Rating: Summary: GORE'S LEGACY Review: Al Gore is a good man. Al Gore is an honest man. This may have been his problem. As an honest man, he found himelf at odds with the Clintons. Try as he might, he is linked to them, and this is the nexus of his demise. Whereas Clinton enjoyed popularity without coattails, Gore lacked the popularity and the coattails. Everything the Clinton/Gore team has touched since November, 2000 has been hurt by association with them. Gore lost the election. Joe Lieberman, his V.P., found his honesty drowned out in a sea of misinformation. Hillary tried to speak to firefighters and was bood off the stage after 9/11. Gore's book did poorly. Clinton/Gore campaigned for Democrats in 2002 and they were swamped. Clinton campaigned for Gray Davis in 2003 and he was beaten back. Gore spoke about global warming on the coldest day in New York City in 150 years, then endorsed "The Day After Tomorrow" as a big movie about global warming that has to be seen. It was so bad, got such terrible reviews, and was so universally panned as lies that it cannot be described herein. Gore has now taken to podiums, changing his voice to sound like Huey Long or George Wallace or some such Southern populist, rolling his r's, leavin' the "n's" off his words, and every time he makes these speaches those he opposes rise in the polls. Al said he "had" to be President, and now he just seems unable to accept his fate. STEVEN TRAVERS AUTHOR OF "BARRY BONDS: BASEBALL'S SUPERMAN" STWRITES@AOL.COM
Rating: Summary: The Gores Touched My Heart Review: This is a book that describes the essence of family. It is about being there for each other. It is about loving through bad and good times. It is about a bond that cannot be broken by miles or time, and it goes beyond blood. That is the message one receives upon reading this very introspective book. It also gives a closer look at the Gore family, and the love Al and Tipper shared with their own children. So many times those on the right in this country who beat their Bibles, try to preach to people that they corner the market on family, love, and morality. They only show their intolerance however, by attacking a family man and real Christian like Al Gore, who sees Christ's message of loving thy neighbor as thyself and puts it into action. A family is a mother, father, and children, yes, but it can also be an Aunt, an Uncle, or a friend. Anyone who gives us the love and support we need, and nurtures us through the important days of our lives, is our family. Al and Tipper Gore weaved this theme well in their book, Joined At The Heart, and they touched mine.
Rating: Summary: Use This Instead of Ipecac to Induce Vomiting Review: I wish Mr. Gore had imbibed more of a biblical foundation during his growing up years in the Bible belt.
He uses the thesis, that the only thing which creates familial bonds is luvvvvv, to then say that families come in all shapes and forms....2 daddies, or 2 mommies...ughhhhh!
It is no accident that in the book of Genesis, the creation of the familial bond is linked to the sexual act between a man and a woman. "A man shall be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh." In the New Testament, Paul interprets this sexually, arguing that for this reason one should not sleep with a prostitute inasmuch as you would be becoming "one flesh" with her.
So, the Gores need to repent, return to the biblical foundation, and realize that luvvvvvvvvv is not the sole nexus where familial bonds are released. It is equally in the coming together sexually of male and female.
But then, if he were to say that, he would make certain "families" feel bad. Then he would lose part of his political support. Then he would be called "bigoted" "racist" "homophobe" and "dumb."
Rating: Summary: This Book Shows Tolerance is Big Issue Review: This was a wonderfully refreshing book. It's so important to teach our children tolerance in this day and age where there is too much competition, warfare and discrimmination. I hope my son Ryan reads this book some day and realizes that what the Gores are saying is not just politically correct garbage as the extremist republicans would say. The message in this book is similar to what Ghandi meant when he said "All men are brothers." In elementary school, my son got an award for friendship and tolerance. I would hope some bigots and racists in this country who fail to see we are all one family would start to get it. Jesus commanded us to love one another. This book took guts to write, and I'm proud of the Gores.
Rating: Summary: tipper was tippsy and al was fuzzy Review: Can't sleep, don't read this - it is so pathetic that even gore supporters will be embarassed... The premise is that we (you, me, our parents-children-grandparents-friends-etc can learn something from tipper and al about life. gore ... have hit the big time with this one - they are the ... . Yes, sure al wants the democrats to beg him to run for president in 2004 and this book is meant to present a jimmy carter like image (read that as: i am a great person, a meaningful person, an humanitarian.. really, i am honest and caring - please love me)... and by the way, the love of my life, tipper my wife, is a really, really significant person too, please love her too. anyway, this book is not worth the recycled paper it was created on....enjoy
Rating: Summary: Give them a break! Review: Al and Tipper Gore are two of the most thoughtful and decent people I have ever had the honor to know. I attended one of their Family Reunion conferences (the reason this book came to be) this past fall and was extremely moved by the very real and touching testimonials of some of the participants. Whatever party you belong to, no one can deny that Al Gore was a good, decent and honest public servant who dedicated 24 years of his life to the service of his country. Joined at the Heart is thoughtful and well written. It is o.k. to not like the book, but it is not o.k. to write a review attacking him for mistakes he didn't make or for the faults of any other public servants. These reviews are meant to help readers decide whether to read or not to read. When you use the opportunity to attack him simply because you don't agree with his politics you do other readers a disservice.
Rating: Summary: I AM EATING CAKE--CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE!!!! Review: These Gores are wonderful. And this delightful book is a real eyepopper. I used to think former VP Gore was a misplaced alien or a very boring robot based on my impression from watching political debates or the nighly news (I am very in tune with current affairs (affairs being an operative word)). Boy was I wrong. He and his lovely wife Tipsy (who I heard once had an axe to grind against the heavy metal music industry) have written a book that turns the whole concept of marriage on it's rotund rump. That's right, with the philandering philosophy proffered in this tour de force, I have all the tools I need to convince my schoolmarmish wife Bessie that it's OK to marry just about anyone (or anything)--as long as we're joined at the heart (or anyplace else). You should have seen her face when I told her I planned on marrying two of my girlfriends from the bar (I'd describe it as incredulous, or perhaps furious). She'd always turned a blind, angry eye toward my antics (basically, she denied the existence of Roxy, Tiffany, Body-body or any of the girls I see on the sly--this despite overwhelming evidence and my clumsy attempts at subterfuge), but once I confronted her with the unflappable logic of the Gores I knew I was onto something (literally). According to this guide (and that's what it is folks!), the only requirement I need for marriage is true looooove. And I have a lotta that. Makes sense to me. And now that I know it, I plan to act on it. Of course, the pastor who married Bessie and me has refused my pleas to preside on any additional marriages (some silly thing about God's law). I tried to get him to marry me and my favorite six-pack (which I truly looove), but he said "NO". Well, if only the whole world could see it Al and Tipper's way, there'd be a lot more love to go around. Think of the love. Really.
