Rating: Summary: Intense. Poetic. Earthy. Beautiful. Inspiring. Review: This novel is so multi-faceted. I was never "bored" or dissapointed at any part of the novel. What a beautiful statement about the power of words.

Rating: Summary: Talking to the dead has never been done like this before. Review: I have read all sorts of books that use contact between living and dead. But, this one is so different it takes the horror away. You really feel the dead characters are real, only in a different and transient condition. And, the fact that it's a disfigured person who can so beautifully communicate with the dead, warms my soul. It's one of the most wonderful books I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: Theatre of the Grotesque Review: Prior to reading "A Gracious Plenty" I had read the "Rapture of Canaan". What a blessed author! I absolutely love her style and "A Gracious Plenty" was so poetic and grotesque at the same time I found myself reading and re-reading different parts of the book. A glorious read. . .I'll never look at a cemetery in quite the same way. . .Finch Nobles is a beautiful character. Read it!! Your soul will thank you.
Rating: Summary: My latest favorite book Review: I stumbled across this book at my local library and went to bed early every night until it was finished. I know so many of these characters and could appreciate the struggles that they were going through. The relationship between the cross-dressing "bum" and the baby touched me so deeply that I cried. It was so unexpected and almost perverse, but it has haunted me ever since. Although I know that this is purely a work of fiction, I keep thinking that if it were only true, there would be no reason to fear death. S. Reynolds' prose is mesmerizing, and I will reccomend this book to anyone who asks.
Rating: Summary: Marvellous! Review: I just finished A Gracious Plenty a few days ago and I loved it. Sheri Reynolds has an amazingly unique writing style, and I look forward to seeing more of her work. I thought Finch Nobles was a very extraordinary character. I know this is a book I will recommend to all my friends and want to read again and again.
Rating: Summary: A thoroughly satisfying read! Review: Yes!! I just finished this book 5 minutes ago, and I'm still basking in it's afterglow. I just love it when I find a book that is this well written. "A Gracious Plenty" is pure pleasure!
Rating: Summary: I thought it was interesting, and a fresh view of things. Review: I read this book for my Death and Dying class in school. I go to a Catholic school. So that was our religion course. When i first read it I thought it was kinda weird and I really didnt get what the author was trying to say. But then I got the idea of what Sheri Reynolds thought of the afterlife. Or her view of it rather. She thinks that rather then going to heaven, hell, or purgatory like most children are taught if their parents are of Christian, or Catholic faith. She believes that the souls of passed away people stay on earth to service those who still live. In a way I like that idea because who wants to think that after you die you turn into worm food? I dont. Or that you might go to a place where your forced to wait, or sentenced to an eternity of pain and suffering. Doesnt sound like fun to me. Cause lets face it the average person does sin and most of the time isnt sorry for it. So they probably wouldnt get into heaven. I can tell to all those reading this that I certianly get in there. So this authors idea of servicing those who live is a comforting thought. However, to think that you do all this work, and not get any thanks for it seems odd. I know that is the selfish part of humans, the part that wants and needs to be recognized, and craves attention. I suppose though that working until your upgraded to the next step of your salvation and the thought of saving yourself is praise enough. I think the end for me was heart wrenching and yet happy in ways. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to rethink their faith and wonders if there is something else then what the bible or church tells us. Don't get me wrong I'm not some holy roller, trying to impose faith on anyone. I'm just a regular 17 year old kid, thinking and wondering about life. Have a good day now ^_^
Rating: Summary: A very promising novel well worth reading. Review: The main character of the novel, Finch Nobels, was a victim of third-degree burn. When she was four years old, she pulled a pot of boiling water off her mother's stove and received burns on her face and shoulders. Since her early teens, she had the ability to talk and see the spirits of the dead who lived in her graveyard. This novel expresses the relationship we have between the living and the dead very clear and realistic. I believe that there are people in this world that have the ability to communicate to both worlds.
