Rating: Summary: Another Great Book by EJD Review: What can I say...I'm a BIG fan of EJD's writing style and he has yet to disappoint me after 5 great books(not that I expected to be disappointed) :-) Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: Sex, Lies, Babies and Ex-Wives Review: The fifth novel from Eric Dickey treads familiar yet unfamiliar territory in this LA-based story about a man and woman who are trying to build a romantic relationship. Due to some equal opportunity fibbing, at first things between Vince and Dana start out a little shaky. Once they get over their initial reservations, their love connection looks more promising. It's only when Vince and Dana decide they want to jump the broom that their commitment is tested and the couple are forced to deal with the consequences of holding back vital information from each other about their past romances. Likes: What I loved most about this story is the eloquent and emotional prose; especially when it came to Vince's feelings about his concern for Kwanzaa, his five-year old daughter; a daughter whom he hasn't laid eyes on in years. Midway during LG, Vince goes through quite a few changes that, unfortunately, makes one think he doesn't have the most upright character on earth. Yet I admired how the writer showed Vince's frustration regarding how much control his ex-wife wanted to exert when it came to his participation in Kwanzaa's life. I admired the depth of emotions Vince portrayed concerning that situation. Other: I was somewhat surprised at the amount of narrative the writer used in certain beginning passages. In my opinion, one of his greatest strengths is dialogue and I enjoy the flow that is provided when things are in that conversational zone. Also there are quite a few characters in this story and I had a helluva time keeping up with who was who and what role they played in LG. Then, to be honest, although there were many references made to Vince and Dana, the writer could have dug deeper to show multiple layers to their relationship: for people who claimed to love each other, their relationship seemed a little superficial. For e.g., he could have shown various struggles between them that brought out more positive results (trust, loyalty, endurance, etc.) In summary, I know in my heart LG isn't the writer's best work, but it is still worthwhile. And, in contrast to some of the other reader comments, I thought the story ended well and I had no problem with it.
Rating: Summary: The Drama unfold with a touching story ! Review: One of the reader has said this is a story of Sex,lies,ex-wifes and yes babies ! This is definitely True.....and the drama certainly unfolds ! Vince part of the story was a touching and moving one for me ! I could feel his pain with the tears tickling down my face . I keep wondering how could Malaika keep her daughter from her father like that ! He was a man trying to do the right thing, and for her mother to even take part in her daughter's wrong doing was so unfair ! Especially when it was Malaika's indiscretions that put them there ! This was a heartfelt story not only for those charaters but some of the other characters as well ! The drama was on ! Get this one read it and then you 'll need somebody to discuss it with ! A great bookclub selection for discussion !
Rating: Summary: Great Book , but not my favorite EDJ book . Review: Like his other books Mr. Dickey takes you on unbelivable ride . Of love , lies , lust . I really enjoyed this book . It exmaines three different types of relationship, helps you understand the good and the bad parts of love and relationships . I like this book , but it's not my favorite. Now for me cheaters is his best book to date . Don't get me wrong this book is a page turner too. This was an excellent read I can't wait for his next book . I hope it will take us back to revisit some of the old character. Once again Mr. Dickey It was a pleasure A Big Fan Sunny
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I loved the book. Yes it left some unsolved issues but all EJD fans know his stories end 'happily ever after'. And I thought 300 pages was enough. Yes I would've liked to have gotten more info or Gerri and whether or not Rosa Lee was cheating. Those are basics. I guess that's what makes EJD such a good writer, you have to draw some of your own conclusions from the clues that he provided for you. It's a good book, realistic, Dana is a little evil at times and not all girls from the East Coast are like that, ERIC! All and all, my book club loved it, my co-workers are currently running through it. It was wonderful! I look forward to his next piece.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the others, but okay Review: I was glued to this book and read in over the course of two days, but I think it was because I was waiting for it to get better. I wasn't satified with the Malaika/Kwanzaa storyline and didn't really understand the significance of the Juanita/ Naoimi characters. Don't get me wrong, I am a big EJD fan and have read each one of his books. However, this one pales in comparison to his other books. I like that EJD creates male characters that we sympathize with and end up caring about, but can we get a female lead that's not crazy for once? Overall, it was okay at best. Satifying read, but left me wanting for a whole lot more.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: Mr. Dickey has written another hit! I could not put the book down. You start to lose yourself in the story. You feel as if he is talking about your own relationship. He gets inside your head and makes you really think. Now I see why Eric is on the New York Times Best Seller list. Liars Game is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Liar's Game Review: A strong adrenaline rush! Eric Jerome Dickey has mastered the art of manipulating words. This fast paced novel captivates you immediately. The characters and dialogue paint a realistic picture of the type of dysfunction that results when deception, fear, and dysfunction are brought to the table at the beginning of relationship. While the characters all appear to be selfish and insecure in one or another. The plot is believable in that it touches the core of the chaos and drama that almost always results in relationships when unresolved pain and personal insecurities are present. A dynamic read!
Rating: Summary: EJD has done it again! Review: I found the book a page turner. The passion Dana and Vince had for eachother was soooo real. I could just see it! Of course there will be obstacles that come up, they always do. The way the characters handled them was excellent. Rosa Lee and Womack's characters added something extra to the book about the black family. They don't always have to be single parents on welfare. Vince doing his part without even seeing his child made me furious. I was with Dana, TAKE HER TO COURT! But I don't want to give the book away. There are some twist and turns so be ready and stay focused. I highly recommend the book and all of his other: SS, F&L, MIMC and Cheaters. Happy reading! :)
Rating: Summary: As Good As it Gets Review: I loved this book and I know all of you will too. For all those eagerly anticipating Eric Jerome Dickey's new novel, it as good as the others. I like the fact that the author writes about relationships as they are and not how they should be. The novel is one of his best to date but does not overshadow his last "Cheaters". I think as a reader you will fall in love with his characters. I also commend him for tackling such issues as abortion, single parenthood, divorce, and a father's love for his child. I loved that the main character cared so much for his child and did not hide from his financial and emotional responsibility as a parent. So all in all this book is worth every penny.
