw the thing down in disgust!

Summary: COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!
Review: I just read this book this past weekend, and I found it to be absolutely riveting!! It's the first Iris Johansen book I've read, but won't be the last. I honestly had a hard time putting it down. It's full of suspense, frightening in a way, and sad at the same time. The really scary part is that I believe in this day and age what takes place in the book could actually happen. I hear she's coming out with another book about the main character in this one sometime this summer...I can't wait to read it!! She is definitely a must read!!

Summary: A Good Read But An Unlikeable Heroine
Review: This was a very well written book with good suspense but Eve was very unlikeable and almost rude all the time. Hope the next book she gets a better attitude.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: I found this to be Iris Johansen's best book yet!
Review: I really have enjoyed Iris Johansen's change from historical romances to the suspense/thriller genre. I am an avid reader and particulary like the attention to detail in Ms. Johansen's books. I find the content to be fresh and always unique! "Face of Deception" was her best work yet and I cannot wait to read the sequel. The story line is gripping and I finished the book in one sitting just to see how it would end. I would highly recommend this book.

Summary: great, suspenceful and can wait to finish
Review: I loved this book almost as well as'THEN YOU DIE'. It was a great plot and easy to understand but twisted.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good but too many questions left unanswered
Review: I enjoyed this book, but didn't like the ending. We should know without a doubt who the main character is going to end up with and see some of that new beginning... Also, Bonnie should know a lot more than what she does! She should at least be able to warn her mother of possible impending danger, if not be able to foretell the future... Sandra and Margaret should also be developed more... Despite what sounds like a lot of criticism, I really did enjoy the book and am looking forward to a sequel.

Summary: .........GREAT, but I use the term lightly
Review: I'm an avid reader but to tell you the truth, I don't buy many books. Iris Johansen has been my favorite author for a few years now with The Ugly Duckling being my favorite. This is the first book -hardcover, nonetheless- that I bought of hers because I was confident in her abilities to create suspenseful and intriguing plots as well as finishing it all off with with a surprising and awe-inspiring conclusion. Her characters were always so in-depth that it made you feel as if you were in the story with them and the romances between them made your heart flutter. I wouldn't say I was disappointed with the book because it is too strong a word for such a great writer but I must say, that this isn't her best work. Although I did thouroughly enjoy the book and would encourage all her fans to read it, it left me feeling a little empty. The book did have its fair share of suspenseful plots and surprises along with a conclusion that left you gasping, but it didn't compare to her other books. Eve Duncan; her strong will and courage are trademarks of Johansen's writing, but Eve became just plain annoying sometimes! And the romance between Eve and Duncan didn't seem as compelling -if that's the right word for it- as the attraction between her other characters. But to tell you the truth, I am still eagerly awaiting her next book, hoping it will turn out better than this one. If it happens to be a sequel, I only hope that Eve changes for the better as most characters do in Johansen's novels.

Summary: I didn't like Eve.
Review: Although this book moves very fast, I found the main character, Eve Duncan, to be abrasive, aggressive, and downright rude. I used to really enjoy Iris Johansen's books, but lately her characters are not even likeable. No more of her books for me, even though I like her writing style. It's her characters that leave me cold.

Summary: A Novel for Conspiracy Therorists
Review: When Iris Johanson first moved away from historical romance and into romantic suspense, I was disappointed, because I enjoyed her historicals so much. To my surprise, my tastes have grown with her writing style. To my mind, this book is her best yet. The sensuality was a bare undercurrent, which made it more interesting. But the real thrill was the suspense. For one who has long been interested in the Kennedy assasination, this book raised all sorts of fascinating questions. I simply couldn't put it down until the last twist of plot was unraveled. I greatly look forward to what will happen in the next Eve Duncan book. Joe deserves to get his girl.
