Rating: Summary: Best book I've ever read! Review: In my opinion this novel is a great one because of the mixture of suspense while at the same time you're getting edge of your seat excitment. Flynn when writing this book actualy went to Secret Service agents and ex Commandoes. In return for his efforts he has created a marvelous writing one which wil read again and again only to find out new information and details which I've missed. This book gets you curious even when reading the jacket which is a mere glimpse of what is to come in the rest of the book. Thank you very much for writing this wonderful book which I so deeply enjoyed.
Rating: Summary: A feel-good novel for our times Review: TERM LIMITS will appeal to those who think that most technothrillers unrealistically portray the government as full of selfless public servants. As in UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES by John Ross, the protagonists of this novel take creative and daring steps to make the statist government slugs realize just how very vulnerable they are. My only real complaint about this work is the author's decision to have the heroes be members of the Special Forces. The military is the last place you'd look for individual freedom, and career soldiers have actively chosen to live in this culture of control. If Flynn had made his protagonists a handful of fed-up civilians, it would have been much more plausible. If you can set aside this glaring lapse of logic, this book will make you chuckle, and you'll probably finish it in one sitting.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: Have read many books on DC politics and this ranks as one of the best.Or maybe it just says what many people say,i.e. that politics is for the politicians not for people.I had to keep reading this book which seems as if it was written by an insider, not a "local'
Rating: Summary: Totally engrossing. You just can't put it down. Review: WOW!!! I needed a book like this to get my mind off a hectic work shedule. It was the best book I've read in over a year. Everything you ever wished would happen to corrupt, self-serving politicians. I've recommended it to over 20 people, not to mention those who simply approached me on the train and asked for some insight about the plot. I read it in 1 week, just going to and from work. The story line is very detailed and extremely well researched. As you read, the story unfolds as if you were watching a movie. The author leads the reader but doesn't completely give the ending away. By the end of the book, I had already picked out the actors who I thought should star in the movie.
Rating: Summary: A super political thriller Review: A political thriller from start to finish.Michael O'Rourke is the new Jack Ryan!
Rating: Summary: What an exciting, engaging, fast paced story. Review: I don't know where Vince Flynn came from, but for the first time in a long time I found myself unable to put a book down. I read it in two days, I had to find out what was going to happen next. I have read a lot of books from this genre and I think this is one of the best.
Rating: Summary: A thril a minute Review: Though Minnesota Congressman Michael O'Rourke is a newcomer to the House of Representatives, he already abhors the under the table wheeling and dealing. So when a terrorist group assassinates three corrupt Congressmen, most of DC and the country are shocked. Michael isn't part of the majority, who sympathizes with their causes to balance the budget, cut taxes, and eliminate the federal corruption at any cost. Subsequently, other politicians are also killed. All the president's men have currently one interest: to keep their jobs by getting their man reelected. Being an opportunistic group and lacking basic morals, they soon embark on a series of murders that parallel the extremists with one difference. The president's men are eliminating the opposition to their man, while the extremists are eliminating anyone who is not part of the solution. Michael quickly realizes what is going on and even who the extremists are, but by keeping quiet he secretlt supports their cause. Fans of governmental conspiracies and anti-DC fervor will love Vince Flynn's debut political thriller. Though clearly a jingoistic outlook, the fast-paced story line is crisp and interesting. The characters, especially Michael, appear a bit naive, but that actually adds to the non-stop excitement. Fans of political thrillers like those of Tom Clancy will love TERM LIMITS and want more work from Mr. Flynn. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Great, but some flaws! Review: This was my first reading of a book by Vince Flynn. I found the book very enjoyable, and now I must admit being hooked to him as I am other greats such as Stephen King and John Grisham. There is one major flaw with Term Limits. Mr. Flynn goes to great length to write about the massive protection given to each member of the House and Sentate after the initial assasinations. However, he writes about Congressman O'Rourke traveling all over the place and never mentions that any protection is either guarding him or watching his every move. Although this is a major flaw in the book, I still highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: An overly contrived premise. Review: First of all, Term Limits by Vince Flynn does have some good aspects to it. For example, it contains a discussion of how the CIA has come to depend on technological information gathering while neglecting development of human assets on the ground. Anyone who owns a TV or occasionally reads a newspaper knows that now. But in the 90's, when this book was written, that information was not common knowledge. So Flynn obviously did his homework, at least to some extent. Unfortunately, whatever merit Term Limits might have is completely overshadowed by the novel's very preposterous premise. Flynn would have the reader believe that a small band of former navy SEALs would be so enraged over the federal government's unwillingness to balance the budget, they would resort to serial assassination as a means of getting it to do so. The idea of a balanced federal budget is an abstract and sterile concept. It's just not the kind of issue that would engender the degree of passion necessary to motivate people to kill. Term Limits is flawed as a work of fiction because its premise is way too far-fetched.
Rating: Summary: Plausible in every way! Review: Term Limits is fast paced and filled with scenarios that both can and probably have happened. This realistic view of political power makes events that seem impossible to the once naïve public feasible and all too real. Assassinations rock the U. S. President, Secret Service, Cabinet, FBI, and CIA when three are carried out on a single night. Ignoring the ultimatum issued by the "terrorists" causes a fourth man to die and puts the President in the line of fire. Fear triggers tempers as the administration determines if it should make changes that yield to blackmail? Then two more men are murdered, but where only the four specific targets were taken out in the first wave, these also include law enforcement guards. Questions power the plot; drama moves it forward; action demands reading even though your eyes are tired and burn; the characters are interesting and multi-dimensional. *Why isn't the budget balanced? *Why do the Republicans and Democrats care more about special interest groups than the constituents who voted them in? * Who has the power in the White House? * Who runs Black Ops, and what power is used to maintain the secrecy of an organization in their clandestine operations. * Is anyone capable of controlling them, and are personal agendas the root of military and covert actions? * Is this story too real to be ignored? * How many groups are behind the assassinations? Any spare minute found me reading this novel. When I finished it, I was satisfied. The story was complete, the questions answered, I am interested in what's next for these characters -- they became real. Five stars to Vince Flynn, and the knowledge that I will buy more of his books. Victoria Tarrani
