Rating: Summary: Better than Calgon Review: This is truly a memorable piece of historical fiction you wont soon forget-- not just for the wonderful adventure and love story, but because the prose is so rich. INTO THE WILDERNESS is beautifully crafted and a real joy to read. If you are looking for a novel to sink yourself into, look no further.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story with realistic characters and rich history Review: Everything about this work is terrific. The characters are both colorful and believable as products of their time. It was refreshing to find the heroine potrayed as an intelligent woman able to form her own decisions and fight for her beliefs against the "norms" of this period. The vivid descriptions of scenery and wildlife enabled me to feel like I was actually there. The story flowed smoothly and the plot was exciting and interesting. I couldn't wait to finish it and then was disapointed when it ended. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: I liked it immensely--very absorbing Review: It was interesting in a historical sense, with wonderful complex characters and a rip-roaring adventure story. I'd definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Totally engrossing...I adored this book! Review: I happened upon this book in the library, and I could not put it down when I began reading it. I am a teacher in upstate New York and can't wait to recommend it to my friends and colleagues who also teach New York State history. Admittedly, I enjoy a beautiful romance, but I also thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of the natural surroundings and the harsh realities of life during those times. Elizabeth was a wonderful, intelligent, and independent heroine. I cannot wait for the sequel and would also appreciate any information about it. I will also check out Gabaldon's book after reading the other reviews.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Can't wait for the Sequel Review: Sara Donati's book Into The Wilderness is one of the best books I have read in a long, long time. She has continued the story of Hawkeye, Cora (referred to posthumously) and Chingachook in a totally believable sequal to the movie Last of the Mohicans. The book puts the reader firmly into early frontier America teeming with fascinating characters. It is a wonderful story of love overcoming all obsticles. The main characters are Elizabeth, the daughter whose sheltered upbringing with relatives in England leaves her totally unprepared for life on the frontier and Nathaniel, widowed son of Cora and Hawkeye, who along with Hawkeye guards the secret of Wolf Mountain. This story contained all the ingrediants this reader looks for in a story. Adventure, intrigue, fascinating characters and a love story to sigh for. I agree with the reviewer from Champaign, Il., who wrote "Buy it and the soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans, curl up in front of a roaring fire, and let yourself be transported back to early America and the stirring romance of Nathaniel and Elizabeth."
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story rich in characters and details. Review: The story of Elizabeth and Nathanial...I enjoyed the book and cannot wait for the sequel. The characters are believable, the setting sounds just like its name, Paradise. Great job Sara!
Rating: Summary: Great yarn Review: I grew up on the Sacandaga River and this really took me back home. The love story was brilliant too.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and unexpected Review: I was expecting something from the romance genre, and got much more. Not a formulaic romance at all. Robert McLachlan was a particularly great character.
Rating: Summary: a great read Review: Liked the characters, especially Elizabeth. Strong women, interesting plot.
Rating: Summary: Blah Review: I was hoping Elizabeth would end up being a black bear's main entree, but no luck. Of course, with her amazing luck, she'd have brained him with one of her "boots" and eaten him for dinner. Oh, I forgot. Elizabeth is so ahead of her time, she's no doubt a vegan.
