Rating: Summary: Some new mixed with the old Review: This book, as with all EJD's books was very well done. It had some familar situations (male/female relationships, drama) as well as a few flair. The new flair for me was the relationships with the fathers and daughters. Having come from a home without a father present and being divorced and raising my daughter as a single parent, I could really relate to Vince and what he was going thru with Kawanzza and the relationship his friend Womack had with his daughter. The story goes on to point out how some women (Dana) don't deal well with men who have kids and try to make the man choose between the two. How women (Malaika)lie to their kids, denying them of their natural fathers just to satisfy their own need to be with a man. There was also a lil reversing of that issue with Naiomi and her son...the father had custody. Gerri symbolizes what single female parents have to sometimes do just to make ends meet because the fathers don't/won't pay child support. The book was deep and this time not just about a troubled love affair gone sour. So, when's the next book?
Rating: Summary: EJD HAS DONE IT AGAIN Review: This is the story of Vince and Dana who meet in a bar, fall in love, fall out of love and then fall in love again. I enjoyed the storyline, especially the location of where the characters lived--right in my own backyard, so to speak. The book was a good read, with plenty of drama, drama, drama. One thing that I did notice missing from this book was the humor. As in EJD's other books (all of which I have read and loved) he had a lot of funny and witty remarks, I did not see alot of that in this book. Oh well, I still enjoyed it. Even Dana the one that was totally getting on my nerves, in the end I liked her, I really liked her. (smile) Continued success and blessings to EJD. Hurry up with the next one. Peace!
Rating: Summary: Drama! Drama! Drama! Drama! Review: Once again he's proven that he got SKILLS! I didn't expect to be disappointed with this one - and I wasn't at all! Eric's way of developing characters and relationships is superb. I often wonder if he knows his characters personally - in his friends that is. I really liked Gerri a whole lot. I think that sista handled her business. Now Dana had some serious issues and was FULL OF DRAMA. Dang I wish I could hook Vince up with a friend of mine. Now Vince's baby's momma needed a behind whooping! LOL This one would make a good movie. I would love to see who plays the landlords - hehehehe! The lesson in this one - well if I told you I would give the story away sooooo JUST GET THE BOOK! Eric - I am waiting on the next one!
Rating: Summary: Can't No One Work The Metaphors Like Dickey! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Liars Game. Dickey has done it again with a well-written storyline; witty, sassy and humorous dialogue; vivid characters and multi-plot twist and turns. Liar's Game is set in the familiar setting of Los Angeles and Dickey's graphic descriptions do justice to the City of Angels...I felt like I was right there partying, working and walking the streets of LA with the characters. Liar's Game revolves around Dana and Vince two lonely hearts looking for Mr. and Ms. Right in of all places a nightclub. We're quickly submersed in their relationship as they proceed feet first into a quick move-in/living arrangement and engagement...and as time moves forward the relationship plunges into DRAMA, DRAMA, and more DRAMA with both parties being at fault. Past lies, sexual partners, videotapes and secrets in the closets are busting at the seams and busting loose. Of course, the storyline would not be complete without twisting sub-plots involving the usual suspects of best girlfriend and best male friend along with ex spouse and ex significant others. All of who add flavor and spice to the storyline. I was as engrossed in the secondary characters as I was the main characters. The characters were all so real; I knew these people. As such my emotions ran the gamut as I experienced betrayal, heartbreak, revenge, seduction, redemption and oh-so-sweet real love via the Liar's Game. Liar's Game is a fast-paced and easy to read novel filled with much substance and insight, and brimming with intense, honest emotions. Yes this was an excellent read for me and now that I've gotten my Dickey fix for 2000 I can sit back and anxiously await what's in store for 2001.
Rating: Summary: Liar's Game Review: This latest book is a MUST read. The main characters Dana and Vince roles appears to be very real. The compassion that EJD puts in their voices is phenomenal. I laughed and I cried. The romance and the love scenes, had me going "Uh-Huh" I feel you. Harmonica, added many words of wisdom. And Gerri with all her drama was very interesting. I have all of EJD books (autographed of course) and I anxiously anticipate the next BEST SELLER. Keep the Great books coming. Thanks for keeping it real. Luv Ya in Hot-Lanta,GA
Rating: Summary: Liar's Game Review: Liar's Game is an excellent novel and is one of Eric Jerome Dickey's best. It can be taken as purely entertaining- filled the action, drama, comedy, and despair, yet, it can also lead the reader to self-reflection through the way the characters deal with and resolve several personal issues and conflicts. Liar's Game deals with fears of abandonment and rejection. It dramatizes the uneasiness that results from the inconsistency between a person's attitudes and their actions. It deals with regrets over choices made in the past. It also shows the bonds of true friendship, dedication to family, and the value of commitment. From the descriptions of the people attending the social event at the beginning of the novel to Luther Vandross singing in the background of one of the major characters' conversations, Liar's Game is filled with resounding symbolism that both deeply touched me and kept me captivated from start to finish. To me, Liar's Game stands out from most contemporary novels as a "modern-day classic". It contains themes and issues that are both universal as well as able to withstand the tests of time. It is a book that is quite enjoyable if read leisurely, but it can also be examined closely to reveal more profound themes and meanings. It is definitely a "must read" on either level.
Rating: Summary: Liked It/Hated It Review: Liar's Game is one of those books that you like and dislike at the same time. It wasn't one of the ususal boy meets girl and acts like a punk throughout the whole courtship to get her. This book truly had DRAMA, but there were points that were truly boring and didn't add any value to the story line. Vince and Dana had some genuine issues that people today are dealing with, but there lives were to fairy-taleish. Womack, Rosa Lee and Hurricane didn't really distract from the story but they surely didn't make it exciting either. I think what Rosa Lee had to say to Dana at the end made the most sense of any of the advice Dana got in the whole book. But truly, Butter, Jefferson and Gerri didn't add much, just that everyone has some secret in their lives that is waiting to burst out. The book was entertaining but it was a pure struggle to get through some parts. What ever happens to Claudio, that was just comedic!
Rating: Summary: Dickey's a Favorite! Review: I have read all of EJ Dickey's books and I've never been disappointed. It's sad that the norm in many relationships is to start off with one lie right after another. I was so glad that Vince and Dana decided to give their "love" another chance. They didn't start the relationship with a fair chance to begin with. I must admit, Dana had me pretty pissed off when it was thought that she burned the pictures of Vince's daughter. I yelled, "get rid of her she's nuts!" Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and as always will patiently await the next one!
Rating: Summary: Disappionted Review: I have read all of EJD's books and whenever I finshed one I was always left wanting more. Not the case this time. At the turn of each page I kept asking when are we going to get going. We never did! Midway through the book I found myself reading faster and faster just get through with it. Alot of empty pages. I know that EJD can do better, and I hope that his next work will show it.
Rating: Summary: He Scores Another Hit Review: I am a very big fan of Eric Jerome Dickey and he has done it again with "Liars Game". Again, this book is true to life in the struggles of ordinary people. As always, this book has something for everyone.
