Rating: Summary: Pretty interesting like watching tv in my head Review: I like it. I can't put it down to do my homework. I like the part about Remy Duvall and her powerful rich husband even though he is a bad-ass, and I think it reads well. Fast, Interesting although I don't belived some of it would ever happen in real life. And if it could then I like being convinced that it could.
Rating: Summary: Another great from Sandra Brown Review: I have read several of Sandra Brown's books over the last few months and can't say anything bad about any of them. I have found that I prefer the romantic suspense/mystery over straight romance. So this was another great choice! As always, the characters and plot were well detailed and became very real. I had to give 4 stars because it wasn't too hard to figure out who was involved with what and what would happen next. However it was still a great page turner and I liked the relationship that developed between Remy & Burke. ... If you want realism, read NON-fiction. Some other romantic suspense recommendations are: "Slow Heat in Heaven" "Where There's Smoke" "Breath of Scandal" "French Silk"
Rating: Summary: Slow start, Great ending Review: Burke Basille is one of a few good men, a cop in New Orleans Narcotic Department trying to bring the bad to justice. When a drug bust goes horribly wrong, and the Justice Department fails him, Burke quits his job in order to get the bad guys, including rotten cops, no matter the cost. The characters we great, you really got a sense on who they are and why they are the way they are. I gave this book four stars because the beginning was very slow and I had to force myself to stay interested. But from about the middle on I couldn't put the book down. The ending fully made up for the slow start, I'm glad I kept reading!
Rating: Summary: Well done! Review: Very good is all I have to say! This book was great, I loved it.
Rating: Summary: great audio book ! Review: A very good mystery/adventure story. I think it would make a great movie.Sandra Brown has some very interesting characters in this book. And Stephen Lang reading it really makes the characters come to life. I can just picture Burke and Remy in that cabin in the swamp. The story keeps you interested from begining to the very end.
Rating: Summary: Another Side of Sandra! Review: Having read just about all of Sandra Brown's romance novels (in fact, she was the first romance novelist I ever read who was literate and knew how to create a plot), I got a bit miffed when she turned to mysteries. My thought was: You are great at what you do, but what makes you think you can compete with the "big boys"? Oh, how wrong I was. I picked up "Fat Tuesday" in a collection of older paperbacks, and took it with me on a trip from Philadelphia to Houston. I figured it would be mindless enough to distract me from my fear of flying. Again, I was wrong. It not only distracted me, I FORGOT I was flying. This fast-paced, finely plotted, zingy trip through the seamier side of New Orleans is one of the better police dramas I have read. The villain, Duvall, is as chillingly evil as any mafia chieftain (the scene where he crushes a collection of rare and beautiful orchids beneath his heel because of an imagined imperfection says it all). The hero, Burke Basile, is gritty, brilliant, hard-boiled--and vulnerable, a tough-as-nails cop who can't forgive himself for accidentally shooting his partner to death in a drug raid gone wrong. The showdown between the two men, which comprises most of the book, makes it impossible to stop reading. There are enough plot twists and interesting side characters to keep the story barreling along, and yet, even though you know what has to happen, it comes as a complete surprise anyway. This is a great summer read, and I now plan on reading Brown's other mysteries straightaway.
Rating: Summary: Being a huge SB fan, this was excellent. Review: For "cop-turned-outlaw" Burke Basille, and for beautiful Remy Duvall, trapped in a loveless marriage, New Orlean's Mardi Gras offers the last chance for freedom and each other! Great story of revenge!
Rating: Summary: SANDRA STOMPS THE COMPETITION! Review: My first novel mystery/ suspense novel by Sandra Brown was great! I always thought that she was pure romance but someone suggested Fat Tuesday to be a mystery and said that there was other non-romance novels by Sandra Brown, so I tried her out! I loved the whole story a lot. Mrs. Brown had a great evil nemesis in the story, Pinkie Duvall, who was a drug trader and a very powerful attorney, protecting the criminals. The other side of the coin was Burke Basile who vows to get revenge against Mr. Duvall because of the death of his partner in a drug bust. A wonderful novel the whole way through. So more MYSTERY novels by Sandra Brown are Unspeakable, The Alibi, Standoff, and The Switch. I will now read these. I hope Sandra continues to write more mystery!
Rating: Summary: A concentration on more action, less relationship Review: Sandra Brown is a fabulous storyteller and Fat Tuesday is very well written. However, I felt as if the plot concentrated so much more on Burke Basile and Pinkie Duval. And the point of view was basically limited to these characters. Most of the information the reader learns about the heroine is through another character's eyes and thoughts. As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly, the point of view NEVER even enters into the mind of Remy. Big mistake--how can the reader sympathize and like this woman if we don't even know what goes on in her mind? Sandra Brown's fictional, larger novels are my favorite because they have a mix of danger and romance. Unfortunately, Fat Tuesday only serves up danger.
Rating: Summary: Murder & Mayhem & Love Review: I like Brown's murderous streaks. In "Fat Tuesday", she captures all of that and still keeps her sense of romance. So descriptive, I felt as if I were reading it atop a vine covered New Orleans balcony with warmed powdered sugar all over my lips. Yum.
