Rating: Summary: Not Catcher in the Rye, but in the Ball Park... Review: Hornsby is to Salinger what Cal Ripken is to Gehrig; as close as this day and age is going to get.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ FOR ANY MUSIC OR MOVIE LOVER Review: I loved this read. Any fan of music who has rolled their eyes at someone else's music collection will laugh until it hurts. Read it and enjoy the day it takes you to read it. You will miss the characters after you put the book down.
Rating: Summary: A Nice Slice of Reality Review: Nick Hornby has really written a wonderful book about life. It's that simple. It is both hilarious and heartbreaking, it never misses a beat, its fast and furious and impressive. If this falls into too many female hands, however, all our secrets will be out.
Rating: Summary: A dangerous weapon in the hands of women Review: If we measure great books by the impact they have on our lives, the images they leave to linger in our minds, and the new insights they offer through which we see the world anew, then High Fidelity definitely makes my Top Five list. Hornby's analysis of the male ego is alarmingly dead-on - if I learned as much about myself and the male world as I did by pouring through its pages, I'm scared to think of what a weapon in would be in the hands of the women of the world. High Fidelity is the male psyche, stripped down butt-naked and tossed into a store window display for the world to see. Be sure to stop and take a look.
Rating: Summary: A "Guy" Book Review: It was recommended as a "guy" book. It really is. I read it cover to cover, then re-read it, then loaned it to my brother to read.
Rating: Summary: A *real* can't-put-it-down book! Review: My fast-paced, work-filled, family-filled life rarely leaves me two consecutive minutes in which I can enjoy one of those "can't-put-'em-down" books. So, I end up wading through even the most fast-paced books at a snail's speed. Not High Fidelity. I started and just couldn't stop. I took a sick day, sent the kids off with their dad, and finished it off in a day. I laughed out loud, and called my girlfriends to share the jokes. This is the "if-you-can-only-read-one-book-this-year" book!
Rating: Summary: It changed my life Review: What a great book. Some of my friends whom I've lent this book to have failed to relate as closely as I do, while others keep "forgetting" to give it back. I read it all in one sitting one night, ignoring my wife and children as they went through dinner, their nightly routines, and bedtime. A classic "guy" book. Superb use of writing techniques.
Rating: Summary: Among the greatest books ever written Review: In my humble opinion, this book captures the spirit of human subconcious and hidden idiosyncrasies more than any other has for me. I found myself, throughout the book, relating the character to myself and realizing that much of it was descriptions about those little things that many of us think but wouldn't admit to in a million years. It was almost comforting to read because it captures all of those things we keep hidden in fear that if they were exposed we would die a lonely unloved hermit. Bravisimo!
Rating: Summary: Good writing about nothing. Review: This is one of the best written books about nothing I have ever read. The protagonist isn't even waiting for Godot and still manages to make time pass by being totally self-absorbed. This is not a book about men. It is about arrested development, and it's very funny.
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece that you`ll have in mind for a long time! Review: I was happy and thrilled while readig the book and even severels of weeks after. Nick Hornby has found the art of playing with words. Read it!!
