Rating: Summary: Finally! Finally! Finally! Review: I absolutely LOVE this series; otherwise, I NEVER would have even considered buying a hardcover. I prefer smaller paperback books, but Ms. Brockmann can be credited for providing such an interesting world within a fictional US SEAL Team that I couldn't possibly wait for the paperback! I had to know how the outcome of the cliff-hanger from the last book. I had to know how Sam was going to win Alyssa back, after following their nail-biting, teeth-grinding exploits throughout the other books in this series. I had to know how the investigation would end and whether Sam's estranged wife and beloved daughter were really dead in that house!I'm happy to say Ms. Brockmann delivers on all those unanswered questions... once again providing a thrilling mystery interwoven with great characters and plenty of love. Old friends are revisited and new twists keep the pace going full throttle. And again, the flashbacks to a WWII romance are an added bonus. Thank goodness, Ms. Brockmann hasn't "Gone Too Far", but has plenty more stories of wonderful characters to tell. I now look forward to Max and Gina's story! But in the meantime, I'll reread the series start to finish... it's just that good! Worthy of keeping. For those who aren't familiar with the Ms. Brockmann's US SEALs... this team's tales are great stand-alone stories, but are even better as a series. Their stories are found in the following books (in order): 1. Unsung Hero about Lt Tom Paoletti 2. Defiant Hero about Lt JG John Nilsson 3. Over the Edge about Sr Chief Stan Wolchonok 4. Out of Control about SEAL Ken Karmody 5. Into the Night about Lt JG Mike Muldoon 6. Gone Too Far about Lt Roger "Sam" Starett She does have another series of 11 books on a different sexy SEAL team, some of which are being republished too. These are shorter books, without the interwoven flashbacks of the newer series. They are, so far: 1. Prince Joe about Lt Joe "Cat" Catalanotto 2. Forever Blue about Lt C. "Blue" McCoy 3. Frisco's Kid about Lt Alan "Frisco" Francisco and Night Watch (formerly published as Wild Wild Wes) about Chief Wes Skelly, which is coming in September 2003. (There are nearly a dozen books in this older series, so only the few above are easily obtainable. Hopefully the rest will be released again too???!!!)
Rating: Summary: Should be titled "Worth the Wait!" Review: I am a huge fan of Brockmann's Team 16 series; and like many of her fans, I was looking forward to Sam and Alyssa's story. And boy, it was worth the wait! And worth the money! GTF shows us Sam as a young boy becoming a man, which made me fall in love with the character. His history is mapped out and assists the reader to understand his past actions (which made many of the readers rather cranky!). GTF also addresses Alyssa's history and her relationship with Max. Sam and Alyssa's story is so rich! Action packed, snappy dialogue and steamy scenes! As usual, this book also follows other couples. I know some people do not like the historical threads in Team 16 books (I am a history buff and really enjoy them), I found this story to be important in GTF, because it deals with a couple of 2 different races; a common thread found in other couples in the book. Look for Max and Gina! Tom and Kelly! Another couple from "Into the Night." Nobody in romance writes such a textured story like Ms. Brockmann! She is one of the few "romance" writers I suggest for my friends who claim to not enjoy "romance" novels. My friends will have to buy their own copy of GTF, I am keeping this book on shelf (which is really the highest compliment I can give an author)!
Rating: Summary: Gone Too Far Review: This is the first book of Suzanne Brockmann that I came across at. The beginning was a little boring, but afterwards, the story got more and more exciting. I like the way the story is written - the suspense was great, the characters are fabulous, and overall, I'm very plesantly surprised w/ the impressive way this book was written. Of course this is my first encounter w/ the NAVY SEALS so everything felt so new and original. I'll definitely go check out her other books, and see if there is originality in every book that's written.
Rating: Summary: FINALLY... Sam & Alyssa's story... Review: "Gone Too Far" is the long-awaited story of Navy SEAL Roger "Sam" Starrett and FBI Agent Alyssa Locke, the secondary characters who were first introduced in Suzanne Brockmann's "The Unsung Hero", first of the SEAL Team Sixteen books. From the beginning, Brockmann was setting up her readers for a roller-coaster ride of emotions with two of her now most popular characters. Wreaking havoc on their personal feelings for each other, the professional paths of Sam and Alyssa continue to cross through each of Brockmann's SEAL Team Sixteen books. Their clashing relationship became intense and intimate for one night in "The Defiant Hero". Due to lack of communication and fear of their true feelings for each other, they try to put that intimate encounter behind them only to meet up again in "Over The Edge" and relive their passion. Just when a budding relationship was seemingly on the horizon, the unthinkable happens, putting an end to any further personal relationship that may have developed. A glimpse of Alyssa's turmoil is focused on in "Out of Control", when she runs into Sam when working with SEAL Team Sixteen again. "Into the Night" goes into further detail of Sam's miserable homelife. The latter two books try to show Sam and Alyssa trying to move on with their lives. Now in "Gone Too Far" Sam and Alyssa's story is told. It begins several months after "Into the Night" ends with Sam driving across the country to finalize personal matters. He stumbles across a dead body in a Sarasota home and discovers his daughter is missing. As a possible suspect in the murder and impatient to wait around to have the FBI solve this case, he goes off on his own to find his daughter. Alyssa risks her professional career and personal feelings to help Sam. Along this journey, they discover that they have never gotten over each other and finally come to terms with their feelings towards each other. Cleverly interweaving storylines and references from her previous books, Brockmann creates a story filled with emotion and suspense. SEAL Team Sixteen's quick-response to the assasination attempt in "Into the Night" questioned and is brought a subplot in "Gone Too Far". The secondary subplots are Tom and Kelly (the main characters in "The Unsung Hero") and Max and Gina (hostage negotiator and hostage, respectively, in "Over the Edge"). There is also back-in-time subplot (a Brockmann trademark) that involves a WWII romance, which ties with Sam's past. In "Gone Too Far", Sam and Alyssa's childhoods are explained and the reader has an understanding of how it has shaped them into the adults they are today. A good story on its own, it is highly recommended that the previous SEAL Team Sixteen books ("The Unsung Hero", "The Defiant Hero", "Over the Edge", "Out of Control", "Into the Night"), be read prior to further understand and appreciate the the trials and tribulations of the angst-ridden duo. Personally, I was beginning to dislike Sam, especially in "Into the Night". Brockmann has sucessfully redeemed him "Gone Too Far". Brockmann has spun a complex tale with different subplots all interweaving with each other. Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke fans will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Lucky for me my friends "forced" me to read this one ;) Review: I all honesty I was not looking forward to this book as I'd tired of the Sam/Alyssa romantic mess in a previous "Team Sixteen" book and had all intentions of skipping it. Sam Starrett, in my book, had morphed from a sexy hero type into a Class A jerk, a bad boyfriend, a terrible husband, a lousy father and an all around sad sack. Fortunately (as it turns out) my local book reading friends chose this as a reading selection and I forced myself to begin what I assumed would be an irritating read. Gone Too Far is a bit different in format than the previous books in the "Troubleshooter" series which were very much action/adventure romances and I've seen a few complaints that the beginning was too slow but this wasn't the case for me. It had been months since I read the last book in this series but I quickly fell back into the flow of things and was immediately hooked by the gripping characterization and the suspenseful plot line. The story opens as Sam is headed to his estranged wife Mary Lou's home to claim the signed divorce papers she promised him three weeks earlier. Sam finds the divorce papers alright but he also finds a dead body that may or may not be Mary Lou's and their young daughter Haley is missing. Sam, of course, becomes prime suspect #1. Meanwhile Alyssa is sent to detain Sam and bring him in for questioning. I'm still not clear exactly why this happened but hey it gets them together (finally) so who am I to complain? Sam and Alyssa go on a search for the missing (and possibly dead) Mary Lou and Haley and learn a whole lot about each other in between arguments and fighting off their undeniable attraction to one another. Brockmann, in flashback and dialogue, allows the reader an in-depth look into Sam's troubled past and explains away much of his bad and difficult to understand behavior in previous books. Alyssa, always a cold and steely-type comes across as more human in this book as well. And it's about darn time too! Before long I found myself, if not liking them wholeheartedly, at least rooting for them to work things out once and for all. Rounding out the story is a multitude of subplots (too many if you ask me) all competing for attention. There's Sam's childhood memories, the World War II flashback story between a white female pilot and the black man she falls in love with, there's Max and Gina's compelling, pain filled on-going love story, Team Sixteen's former leader Tom Paoletti is accused of aiding terrorists and his sweetheart of a wife is . . . well it goes on and on and it all gets to be a tad too much to keep track of after awhile. This book would've been a much "cleaner" read if the author hadn't crammed in so many various (but interesting) plot lines into one book. Though Sam and Alyssa aren't always easy people to like their story is compelling, passionate and filled with intense emotion. I can't say this about most of the books I've been reading this year and am very thankful to my reading friends for "forcing" me to read this one!
Rating: Summary: Not Bad but Not GREAT Review: Wasn't a bad book but not nearly as good as the "blurb" in her previous book would have led you to believe. Think Suz is just getting desperate trying to come up with more titles for this series. Make them worth the read or don't make them! (...)
Rating: Summary: All previous questions finally answered! Review: Gone Too Far by Suzanne Brockmann, is a blessed addition to this series. All questions from the previous installment of this series are answered. I was very pleased with that! Love this writer and enjoyed this series.
Rating: Summary: Romantic Times Review Review: All Lt. Sam Starrett needs is a signature on the dotted line and his disastrous marriage will be over. The problem is that his wife, Mary Lou, has not been in contact with him for three weeks-and she currently has custody of their daughter. Sam decides to drive to Sarasota to confront Mary Lou, but when he arrives, he discovers a badly decomposing female body and his daughter is nowhere. Nearing panic, Sam attempts to contact his FBI agent friend, only to get his nemesis, Alyssa Locke, on the phone. Things also look bad for Sam's SEAL Team 16. Lt. Commander Thomas Paoletti is being questioned about weapons used in the attempted assassination of the president six months ago. While it was SEAL Team 16 who saved the president, someone seems determined to implicate them, including Sam, in a conspiracy. Could these two seemingly unrelated matters be connected? Is Mary Lou the key to solving the conspiracy theory? With her newest book, GONE TOO FAR, bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann makes the leap into hardcover. Fans of SEAL Team 16 have been waiting a long time for Sam's story to play out-and it was definitely worth the wait. This is her best book to date! (Jul., 464 pp., $19.95)
Rating: Summary: The Name Is Perfect For This Novel !!! Review: I'm a fan of this writer and this series and have enjoyed all of the books. The action is fast and the plot had me eagerly turning the pages !!!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: Ms. Brockmann's series following the SEALS is incredible. I love the mix of love stories and find her books in general to have just the right mix of soul searching and action, not too much of either. Her characters are believable and lovable and I can't wait to read more of Max's story and, of course, Alisha's partner, too. These books are definitely worth the wait and worth the price.
