Rating: Summary: A compelling story Review: Lifted Up By Angels by Lurlene McDaniel was one of the best books that I have ever read. The story of Leah Lewis-Hall was one of the most heart-throbbing stories that Lurlene McDaniel has written. Leah was diagnosed with cancer in the previous book and while she was was in the hospital she met a girl that was also diagnosed with cancer. Rebekah Longacre is an amish girl that stayed with Leah in the hospital. Rebekah has an older brother named Ethan and an older sister named Charity. Rebekah looks up to Leah as her best friend because they share the same problem, cancer. A problem that only victims understand the pain of. Because of Rebekah, Leah meets Ethan. Leah and Ethan form strong feelings for each other, but the only problem is Ethan is Amish and Leah is English. Also, Ethan's father does not like the idea that Leah is "English". Charity is Ethan's sister, and Charity and Leah become very close friends. Charity helps Leah understand the complications of her Amish family, and also helps Leah understand Ethan. This story takes place in the 90's in a little town called Nappannee. Leah has come up to this town for the summer to work and also to see Ethan, whom she hasn't seen since the stay in the hosipital the previous year. As Leah entered the barn, with Charity by her side her heart began to beat. She realized while gazing up at Ethan in the hay loft, the real reason she came to Nappannee was to see him. She had longed to see him since the last time they were together. As Ethan saw Leah he descended the ladder, and a very nervous Leah glanced back toward Charity for moral support. But Charity had slipped away to leave the two alone. While Leah was gazing at him, Ehtan expressed his feelings by quoting "My eyes have have been hungry for the sight of you." Leah began to tremble at her knees because of the excitement that overcame her as she heard these sweet words roll from his lips. This scene in the book is one of my favorites because it shows the amount of feelings the two characters have for each other. By knowing this, the pace of the book was set for me and also an idea on what the book was going to be dealing with. I would reccommend this book to romantics and people who enjoy a heart-throbbing read. This book is filled with emotions, suspense and a great story line. The reading isn't difficult but the emotion put into this book makes this a great compelling story.
Rating: Summary: I just couldn't put this book down, not that I'd want to! Review: I think that this novel is one of Lurlene's best. I just love the Ethan and Leah sega. I've also read and bought many of her other books and have enjoyed them just as much. This is a touching forbidden love story with many other interesting "complications". It made me become extremely interested in the differences of lifestiles of the Amish and the English. The changes of lifestyles is quite different, with one group longing to know what life would be like in the other group's world. I really enjoy the characters, especially Ethan and Rebeckah. Ethan reminds me of a really sweet guy that I've had the pleasure to know for a couple years, and Rebeckah reminds me of a cute little girl I babysit for named Holly. Hi Holly! Hi Tim! Don't get embarassed on me now, alright. Anyways, I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good cry.
Rating: Summary: i love this book Review: this book is a great book to read and it helps you to understand the hardships that some families have in their everyday life. i think it is really inspiriational and it can teach you things you may not have known.
Rating: Summary: Are There Really Angels? Review: If you don't believe in angels now then I bet you will by the time you read, Lifted Up By Angles. This is just one of the books from a trilogy. The order of this series is Angles Wathcing Over Me, Lifted Up BY Angels, and Until Angels Close My Eyes. All three books are about a girl named Leah and a young, amish boy named Ethan. In the first book, Leah and Ethan meet in a hospitol. Then when Ethan's siter is released from the hospitol, Ethan stops visiting and Leah wonders if she will ever see him again. In the second book, Lifted Up By Angels, leah ends up staying in a town near Ethan's home for the summer. Many magical and memorable things happend during that summer. Then it came time for Leah to go home for school. In the third book, Leah misses Ethan deeply and they find a way to be together. But, then Leah's step-father becomes ill...read them all to find out what happens. I definetly recomend reading this trilogy. These books are touching and heartwarming. Lurlene Mc Daniels is a great author. She writes books that are inspirational. I recomend her!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Lifted up by Angels is one of the best books I have ever read. It's one of those stories that's romantic, but isn't so mushy it makes you sick. Unlike most teen books, it actually relates to the real problems of today. It gives you an insight of how hard it is to have cancer, not dumb stuff like, "Omigosh! I have a huge zit before prom! My life is ending!" The story of Ethan and Leah also takes you into the world of the Amish. I've actually learned a lot about their culture from the book. Anyway, read it for yourself, only you can judge a book to your tastes. Also, were some of you people reading a different book called Angels Watching Over Me? The only reason Leah met Ethan is because Rebekah, Ethan's little sister, was Leah's roomate for her hospital stay when she got bitten by a brown recluse spider. Rebekah never had cancer and, as most of you know, never will. Pay attention when you read :)
Rating: Summary: Keep getting better as they go up Review: As you can gather from the name, in my oppinion the second book was much better than the first book. In this novel, Leah goes to work during the summer near the Amish community. She meets up with Ethan and Charity, and though things seem to be going good at first, many conflicts spring up during her stay. The more she falls for Ethan, the more problems seem to occur. You should deffinately read this book.
Rating: Summary: A heart so fragile but yet so strong Review: Love is a very powerful thing and that's what this book is all about. If you like romance this is the perfect book for you. Religion plays a big part in Leah Lewis-Hall's life. She believes that love conquers all and in some cases it does. "A heart so fragile but yet so strong." Everyone's heart is fragile but it's also strong. Leah stood her grounds for the strong love that she has for Ethan. Their feelings for each other are so strong that it conquered everything. To them, nothing else mattered. Their hearts were lifted by angels. They believed in many things and when they asked for help they got it. As you read this book you will understand more about the concepts of life and maybe it will help you understand the steps of love and a relationship. As I read this book I did not want to put it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Just always remember that there is always a guardian angel there for you no matter what choices you make in life.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: This was a great sequel! It had some sad parts though. I thought it did a great job of continuing the romantic journey of Leah and Ethan. It had a great ending as well. This book shows the true power of love better than any other book I've read.
Rating: Summary: Can't Put It Down... Review: Lifted Up By Angels has to be one of the best books I've read in quite a while. I've read several books by Lurlene McDaniel, my favorite author; and this book seems to be one of them that really sticks out in my mind. I love Lurlene's writing technique and I think she does a really good job portraying the feelings of the characters who come down with different illnesses in her stories. With my grandfather recently having passed away from cancer, I feel as though I can relate with characters in Lurlene's books. I like this story, specifically, for three reasons. As I mentioned, one of them being the fact that I can relate to the characters. Secondly, I really like when I can enjoy reading a book and learn a lot from it; in this case Amish ways. The third reason being...I like romance novels. In this story, Leah has a hard time seperating lust, love, and what's right vs. wrong. I definitely recommend reading this book!
Rating: Summary: Best Book Yet Review: Out of the whole "Angel" series, this is the best book yet. Its the summer time, and Leah takes a job near the Amish community that Ethan lives by so she can be near him again. Ethan is at the age that he can take a "fling" (he can have a taste of non-Amish live before commiting to the rules of the adult community). As the summer goes on, they get really, really close. But, when its finally over, what happens between Ethan and Leah. This book doesnt tell, so read "Until Angels Close My Eyes" to find out.
