Summary: I was quickly pulled into the pages and released at the end!
Review: I have been waiting for a book that would peak and hold my interest from the beginning and this book has done it. The twists and turns offered by Ms Johansen kept me going. I couldn't put it down and I look forward to reading her continuation of the Eve Duncan character as well as her other publications. (This was my first Iris Johansen book)

Summary: A good summer read which was hard to put down.
Review: I have never read anything by this author before and just picked it up to read during the summer. I'm now hooked on this author and am presently looking for other works she has done in this similar style. If you're looking for heavy reading pass this one by. I was looking for an enjoyable book and this was everything I could have expected. The characters were interesting and the story line was different and compeling. I wanted more when I read the last page and wished that it didn't end so quickly.

Summary: Good
Review: I had been waiting to read this book for almost 8 months and once I got my hands on it I couldn't stop reading. It's really good with suspense all the way. But there are certain things in this book that seems too far fetched to be real. All in all a good read.

Summary: Wow!!
Review: I have been waiting for this kind of book for so long. This book fulls of a lot of surprises. The best part about this book is its professional writing. =) I finally realize that there is a PROFESSIONAL writer doing a great job.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: This is absolutely by far the best book I have read in a long time, I couldn't put it down! The way Iris Johanson words it just right to keep you hanging on til the next chapter is excellent!!! This is a very well written book, I definately give this a thumbs up!! I can't wait to read "The Killing Game" next.

Summary: After her other books this one was a big disappointment.
Review: I did not like the character of Eve Duncan at all. I thought she was annoying. I like conflict between the male and female characters but her character just made me angry. I did not finish this book. I know I will not buy the next book with this annoying character. I did not like the foul language either. I think it was unnecessary. I have been an Iris Johansen fan for years but will be very careful before I purchase any more of her books.

Summary: I read this book in 1 sitting!
Review: I have been a fan of Iris Johansen's for the past 6 years and I must say that the last few modern supense novels written by her are fabulous! The plot is well researched, the heroine Eve is a remarkable character; strong and focused on her objectives, and I especially enjoyed the love triangle dynamics...I can't wait for the continuation of Eve's life in "The Killing Game"

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great! Fast-paced and exciting, full of surprises!
Review: I just finished this book and loved it! I found the characters to be real, full of emotion and interesting. The twists and turns kept me guessing (it was nice not to be able to figure it out!) I am looking forward to the next book featuring Eve Duncan - thanks for a wonderful read!

Summary: Poor quality writing.
Review: The writing is poor quality and unprofessional. You can get a third of the way through the book without knowing what the main characters look like. The dialogue is contrive and trite. On the whole reading the book was an unpleasant experience.

Summary: Annoying, Insulting, Cliched characters
Review: Iris Johansen's The Face of Deception gets no recommendation from me. It's an insulting, annoying book with a poorly-conceived plot, cliched characters doing unbelievably moronic things, and a main character who hates men. On the other hand, if you want to read a book about a one-dimensional woman constantly arguing with men, asserting her rights alternately not to be pulled into danger and not to be protected from danger, who finalizes simply, "Jesus, men are idiots," then for you it's a page turner.

Iris Johansen is the queen on the one-word paragraph.

Her list of characters includes a computer tycoon who has no idea how to actually use a computer or any other form of technology; an Atlanta police detective who seems to have the freedom to do whatever while reporting to nobody, and who sees no advantage in protecting a chain of evidence; and a White House-employed serial killer who couldn't be more proud of himself.

In a cruel slap at parents who have lost children and who would secretly love to have a comforting dream, a sense of their presence, or even to slip into the ever-present madness that stalks them, for just a glimpse of them, Johansen's main character carries on extended, information-filled dialogues with her dead daughter.
