Rating: Summary: I highly recommend this book to all parents of preschoolers. Review: My soon-to-be two year old son Jackson has a prized collection of books, in which the pages of P.D. Eastman's Go,Dog Go! are worn, wrinkled, and stained with fruit juice. In places, they are even torn. This is a good thing. The first time we sat down together in the rocking chair to read it, at least a year ago now, Go, Dog Go! charmed child and mother alike from beginning to end. I knew then that this book, with its simplicity and original, appealing characters, would join the ranks of the constantly-read, which reside apart from the rest in his library. These select few sit next to the lamp on his nightstand; you cannot keep them on the bookshelf, so why bother to try? From the different sizes, colors, shapes and locations of the dogs, to the reappearing and increasingly complex matter of the hat, Go, Dog Go! delights Jackson each and every time. It is mandatory bedtime reading (according to him). It goes with us in the car to the sitter's house, the doctor's office, and on road trips. Like Dr. Seuss and Beatrix Potter, Eastman possesses the creative ability to stimulate, entrance, and comfort even the youngest of readers with colorful language, rhyme, and winsome animals all children can relate to. Go, Dog Go! is educational, medicinal, and functional dressed up as just plain fun, and that, perhaps, is its most worthy quality of all.
Rating: Summary: Really GOOD book!!!!! Review: Really good book! If your child gets the book make sure they read it!!!
Rating: Summary: My favorite children's book Review: My all time favorite children's book. Big Dog. Little Dog. My son's first word was "dog". I loved this book when my teens were little and my little one (currently 6 ½ months) will sit through most of this book (sometimes all) when I read it to her now. It is a great "first reader" as the words are common and the pictures offer help in that when one reads "One big dog going in." and "Two little dogs going out." the picture shows just that. There are red, yellow and green trees, dogs "over the water", dogs "under the house" and lots more word pictures that are fun to read and easy to learn by. The three dogs having a party on a boat at night is just about my favorite line but I still get the most fun when it is night and the dogs are supposed to be asleep and one little one is laying in bed with his eyes wide open. Simply put every child should have this book in their library and reading it to a child should start at a very young age. My highest possible recommendation.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Revelation on Interpersonal Relationships Review: Once in generation comes a book that can delight the youngest of readers yet captivate adults with its uncanny insights on human nature and companionship. P. D. Eastman's literary opus achieves this with his deceptively simple story about canines in transit.
Sure, kids love the zaniness and the joyous world of the big dog party. But Eastman's genius is his observations on human nature simmering beneath the surface of his story. His brilliance shows in the oft-repeated scene in which a male dog provides negative feedback on a female dog's choice of headwear. These scenes are nothing more than Eastman's take on pursuit, rejection and ultimate redemption (when the male dog finally approves of her hat), which form the very heart of human relationships. The penultimate "dog party" is Eastman's commentary on community and friendship, and the various colors of the dogs in the story (blue, red, green, etc.) reflect the moods that envelop us as we go about our lives.
A kid's story? Sure. But we adults can learn a lot about each other as we read this story to our little ones.
Rating: Summary: fun and educational Review: This is a great basic concepts book for young children. They can learn colors, positional words such as over/under, on/off, up/down, opposites and more. The older child will enjoy reading it themselves. It is packed full of basic sight words. Besides being educational, it is fun!
Rating: Summary: Household favorite Review: I LOVED this book as a child, especially the scene where the dogs are all sleeping. It was fun seeing all the different sleeping positions and laughing at them and I begged to have it read over and over again. It is no different with my little one and tonight, it went to bed with him. You know you've done a great job when a child takes the book to bed. There's no better point than that! This is such a darling book, full of surprises, dogs driving fast in sports cars to get to a party, and a girl trying to get a boy ("do you like my hat? No, I don't like that hat.") The surprise in the end with all the different color dogs in the tree having a party is a particular favorite as well. This one is a must for your library - it is just tons of fun!

Rating: Summary: Vocabulary For The Dogs Review: This was one of my favorites as a child. It became a favorite of my daughter's as well. Now my son is hooked on it.The book starts simply. "Dog" is the only word on the page. That sets up the theme. We quickly are taken through comparisons and colors. Black, white, red, blue, yellow, green, in, out, up, down, big, small, stop, go, over and under. Add some simple numbers and the book gains real substance. But then we have the two plots. First is the "Do you like my hat?" story that runs to the book's conclusion. The other is dogs on the go. They run around, go to sleep, wake up, drive away fast, and finally all congregate at the top of a tree. Great Eastman illustrations and fun vocabulary will entertain most children
Rating: Summary: Sure Sign of Quality Review: My father winces whenever the subject of Go, Dog. Go! is brought up. This book wasn't just my favorite, I was obsessed with it. So, of course, Dad read it to me...ABOUT FIFTY THOUSAND TIMES! I think the poor man still has Go, Dog. Go! dreams. For me, Eastman will always live in a place with Seuss and Sendak. Superior children's lit.
Rating: Summary: kids love it Review: This book is timeless. I loved it as a child and I love it as an adult. The pictures are great for kids. As an adult, I love the pictures as much as my son. The text is simple, but in a style that is enticing to young children, and allows kids to recite the story aloud after a few readings. And for the few adult critics who say the text is not sophisticated enough for them but their kids love it, - gimme a break - it's a CHILDREN' book for crying out loud.
