Rating: Summary: Nice first effort; needs to improve dialogue Review: Very interesting idea for a plot. The last 100 pages were full of action. However, Flynn needs to work on his dialogue. It was stilted in many instances. There was a lot of repetition in the first 300 pages. Characters seemed to say and do the same things over and over. It was a nice first effort, but work is needed to step up to the level of a Tom Clancy.
Rating: Summary: an insider's guide to Washington politics! Review: ...a political thriller that gives the reader an idea of 'inside the beltway' thinking and workings. Vince Flynn has captured the essence of corrupt politics and I can hardly wait for his next book!
Rating: Summary: Great concept; Great Plot; Writing skills need improvement Review: Mr. Flynn has come up with one of the most original story lines and political "solutions" in many a generation, one which most of his readers will find compelling. However, his writing skills need to be improved to take it to the next level.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding, the action and suspense never let up Review: Mr. Flynn's first novel is sure to be a hit . An exciting combination of action and suspense. The author's view of the Washington political scene, where perception and spin are more important than reality, is right on the mark. The best book I have read this year.
Rating: Summary: Action-filled political novel Review: A great book for those who love a political thriller. The book immediately gets you hooked and then keeps you interested throughout. It doesn't have the constant surprises that other novels have, but keeps you on the edge with many sub plots occurring. Fast reading, enjoyable, couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: One Of The Few Hardbacks I Have Not Regretted Buying. Review: I enjoyed the mixture of politics and tense murder/mystery plot. I am aquainted with politics and enjoyed the realistic portrayal of power. I am not as well versed in the military or intelligence aspects, but found them to be well written and with great details.
Rating: Summary: An action-packed, can't put it down thriller!!!! Review: Vince Flynn has the ability to take the best of Tom Clancy's military writing and apply it to the current political scene in Washington, as well as tie in to the political angst in this country. I couldn't put it down. I finished the book in three sittings!
Rating: Summary: Similar to Grisham & every bit as good Review: This book is a page turner. A great story about one man's mission to avenge his military unit while at the same time attempting to correct the national government. Vinve Flynn is a gifted story teller and I can't wait for his next book.
Rating: Summary: Flynn won't be an unknown much longer Review: I found this political thriller to be an absolute page turner. Vince Flynn has woven an intricate plot with an engaging cast of characters. The lead character, Michael O'Rourke, has engaged in a cloak & dagger mission to avenge our political leaders' abandonment of our founding fathers' dream. Flynn, in his debut novel, captures the audience with the first line of the book, and doesn't let go until the last page has turned. Flynn's style of writing is fresh and quick. Clearly, he researches every detail.
Rating: Summary: A Joke--cut-rate Clancy for morons. Review: I can't believe anyone actually liked this dreck...True, I can see where Joe America might relate to bumping off the Ted Kennedys in D.C., but let's face it, this should be real life we're dealing with. I cannot in all good conscience recommend this to anyone with an I.Q. over 75. Stick with Jack Ryan--at least Clancy can construct a readable sentence!
